So sick of hearing this. The Big Ten is trash and its teams have consistently under-performed in the tournament for years, and the conference is especially down this year with a bunch of bad teams, a few that are just "okay' and then Purdue. You can't just say the Big Ten is "deep" when OSU is losing to Minnesota and Nebraska who are objectively awful teams.

OSU also lost to every decent team they played out of conference, and "decent" is an overstatement because SDSU, Duke and UNC are no longer in the top 25. That "big" win over Texas Tech is now a win over a 10-8 team that has lost 6 straight.

Larsen gets another year just because the Blue Jackets have been decimated by injuries this year. I'm kinda up in the air about him and his system. The defense the last two years has been awful and they have had games this year where it looked like they just gave up early in the game. Reeks of a possible culture problem developing. But, they have a lot of good prospects in the pipeline (especially on the blue line), so I think Larsen gets a pass for this year but if they are not significantly improved next year with all the talent on this roster then he will be in danger.

Holtmann on the other hand should be gone this year after 6 years of nothing, but he will also get at least one more season because I don't think Gene Smith will admit he screwed up by giving him that extension. It's not an issue of OSU not being able to pay the buyout, but an issue of ego. This, and there also seems to be a "this is fine" attitude from the athletic department about the men's basketball program being mediocre.

So in short I expect both to be back for another season, but I think Larsen is more likely to be gone first if the Jackets don't start off the season better next year.

I wasn't comparing the dominance of the teams, just the situation and feeling in general. And bringing up 2015 is funny because they were not a great team at all during the regular season. They had the opposite problem from this year in that the offense was abysmal until they finally lost to Sparty because of it. They finally showed how dominant they were after that but it was too late.

This was a really weak year across college football. Georgia, even in spite of tonight was nowhere near as dominant as last year. Despite the lousy defense, OSU was ahead for 90% of a semifinal with the winner getting a layup National Championship. Looking back at who they would have faced, I think 1998 and 2015 (the "post-Sparty-loss" version of OSU) would have had similar layups to win the title.

I would laugh that Michigan lost to this TCU team, but then I remember OSU found a way to lose by 22 at home to the same Michigan team. This season is definitely on par with 2015, 1998, and others as far as what should have been guaranteed natty's in hindsight.

I believe you're thinking of Eriksen for Denmark, but yes he was able to recover. Just makes my stomach drop anytime I see CPR having to be administered. Never think about the fragility of life until you see something like that.

It's head-scratching to me too. I have no idea why you would adopt a defensive philosophy that inherently gives up huge plays every game. And it is especially confusing to me because these "few explosive plays" have been completely demoralizing and instantly changed the complexion of the last two games when they happened. It's the same type of philosophy that Don Brown used at Michigan and they would look good against crappy teams and then get shredded by OSU every year... huh, sounds familiar.

Year 3 of "the defense will be better next year".

Last 3 bowl games: 52 points, 45 points, 42 points given up. 42 and 45 to Michigan. This is a major problem that isn't improving from year to year. Kudos to Georgia, though. Down 14 for the whole game and just didn't care. True championship stuff right there.

Really nothing more that Stroud could have done tonight. Sucks that one of the teams has to lose these types of games.

Looks like he got it to me, but could be hard for the replay booth to overturn hopefully

That play design was just beautiful, and a great time to finally go play action from under center.

That two-minute drill was just divine. Hopefully Knowles has some adjustments during halftime.

Imagine being up 2 with 2 seconds left, the other team has to go length of the court to score... and you instead just say "hey, why don't you draw up a half court play instead? No seriously, we'll just let you have it at half court for free." Awful decision.

Horrible coaching decisions after the under 4 timeout led to this. Looked completely lost the first time UNC pressed and he allowed it to happen two more times. Then letting Carolina just get the ball to half court for free to set up a play to tie. Not to mention OSU's offense went full ISO-ball during the last few minutes for no reason.

Outplayed them the whole game and then shit their pants in the last few minutes.
