Some people are just not cut out to be leaders and that’s fine. But don’t tell us coming into a season that we will count on this guy or these are the guys that the youngsters will look up to. If I’m Thornton, our point guard/our floor general, I take it upon myself to at least try and lead. If you are a point guard and you are not a leader, then the wrong players are being recruited.

I do think that Sensabaugh could be the problem. I think that he knows he definitely headed to the draft and his mindset is “I’m going to get mine”. Yes this is a poor attitude but I don’t see anyone else on the team who wants to step up and be the guy. I believe that the coaching staff thinks Sensabaugh is the best option for points and gives him the green light to shoot and shoot and shoot. Which would be fine if he was taking open shots off of set plays but it doesn’t look like we run any kind of structured offense. I think that Sensabaughs free-wheeling and lack of a offensive structure has ruffled the feathers of the rest of the team. Obviously this is my opinion but the culture of this team seems to have been disrupted. I don’t see the enthusiasm or comradery anymore. Line up and take your man one on one is not a game plan. Individualism in basketball is not a good thing! The program has a real problem here and it’s a damn shame.
End of game problems? Are you watching the games? This is a complete game problem. I have been a huge Holtmann fan, but someone is embarrassing the program and I’m thinking it is the coaching staff. I can’t tolerate embarrassing the program. The higher ups need to take action!
Keep an eye on next years incoming class. Can you go into the portal while you are still in high school???
Something is going on in the locker room! The bench players who are usually supportive of the players on the floor do not seem to have the same enthusiasm. The coaches have lost this team or there is a players rift. Something has sucked the confidence out of this team. I’m more likely to believe that the players do not trust the coaching staff and not a players rift or jealousy among players.
That is being kind. I would like to think that as well and I would of I saw any effort at all. I guess everybody except the basketball program looks at this game as a must win. All the headline say that the program is in desperate need of a wind, well don’t tell the program that.
The whole basketball program has developed Justin Ahrens-Itis! Wow, talk about uninspired play by uninspired players! I never thought I would say that and never thought I would see what I’m seeing from this Buckeye basketball programming.
Saw the headline on that. About to read about it. Maybe but I don’t think so with the egos these guys have. Sure everyone will say the right things and then behind closed doors, next man up!
. “As far as a player-led locker room, it’s our responsibility to make sure that guys are able to move on, able to continue to push and make sure that we’re continuing to get better so that when it comes down to those final possessions, we’ll see growth in the games to come.”
ok, good someone is taking responsibility. Ok Justice, you and Zed then are not doing your jobs leadership wise. What are you going to do about it and secondly, do you have the clout in the locker room to do anything about it??
Great coach, I just do not see him leaving Bama. He is in a premier conference and has built a winning program. Maybe the only thing to get him away would be a brinks truck.
Who are these possible coaches?
I believe that the players showed up for this game however “clutch” didn’t come along for the ride. The game was there to be won, but ultimately the desire didn’t take over. Unforced turnovers and the unwillingness to rebound hurt big time. Tell me if this sounds familiar, “long shots make for long rebounds”. And Please please please stop getting beat off the dribble. If you haven’t figured it out, it leads to lay ups, fouls and wide open 3 pointers.
End of game sets? That’s the entire games sets. Oh and throw in a 3 man weave here and there.
Not disagreeing. I would say he has the natural ability to score. If he could couple that with a high basketball IQ then he would be lethal.
I don’t disagree with you at all. At the same time, I’m not seeing anyone else on the team who wants to take that shot. Everyone knows Brice is going to take that shot. Brice just needs more poise in those situations. I know, it’s tough to ask that out a freshman, but it is what separates the men from the boys.
True this team has some bad shooting and many including me sometimes would say, the offensive sets or lack thereof doesn’t our shooters in the best situations to make shots. Rutgers ran sets which eventually broke the defense down to gain a wide open shot. The bucks run a high ball screen not looking to best a man off of the dribble until there is a hand off. After the hand off it’s one on one to score the ball. Rutgers hedged the screen and the ball handler has no where to go. After that the offense becomes confused and ad-libs.
Not giving the coaching staff a pass, but this game was on the players as well. Whoever is coaching defense is completely clueless! The defense gets best like a drum off the dribble. What killed the team today mostly was, poise, defense and not willing to rebound defensively.
Thank you for bringing him up. The first real name as a solution. However, he will be gone by the time we are looking for a new coach. Very interesting name to toss into the ring though!!
6th year guy Sueing had his ankles broke with a crossover dribble. I like Justice and the players on the team but they are passive. We need some players that have a lil dawg in them.
I don’t think that that is true, however, when a new coach is brought in the first few years are going to be not fun at all. Coach needs to bring in his guys and teach his culture. That takes time. What really sucks is, if Holtmann doesn’t have what it takes to make adjustments and dial up plays, then neither did the other coaches. I see Diebler running the huddle at the start and then Holtmann steps in to finish the huddle. I’m assuming Diebler is dialing up the plays to be run out of time outs. Maybe the players do not have faith in him. It’s a puzzling situation.
I hear ya BSK. I’m a Holtmann fan and I also can’t defend after that game. My big thing is not to embarrass the program and last night was embarrassing!! I also will never give up on the team. I will root for them to the end good or bad. That being said, this coaching staff needs to have serious talks about what the coaches are doing to make this team winners. I’m getting the sense that team is starting to tune out. I get that Brice is a one and done and he certainly is playing like it. I hope that I am wrong but I’m thinking Brice is now in the im going to get mine because it doesn’t matter what happens I’m gone at the end of the season. I don’t think that that is sitting well with other players. I also think that, this offense of, set a high ball screen, try and drive the lane, if that gets cut off, pass and then play one on one is not sitting well with the players. There seems to be a lack of direction, a lack of coaching. If you lose this team in this freshman class you run the risk of losing next years incoming class as well. You lose those two things and you may very well lose your job. Everyone in that program from coaches to players needs to take a good look at themselves and decide whether they are a program or just a bunch of individuals. Let’s Go Buckeyes!!
Only thing that will get Coach fired is if this years freshman bolt the program and next years class starts decommitting. What a shame what’s going on here!
I don’t think it mattered who played tonight. IT just wasn’t there. Coaching sucked, players sucked, refs sucked and so did the weather!
I was at the game. I constantly watch the bench and the looks on players faces would lead one to believe that they are tuned out.
