It definitely makes it more difficult, the waters are muddied, they're murkier, the roads are going to be much more tricky to navigate, but here we are... I have full confidence that the Ohio State staff will get this put together, and not just do it in the sense that Miami (FL), Florida, and Texas A&M have attempted to do so, they'll actually integrate it with the program and make it work for them as opposed to just tossing a bunch of money in a bag and giving it to a kid.

Regulation has to be coming, one way or another, either the NCAA sorts it out or the coaches and players will start policing themselves. Eventually the coaches trying to do all this stuff in a under-handed way are going to get found out and put on blast.

Development shouldn't be an issue. Talent absolutely shouldn't be an issue.

Whether it's McCord or Brown, assuming that the coaching staff has done enough in development with the OL and there's not a massive fall off from the guys they're going to lose to the draft this year, they should have the table set to be successful.

I feel like the argument you made for Harrison applies to JSN only in a slightly different way. While Harrison has the measurables and will likely test very well at the combine, he really doesn't have the film to back up where he will very likely get picked. Size and speed wise he's a home run, but he never took over a game 1 time, and highly drafted pass rushers normally have at least 1 game like that in their career where the film leaps off the page and justifies the draft pick.

With JSN, he has NOTHING BUT a reel of film that is insane catch after insane catch then a bunch of catches that would be routine when thrown to anyone else (except maybe Harrison Jr.) but he turns into monumental gains. JSN has soooooo much footage like that, but the injury is for sure a concern.

To me, both arguments for both players are the same... but... different...

So for me it breaks down like this:

1. Stroud: Lock to be in the top ten, I might be as comfortable to say a lock within the top 5 and obviously a VERY strong chance to be a top 3 pick. CJ's ticket is punched

2. JSN: I mean c'mon, the tape is there, the talent can't be denied. Keep in mind, had JSN been healthy this year he would've been the reason that MHJr is the WR2 instead of the breakout player of the year. Only question for me is the hamstring injury... and that's kind of two fold, one it's just the nature of soft-tissue injuries in general... We've seen it before, a player can come on and become a star and never ever have any significant injury history, they "tweak" a hamstring one time and then all of a sudden they have chronic hamstring problems. The other part of that is no one really knows how bad the injury ever was at any point because of the nature of how coach Day handles that type of thing, so it could just be water under the bridge and he may never have another hamstring problem again. Still... JSN is a first round pick, I think for me personally the ? on the hamstring front pushes him in that 15-20 range, but it wouldn't shock me to see a GM look at his film and make him the #1 WR off the board inside the top 10.

3. PJJ: Love me some PJJ, love him solidly in the first round, really feel comfortable with him as one of the first 3 OL off the board, likely in that post 15/pre 31 spot, likely somewhere in the 20's I think. His versatility is going to make him too good to pass up after pick 20.

4. Harrison: Personally I do feel like production matters, but I'm also not a NFL scout... and I had no idea Sam Hubbard would be as good as he is, so if Harrison went to the NFL and produced at a high level it's not like it would be some massive paradigm shift, there's precedence for it. Personally I don't like him earlier than the 3rd round, but his measurables are outstanding and my guess is he'll put on a show at the combine and be a pretty safe bet to get taken in the 2nd round.

5. Dawand Jones: While he'll be a bit of a project in the NFL, you can't deny the size and athleticism of Dawand Jones. Lock for the second round for me, some GM/scouting department is going to see how huge he is and what he can do physically and fall in love with him. Again, another likely candidate to make a huge splash at the combine.

6. Luke Wypler: Just a solid ass football player, Wypler was rock solid at Ohio State, I took no issue with his play, I feel like I can't even recall a jacked up snap in his time in Columbus. Position hampers him a touch, I like Wypler solidly in the 3rd round.

7. Hickman: UDFA for me... Just never saw consistently high enough level play in every game to make him draftable, but I think as a UDFA he could make a roster. Safety is also VERY deep this year.

8. Cam Brown: UDFA at best for me.

9. Taron Vincent: Tough one here. While TV never quite hit his true potential at Ohio State and never did become that game destroying DT that he was projected to be, he did quietly put together some good film and showed the capacity to be a fairly solid rotational piece for a NFL DL. Also doesn't hurt that he has a NFL legacy with his dad. I think he gets looks at some point after the 5th round, feel pretty confident he'll get drafted late.

