I don't know how anyone can make a confident prediction until Ohio State and outside organizations determine how they intend to handle NIL/recruiting policy this year. I assume they do intend to make significant changes so that Ohio State has a reasonable shot at a top-3 class. Maybe that's a bad assumption.

The sequence of events:

Early spring 2019: Coach Day tells McCarthy they don't anticipate choosing their primary QB recruiting target before end of summer.

April: Day and staff decide they've seen enough and choose McCord, who commits that month.

May: McCarthy persuades himself that Day "lied" by deciding in spring, and he rage-commits to UM. By McCarthy's logic, it would have been better for Ohio State to string him along for another half year and to pretend not to know which QB they wanted before end of summer.

By modern athlete-douchebag standards, McCarthy isn't a particularly bad guy. Most players and fans like to invent "disrespect" fantasies to motivate and pump themselves up. But his "Ryan Day lied to me" story is idiotic.

I hope this happens because people need to learn that reality operates according to the law of unintended consequences.

I wish nothing good (in terms of the sport) for that team.

Read pre-game comments at MGOblog. Just thinking about a rematch sickens them. They believe a championship game loss to Ohio State is the worst imaginable CFP outcome.

I understand wanting Michigan to lose every game, but if you really want them to suffer, then you want to beat them on Jan. 9, and they have to beat TCU to make that possible.

Ohio State fans who want TCU to beat Michigan fail the Marshmallow Test.

How is Miracle Whip even remotely sweet?

High fructose corn syrup is the third listed ingredient. Unless you're Buddy the Elf, this stuff is sweet. (I love it, this is not a complaint.)

I spend 10x more time reading MGOblog game threads than 11w game threads because it's fun to watch their superfans melt down (minimum half the games every season, win or lose) and no fun at all to watch same happen here.

Ever hear of the book "Bowling Alone" by sociologist Robert Putnam? I think social isolation (e.g., watching games alone, then venting on forum to disembodied "community") is driving people insane. Seriously.

I've never begrudged a coworker leaving for a better opportunity, but this is a completely different beast.

What's the difference?

I mean, I'm against all compensation for college players, including scholarships, so I'm not a fan of the NIL wild west. But I do not get your complaint at all. Once you accept that players can pick schools based on compensation, what exactly is so evil about competing schools offering incentives to flip?

Pass interference calls and calls that should be made are often a joke. I'm currently watching Miami Dolphins DB's grab jersey and arms on the WR, but no call. It's bullshit.

Football could get rid of most pass interference if the league reviewed games afterwards and gave a 1-game suspension to any player who unambiguously grabbed a jersey, etc. I think FIFA at one point did something like that with flops/dives, reviewing games and then suspending anyone who pretended to get fouled.

NFL general manager: "I won't draft players who demand a signing bonus. Not one cent for tribute!"

NFL owner: "You're fired."

I just don't understand how Alabama has a better NIL than OHIO State, we are the 6 richest state and much better than Alabama!!!!!

College football matters a lot more to people in Alabama than to people in Ohio. Alabama boosters are willing to spend a higher percentage of their wealth on semi-pro football than Ohio State boosters. This arguably is strong evidence that Ohio State boosters have saner priorities than Alabama boosters, but it sucks purely from the pov of an OSU fan.

My HS football coach played with him at Penn State. When HS coach was a freshman linebacker, he was told to hold the tackling dummy for Harris. Franco slammed into it so hard that he broke HS coach's thumbs. (Apparently there's an inappropriate/dangerous way to hold a tackling dummy.)
