The award has become a QB heavy award given to the guy with the best film highlights, with some stats and team ranking sprinkled into the consideration. Also, because Ohio State has the best WR group in college football, it gives the opposition a counter argument that MHJ benefits from the system he plays in. I disagree with it, but unfortunately this is what the award has become.

He’s probably a PhD candidate at this point :)
As some have already pointed out, coaches are probably predicting that when the starting QB is announced QB2 is transferring. This provides additional depth in the event QB1 gets injured.
Didn’t Chambers get an interception in the Peach Bowl and a TD interception against Maryland to end the game? I think we have to keep in mind that Chambers is a converted RB who had the physical athleticism and size to play LB. He is learning how to be a college level LB and is doing a pretty good job of it. Next year he’ll be very good.
The front 7 didn’t just “statistically improve”, it was obvious to the untrained eyes that the run defense and TE coverage were way better this year. Georgia kills teams will their TEs and three headed rushing attack. Ohio State shut that down in the Peach Bowl. The main focus for the defense in the off-season has to be DB development. If the defense can improve on the defensive backfield, then next year should be a really good one.
Dude used 7 years of eligibility, he has nothing left.
We saw with Georgia what a 7 year QB who will likely never play in the NFL is capable of doing. Not only will he have a PhD, but two national championships.
Knowles was handed a crap sandwich of a defense and had little to do with the 2022 recruits. He wasn’t the defense coordinator in 2021 loss to Michigan and the defense in the game this year held Michigan until the middle of the second quarter. It was the offensive, specifically the play calling, that played a huge role in the loss too. The data shows the defense was improved significantly from 2021, yes it was that bad.
Looking back at the Michigan, not sure we can claim having a TE who “can catch anything thrown at them”. Also, once MHJ was out of the Peach Bowl it was a game changer. Ohio State has the best collection of WRs in college football, what’s the point in having that if we are more focused on the QB’s scrambling abilities than passing abilities? The QB needs to be mobile, with an occasional run, but arm accuracy with these WRs is more important.
The level II accusations don’t sound that egregious. It’s odd that Jimmy wouldn’t talk with investigators, knowing that it’s a more serious violation than what they wanted to interview him about. I suspect there is more behind the curtain that hasn’t been discovered yet.
Taking well timed and uncontested 3 pointers tends helps with efficiency. Increasing shots can have a negative effect if it is forced under unfavorable conditions.
Breath… all these players know each other and conversations happen that result in players transferring. Coaches are tracking ahead of time who is interested and this is worked out before anything is officially announced. DB is the one area where things couldn’t get much worse. In the two biggest games of the year, players tripped and fell resulting in 70+ yard TDs.
Tell your friend that he can’t be any worse…
I’m sure there are offline conversations that happen between the coaches and established players on other teams who are looking for opportunities with a better program. They already know the numbers of the incoming players and who needs to leave to make room.
I suspect we’ll see some DBs leaving after being “encouraged” to seek opportunities elsewhere. Clearing the way for players who are a better fit for Knowles’ system. Or, players who don’t slip and fall every time a ball is thrown their way beyond 20 yards.
Knowles inherited 95% of the personnel who were part of the broken defensive last year or were recruited by the previous defensive coaches. Also, how did the defense perform the entire season, not just two games against the #1 & #2 ranked teams. Georgia and Michigan’s TEs and RBs were held in check. The front 7 performed significantly better, the issues were with the DBs. The long runs against Michigan were the result of Knowles having to compensate to help the DBs after getting burned 3x.
Can we stop with the “It’s Knowles” fault. Dude was handed a crap sandwich and it wasn’t going to get fixed in year one. Do you not remember how bad the defense was last year?
If football, college and NFL, leaders are claiming to put rules in place for “player safety”, then overturning an immediate call on the field, without clear and convincing evidence, when player is clearly injured, isn’t “complaining” and it should be questioned. Comparing it to a player getting burned on a TD or even a questionable holding/PI call is not the same. The hit and overturned call literally influence almost the entire second half and allowed Georgia to adjust the coverage scheme giving them an on field advantage.
I take it you missed the defense last year… Because that’s what Knowles was handed. It was never going to be an immediate fix.
I will never understand seeing what I witnessed in live action and then several times how the booth overturned that call. The officials immediately threw the flag, looked like the head/shoulder area, the guys own teammates were telling him that he shouldn’t have done that, and MHJ is out on the ground.
Also, the significant impacts it had on the game. A first and goal negated and MHJ medically benched gave Georgia the life it needed on defense.

I can see both value and negativity with a board review. I don’t think officials on the field should worry about making, or not making, a call because days later a board, that has the benefit of watching the play countless times in slow motion without the in game pressure, is going to say how they endangered a player’s life. The replay booth is a different story, the booth doesn’t have the same conditions as the guys on the field. I think a board would add value, especially overturning a call on the field. Even if it was in favor of the player injured.
I think there’s a huge difference between complaining about a holding call or a PI and what happened with the MHJ call. The replay overturned a penalty on what appears to be an illegal hit. MHJ being removed from the field under concussion symptoms should have been a clue that the hit was in the area of the head. That hit and overturning a call on the field without clear and convincing evidence had multiple negative impacts on the game. First, it negated a first down and Ohio State had to kicked a FG. Second, when MHJ was medically benched it opened the field for the Georgia defense because double and triple team focus on MHJ was gone. The passing numbers significantly dropped when he was out of the game. It was a real game changer.
True, but those plays were the result of having to overcompensate in order to help the DBs. If the DBs were capable of defending man coverage, that doesn’t happen. Nitpicking two plays that were obvious anomalies because the DBs can’t do their job, doesn’t change the fact that the overall stats show a significant marked improvement with the front 7.
I'm not sure why Ryan Day's offense is being praised
Probably because the offense scored 41 points on the best defense in college football. It is more than quadruple what Georgia normally gives up. Unfortunately the hit on MHJR changed the game by freeing up the double and triple team coverage that was being used to cover him.
