As bad as they have looked, the game is not out of hand, yet. But if LA puts together a drive and scores to begin the 3rd, it's over. Herbert is a great QB, and has played like it. Love seeing Joey doing his thing after missing 12 games this season.
Great in theory, but it's not like Hartline can give every offensive recruit the attention he gives when recruiting only WRs. The guy is already going to be drinking from a firehose in learning what it means to be an OC. I think he'll probably expand his recruiting reach to help on elite offensive recruits regardless of position, but I'd rather him focus on learning/developing into the OC role.
This had to happen. Do anything to keep Hartline for as long as we can. Clearly Day is going to be calling the plays. Nice situation for Hartline to be mentored by Day in this role, and I have no doubt (clearly the guy is driven, detail-oriented, and smart) he'll develop into a great playcaller eventually. The only drawback is the direct WR coaching, which I'd hope Hartline still has a hand in since he won't be calling plays. It would be ideal if he has the title OC/WR coach, and we hire someone else on the defensive side of the ball.
If snap counts are any indication, Kojo Antwi got the most out of freshman class. From the incoming class, sure I think Inniss will be hard to keep off the field once he arrives and gets acclimated, but I am highest on Noah Rogers. If he's got the mental make up, he's going to flashing sooner rather than later, like in the spring game and garbage time of some early blowouts.
Happy for him. But road games in South Bend, Madison, and AA, we need someone to step the hell up or pull a rabbit out of a hat from the portal.
These dudes are impressive on the field, but I'm always just as impressed about the culture of our WR room. Clearly Hartline can recruit and develop, but to have an entire room full of dudes who have always been the best of the best with praise coming from all directions and get them to buy-in, to be humble, to be professional, to be patient and believe in delayed gratification, is absolutely incredible.
This is actually a longstanding question in the pre-hospital treatment of cardiac arrest—is it better to 'scoop and run,' or 'stay and play'? There is no real standard of care across Emergency Medical Service systems, but the thought has always been to get them to definitive care (i.e. the emergency department) as soon as possible. And while that is undoubtedly the best in some cases of cardiac arrest (e.g. penetrating wounds, pregnancy), other types, such as what was likely in this case (commotio cordis leading to ventricular fibrillation which is a shockable rhythm) are gaining more evidence in favor of treating on scene initially. Clearly this is important b/c the most important outcome in cardiac arrest other than death, is neurologic, b/c brain cells start to die after 5min w/o oxygen. So if someone can get high quality CPR and potentially shocked more quickly on scene, that could be the difference between complete recovery back to one's baseline, versus surviving but in a vegetative state.
It's exceedingly rare, but definitely a possibility given the mechanism. Didn't see the hit but heard it was upper chest, and commotio cordis is when blunt force trauma to the chest directly over the anterior portion of the heart at exactly the right time in the cardiac cycle causes an abnormal rhythm, and subsequent cardiac arrest.

Do you remember that Clemson game? The playcalling was generally excellent, but it was poor execution that led to those FGs (Dobbins dropping the wide open screen pass that likely would have been a TD, Fields slightly overthrowing Dobbins also wide open in the end zone). Are you aware of how good our red zone TD percentage is? And can someone explain what 'lay down play calling' is?

We play and root for sports b/c it's fun. If you're so emotionally immature/labile that you believe you're 'traumatized' from the result of a football game, you need to get out more and/or grow up.
I personally wouldn't 'invest' in anything that doesn't have a direct, tangible (e.g. financial) return. But if it makes you feel better, have at it, it's your money.

My interpretation for critics of CJ and the team—it's your right to criticize, but qualify it by knowing you're merely a fan (myself included) watching others bust their asses. Say whatever you want, but you're posting on a message board while these guys are deep in preparation for the game of their lives.
Not suggesting anything, just hoping if you ever ate at Iacono's on Kenny Rd sometime in the 90s that, like any restaurant, you never considered how young and dumb anyone in the kitchen was.

I think it's been reported widely enough how it was likely a GI bug from a delivery pizza that only MJ ate, with some speculating that b/c they were in Utah it was intentional. Having worked at a few pizza parlors, I'd say it's just as likely someone didn't wash their hands or undercooked the meat.
