Colts owner would be wise to draft CJ because they're so close to Columbus. Instantly gain some support from Buckeye fans in the Midwest (and nationwide). I know some Buckeye fans that would drive to Indy to root for CJ in person.

I just don't get these dudes trying to make Will Levis happen. Maybe I'll be proven wrong. CJ has some room to grow but he's shown he can grow in those areas.

I have a feeling Day wants his QBs to run his offense and not freelance too much. Though, I think maybe Day learned a lesson there with the L he took against TTUN and watch Caleb Williams take the Heisman. Need to allow your QBs to be the alpha dog that makes plays.

However, IF CJ is the 3rd QB taken, I hope a team like the Saints or Seattle trade up to get him so he doesn't have to suffer in aimless Carolina.

I saw that. University email accounts are used to access every system for grading and internal communication like Moodle, Blackboard, D2L.

There’s going to be a lot more to this than this guy hacking in to someone’s email.  They raided his house.

So, it's a hacking crime.  What did exact university system he hack and why?

(1) Did he hack the system to change grades? Seem most plausible. Timeline fits (end of term grades would be due before Xmas).

(2) Also potential... he hacked the system to stalk a COED. We've seen plenty of coaches and coed stories over the years (Arkansas, Auburn come to mind).

(3) Longer shot... he hacked the system to get some dirt on the admin he could use as leverage. Football team and admin at UM have had a contentious relationship, especially during COVID.

Respect.

I hope that they find a role for him as a GA or staff role (Hartline needs a new WR assistant) like Ryan Stamper used to have in player development. Or maybe Mick finds a role for him in S&C.  That is... IF Babb wants to stay around the sport and at OSU.  He may just want a fresh/clean start altogether.

Godspeed and thank you!

Comment 17 Jan 2023

The problem with that is that McAlister is a cover safety/slot safety.  We really need the adjuster (Hickman) to be the guy who cleans everything up.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

If they can’t stop our second and third team, well, I consider that the other team’s problem.  This is major college football.

In a way, I feel hamstringing the backups is more disrespectful to the other team.  They won’t get better by being able to stop a predictable  dive play. They need to learn and develop too. Failure is part of development.

Also, I’ve always felt more insulted as an athlete if someone takes it easy on me. I’d rather give 100% and get my butt kicked so I develop resolve and awareness of my true ability. I want to compete, even if I lose badly. I would think any D-1 athlete worth their salt feels the same way.

Here’s what I think is hard for me and other Buckeye fans.  We aren’t expecting that every year we have Lattimore and Ward back there.

We expect (1) to have superior athletes than almost everyone we play (2) we expect a disciplined defense (know your job, do your job.

There is no reason in the world why Iowa or Northwestern or Cincinnati should have superior DB play year in and year out to OSU.  They take two and three star guys and coach them up and coach while understanding their limitations.  I’m still waiting to see us do that.  Tressel’s teams did that consistently. Cooper’s teams did, too.  Urban’s teams had some of the best corners to play here, but at times the lack of coaching and disciple burned us (2013 & 2018).

Outside of 2019… all of Day’s defensive team DBs  have looked undisciplined and confused. Are we mid-identifying talent? It’s not like we are recruiting guys who are anything but high 4 star players at corner.
I don’t know what it takes to fix this, or if there is some weird correlation where having a fantastic offense somehow makes your defense inferior.  It is, however, a real trend.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

I think he means Day not letting the back ups run the full offense in garbage time when we’re already up big.  He doesn’t want to look like he’s piling on Rutgers or Toledo and whoever.

I think the respect is actually when we pull our starters. Why double down and hamstring the backups. we get very vanilla on offense even after the 2nd and 3rd team are in. That hurts development.

In other words, Let Kyle Throw!

Martinez is a talented athlete. I think you’re right in that he’s an offense guy who needed 2-3 full years to learn how to play slot corner/safety.  I’d like to see him succeed here but your analysis so far I think is accurate.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

The corners were very bad. I know they had injuries. But it was really bad.  Knowles should have kept it simple for them given the amount of youth and injuries combined. I think he tried to make them do too much/have too much man to man responsibilities when they didn’t have the time or possibly the ability to play that way.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

I think we all wanted to have a little hope. But if you read some of the comments here and elsewhere… some were definitely mad about how he waited this long to declare.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

That’s the good counter argument.  We have to be able to accept the growing pains.  Martinez had some PT time this year. He just blew that play entirely.  Of course, we also saw Hickman and Ransom do similar hints by years end.  These safeties were too confused or not playing their best positions. That’s on the coaches IMO.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

A good point! I think the contexts were different. The D had no identity or consistency the year before. Rotation added to that confusion.  This year they had an identity and fixed roles… there needed to be some more rotation, esp. at LB. We’ve got to get guys ready. Yep, there’s a balance to be found somewhere in there.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

Big AMEN to this.  If the guys aren’t schematically or athletically ready to keep explosive plays to 20 yards and not 50+ yards TDs… then DON’T put them in the position to fail like that.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

Some parts of Twitter are worse.

I think it’s fun to imagine he could stay. I get it.  I tried that with DH and JF… and I’m  it falling for it a third time. Lol

Comment 16 Jan 2023

There’s people in these threads comparing this to LeBron and the decision.  People here criticizing him for waiting.  Not everyone.

Its fine to speculate “will he stay or will he go” I just don’t get the anger and entitlement some here and elsewhere feel about his waiting to make it public.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

I really can’t believe that people are offended by CJ Stroud (checks notes)… doing exactly what the past two 1st round OSU QBs have done and been the last player to declare for the NFL draft.

His waiting literally has zero effect on the team or school. And NO effect on our daily lives as fans. They already know anyway.  I think everyone is just bored. And when people get bored they manufacture drama.

Don’t remember any anger about DH or JF waiting.  It’s CJ’s life. Let him live it.

To me it’s leadership. Let others go first. Leader eat last, so to speak.

I would love for him to stay.  He’s the best pure passing, NFL style QB Ive ever seen at OSU.  I doubt he will. He’s going to be at worst the 3rd QB taken (this is assuming some NFL GM talks himself into Will Levi’s being Josh Allen).

Stay or go… That’s My Quarterback.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

If Ransom is back they need to finally play him in the position he played in HS and was the top player at that position coming out… deep free safety… or as I like to call it the Hooker/Fuller position. The Eraser. Stop trying to make him cover slot WRs.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

I think Haskins established the new tradition of the OSU QB being last to declare… gives the spotlight to everyone else to get their announcements out first.

Reminds me of how Ted Ginn Sr. Used to have his players (silently committed to OSU) wait to announce so that colleges would keep coming and look at his other players.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

True & a key let of development.

And we’ve also heard every player say that there’s nothing like love game reps, even against Toledo.
