Ive said it in a few other threads but I dont think people understand how *talented* next years roster is going to be. This isnt a thread to talk about coaching and how Ryan Day doesnt know how to win a game. Just a level headed discussion about what the depth chart will look like.

Offense-2022 OSU had a top 5 offense in 2022 based on SP+. Will need to replace QB/OL but has ridiculous skill talent returning

  • QB- Kyle McCord/Devin Brown-Not much to say here but it should be a legit competition. Both are really talented and both are inexperienced. Of course the discussion starts and ends here, need one of these guys to pan out.
  • RB- Trey Henderson, Pryor/Hayden-Henderson had a tough year battling injuries and will look to have a JK Dobbins type of bounceback. Evan Pryor & Hayden will also fight for carries in what should be a ridiculously talented stable of backs. Miyan Williams could also elect to return.
  • WR-Harrison Jr/Ebuka/Flemming-The starting receivers all return. Harrison will be the player in the country. Ebuka will hopefully improve to be elite. Flemming had a really tough year, need him to take it to a new level. This will probably be the best receiving core in college next year.
  • TE-Royer/Scott-This position group is the most in the air. Stover could return but if not it will be on unproven players. Not much special here.
  • OT- Zen Michalski/Josh Fryar-Losing both Dawand and Paris hurts. Two unproven guys here and again depth is bad. Could use a transfer.
  • IOL Jackson/Wypler/Enokk Vemahi-Only lose RG Matt Jones who struggled this year. Would like to see this trio become a dominant group as Wypler/Jackson return.

Summary-The skill groups will just be ridiculous. Harrison, Henderson, and Emeka could all be first rounders should they take normal steps forward as juniors. Depth should also be much improved. Questions will be of course at QB which is an unknown and then replacing 3 OL with Studs recruits.

Defense-Knowles had a top 10 defense according to SP+. Front 7 played really well and this unit was great against the run. This group really struggled against the pass though.

  • DE- JTT/Jack Sawyer-JTT will be the top defensive player in the country next year. Hopefully he can have a Chase Young type of year. Sawyer really came on towards the end of the year finishing with 4.5 sacks. Another year of development could see him meeting his potential and being a 1st round level player. This could finally be the year of two dominant ends.
  • DT- Mike Hall/Tyliek Williams-The two young DTs showed a lot of talent and flashed this year while sharing snaps with older guys. Normal improvements for juniors could lead to this being the best DT duo LJ has had at OSU. Depth will require younger guys to step up. This could legit be the best DL LJ has had at OSU.
  • LB- Steele Chambers/CJ Hicks-Unclear if Eichenberg of Steele come back for a 5th year. Both had good years and neither went through senior day activities. I am guessing one comes back and thats Steele who has had 1 full year as a LB. Both were awesome this year and Steele could take a big step forward building on his experience. CJ Hicks steps up as one of the most hyped LB recruits in OSU history. This would be a freaky athletic and overall great duo.
  • CB-Denzel Burke/Jordan Hancock/JK Johnson-The worst unit on the defense loses Cam Brown but returns the next 3 guys on the depth chart. They took a step back and battled injuries constantly all year. Not going to be too positive here but these 3 are really talented players. This should be the focus of the offseason for Knowles.
  • S-Ransom/Stokes/Styles-They lose a lot with McCallister, Hickman, and Proctor moving on but none of those guys were anything special. Ransom was the best of the 4 and will hopefully come back for his senior year. Stokes and Styles are super athletic and hyped freshman. I think this is a better trio but definitely plenty of questions.

Summary-The front 7 should be NASTY. It was already really good and should improve slightly with how much they have back. The secondary loses some guys but nobody who will be hard to replace. Hopefully younger, more talented players are able to see the group improve.
