For Day to put Hart in the OC chair he has to have seen plenty to give confidence. It's not like he hasn't been deeply involved as receivers coach. Integrating a great passing game requires lots of coordination between qb and receivers, so he's been in the room and is probably well prepared for this step. I expect Day to continue to have a strong hand in game planning and play calling this year to give Hart a season to settle in, then we will see if he's "the man" going forward.
It is the evolution of college football that drives the passing game and any team that wants to rise to the top must have a high quality, potentially NFL caliber QB. Receivers have largely replaced running backs as the offensive weapons that win championships. UFM chose Ryan Day as his successor to draw top rated QBs and receivers and OSU has become a top destination for talent. Now we have to build a defense capable of slowing top teams and stopping the others. Trading touchdowns for field goals is a winning strategy in todays game against top teams.
We will soon have such a disparity over past generations of receivers that comparisons will be useless. Egbuka, Harrison, Olave, Wilson and JSN are the vanguard of a new generation of Buckeye receivers that will rewrite the record books, but will not diminish the accomplishments of our past great receivers. Since we've never really been a NFL QB producing school, I'm looking forward to that change and hoping we can win some Natties along the way. It will all depend on the defense.
On a lighter note, Hubbard was still taking O2 on the sideline after the game if the telecast was accurate. Wonder when the last time was when ran a 100 yd dash under duress? If ever...
It was a great, game changing play!
Knowles did EXACTLY what a quality coach would do at a new program. He poured time and energy into all the defense, but especially his starters, who have tho know the mostest, the fastest. Next This Soring practice, the experienced starters will be pouring info into those who didn't play as much so the D can truly be 2-3 deep at every position. Also, as everyone masters the necesaary reads and skills to play this complex D, athleticism will play more and more of a role. I expect Hicks to challenge Eich for the middle by mid season due to superior athleticism and near equal knowledge of the system. The reason it takes 2-3 years to implement Knowles D is the first students become the teachers and after 3 years there is sufficient players up to speed both in skill and knowledge. Hicks, Styles and others are the future of Buckeye football and it's gonna be a real treat to watch.
Your score prediction may be generous. Otoh, if the sleeping shooters wake up, anything can happen. It's a very young team and the grind of a B1G schedule is real.
Missed seeing him more last season. His prior year was awesome. Great quicks and tenacity. Hope he balls out in the Shrine and gets a shot in the League.
How many early twenty-something's put "people over places", especially in a field where career building is normally done on the road. Kee shows remarkable character and insight for his age. Of course it helps if staying home is at The OSU, but even then, still a bold move! I see the same in B Hartline. That's a good bunch of future Buckeye coaches in the making.
Gonna be interesting to see who takes the play calling reins. My hunch is Frye or Hart (if he has an aptitude for it), with Day having override power anytime he wants. Since the plays work together in 'concepts' and packages, it's not super hard to match the situation to an appropriate play. The genius is when and how to go against tendency and make it work. My guess is Day will be the main guy to switch it up with the OC/play caller making the scheduled calls. We shall see.....
Hope to see him coaching up his successors next year and see them getting decent play time. He is the key to this D.
CJ's legacy won't be written for 5 years. If he goes to the NFL and becomes the next Brady or Mahomes, all Buckeye fan bitching about his lack of running while here will disappear and he will officially be the "greatest Buckeye QB ever". Right now that honor goes to Joe Burrow, the Buckeye QB that almost was.
Sure, but that's apples and oranges. In truth, CJ did everything he could to go undefeated. He never played a subpar game and lost. The closest he came was Oregon his first year. Defense lost us all those games, Team wins/losses and individual stats never belong in the same conversation. That said, always better to win games than awards for an individual and the team, but that was exactly what CJ always said when asked as well.
Ohio against the world. And the world cheats.
Makes me wonder how many 'cruiting battles we've lost due to NIL... I don't like it and it needs to change, but until it does if we aren't a top 3 ATM for college football, we aren't a top recruiting power and not gonna win CFP's.
kinda like one party harvesting ballots and the other insisting on voting the "way it ought to be done". You lose even if you "win" the ethical and moral battle. And I'm not identifying a preference, just noting similarities in outcome and process.

Good to see the young bucks getting the early start. We finished strong vs GA, especially how they're stomping the frogs tonight, so let's keep it rolling and be ready to go come September.

He's been a dominant DT for years- very tough in a league where DE's get the glory- and most of the sacks. I'm surprised he's finished 12 seasons as strong as he has and would love to see him in the HoF.
His chance to play early is solid. Bet he’s glad he’s not a receiver! Takes a minute to get pt in that room.
I thot that as wel, but remembered the GA receiver who tripped and fell all by hisself in open field from a slight look back. That field must be a bit tacky or something.
Great winner attitude- excellent athleticism, hard worker, everything you want in a third string QB at tOSU. It may take him a couple years in the dojo to get built and coached up, but LK can definitely have a future here. I even like that he's gonna finish his senior year, play sports and graduate with his class; gonna pay his dues, do the work and do his best to prove himself "the guy" in due time. A very mature attitude for an 18 year old.
Chop will likely be the best NFL back of the current room and I'm glad he's returning because he's the only big, low COG back we have and he has good vision and bounce. Tre has raw speed and HR skills- if he gets even he's leavin'. Looking forward to a healthy Pryor with a year in the dojo and seeing what he brings and hopefully Hayden will get play time and continue to improve as a college back w a full toolbox. Why would we ever need 4+ quality backs to make a run for the natty? Lol!
There might be 7'4" reasons to shoot more 3's tonight. We shall see....
It's nice to look back now that it's done and realize that for every reasonable fan who knows to take the good with the bad, that footballs bounce funny and that it's a game of heart and momentum as much as recruiting and skill, there are fans who are dogmatic, unyielding, ignorant and cruel in their assessments of players and coaches. The interweb allows bullies to flourish, unfortunately.
Thanks for a nostalgic look at this greatest of American sports and a team that has operated at the highest levels of success for the last 75 years.

Sometimes it comes down to players making, or not making, plays. Buckeye secondary is weak against quality competition. We need to recruit corners that can man cover as we did when Coombs was dback coach. We had a couple epic fails on the back end last two games that should not occur at our level of football.