10. Tanner McCallister: Not sure if I'm off my rocker here but I like McCallister as early as the 4th round... Hell if it's a team with a loaded roster that can afford to take a flyer late in the 3rd, I don't hate it. I knew NOTHING about this kid before he showed up at Ohio State (I don't make a habit of watching much Big 12 football), but I was fairly sure that Jim Knowles bringing one of the guys that was featured in his previous top 5 defense couldn't be a bad thing. McCallister showed great ball skills, he's a sound tackler, I mean... I like his tools, like the skillset. I think a fourth round pick here is a steal for a safety you can put into the rotation and develop slowly and maybe have a Jordan Fuller type of rise.

Very eager to see these new QBs. IMO MHJr shouldn't even play in the spring game. A. he doesn't need too and B. whichever QB has MHJr is at a MAAAAASSSSSSSSIVE advantage, dude would catch any ball thrown anywhere on the field. Take him out so one QB isn't handicapped over the other and let's have a good ole fashioned QB battle.

I mean to be fair, it was already happening behind the scenes. This just puts it out on the forefront, and the haves in college football are likely always going to be the haves and the have nots are always going to be the have nots.

Schools that perform at an elite level AND have the money to deal with and navigate NIL are going to do so and it will be status quo, teams that just have the money to navigate NIL and do so are going to be the flash in the pan style teams, and the teams that never compete and never recruit at an elite level aren't.

Here’s one thing I love to hate about 11w… someone in the forums starts a thread about firing Holtman and everyone down votes them into oblivion. But if a 11wer staffer writes about how bad of a coach he is and calls for his job everyone in the comments is all like “yes!” “Here here!” Pretty funny.

Everyone do yourselves a favor, stop paying attention to the basketball team and give your time and ticket money and merch money to coach Tom Ryan and the wrestling Buckeyes. Your investment will be rewarded in a much more complete manner.

I can see the graphics now:

I've been a pretty strong supporter of NIL just based off the fact that I think anyone in the USA has a right to earn a living if they're so capable, no matter the circumstances, but yeah, this thing is so far wild wild west that it's going to be hard to reel it back in.

Now when a kid releases a "top 5 schools" or "top 12 schools" or whatever, it's not "I like these schools because of the program and this and that" it's "I'm going to give these schools a chance to pay top dollar for my services in their program."

Still feels very weird to me.

I don't honestly believe that transitioning to Hartline as the play caller is going to magically unlock some cheat code and all of a sudden all the ills that have haunted the Buckeyes are going to go away and they're going to steam roll their way to a national championship next year... However, I do think that, along with major work on defense will be a step in the right direction.

I think it's most likely that this year Hartline calls the plays with oversight from Day as I'm sure coach Day will need to build up his trust in Hartline in that capacity since he's never done it before... But hey, guess what, prior to coming to Ohio State Hartline had never been a WR coach.. and he's pretty much re-written the book on that job....

That's a bit far fetched when you think about the NFL having 32 teams (16 games at most any given week of the regular season) and that the NCAA/FBS has 131 different schools competing in football... It would be easy for the NFL to roll out a broadcasting package with a few more networks for all of them to air a 1 o'clock and a 4 o'clock game and do a primetime game Sunday night and Monday night, and hell they're already doing Thursday night football... the NFL could easily put all of their games on TV and I bet networks would pay major dollars for it even if it did net them the Jaguars vs. the Panthers.

My first problem with the question posed isn't to do with the question, but with the NFL... I think the NFL itself has almost devalued "in-division" rivalries with how their TV works. Basically with the way they handle locality and all that, they essentially try and tell you who to root for.

The difference being that while Ohio State has had games I have been in Pensacola, Florida, Myrtle Beach, Kansas City, and Denver and never once have I missed a game. They are on TV EVERY WEEK.

The NFL has the whole locality deal and they tell you who you get to watch by virtue of your geographical location, so to someone who lives in Ohio and only gets to watch the Browns or Bengals, the rivalry between the Chiefs and Raiders or whoever, out in the west has no real value.

I don't think the NFL itself puts much stock into inter-divisional rivals.

I just read this story on ESPN... What a mess.

I don't know if this is an occasion that calls for more oversight from the NCAA or if this is one of those cases where you want to tell a coach and the athletic department not to write checks with their mouths that they can't cash with their backsides...

What a mess.
