Embarrassing. I’ve been cautious on the anti-Holtmann talk but it might be time to move on. With the upcoming schedule this could get really, really ugly

I’ve seen enough. Time for the NCAA to drop the hammer, I think a 3 year bowl ban should send the right message
Wow, the “probably” speaks volumes here. This kind of passionless, callous attitude translates onto the field 100%. Bring on Mccord/Brown next year, will be nice to see some fire from the QB position again
I'm a guy who's typically inclined to agree with this sentiment Olentangy, but I'm not sure this is what is at play here. There are alot of different forces in the television/media industry at play that may be forcing Disney's hand here. And the emerging leviathan of sports gambling is something ESPN definitely wants to capitalize on, Disney may find it imperative to bifurcate this section of their company to protect their traditional 'family friendly' image.
For all of their faults, the game threads are a beautiful madness. It is raw human emotion expressed in the most direct ways. Nerves, frustration, despair and elation all coalescing and rotating with every play. There is something enticing to watch this all transpire in real time. It is also therapeutic in a sense to know there are so many others feeling the same emotions as you are, watching what amounts to a television program.
Love them or hate them, the game threads are one of the top things that make 11W unique.
Very powerful post OP, beautifully written. Accurately represents alot of my thoughts. It is really sad what is happening to college sports, definitely hard to get as emotionally invested as I was before. I've always been adamantly against NIL, I think the previous system (imperfect though it may have been) was far preferable to what we have now.
The advent of the transfer portal and NIL are turning College Football into an even worse version of the NFL. In the NFL atleast there are formalized contracts, now you can just up and leave whenever you want without any consequence. Incoming recruits making 100x more than seniors is and will continue to rip apart locker room culture, any mention of 'brotherhood' will continue to become increasingly meaningless.
Sports gambling too is another negative development. How long before there are scandals with players throwing games? You can police players/referees placing bets, but what about friends of players? Distant cousins of referees? Impossible. And sooner or later this is going to effect an outcome, its inevitable.
My policy recently and going forward will be to just take all of the positive and none of the negatives. Celebrate wins, become indifferent to losses. Can't get too invested in any individual recruits/players either, one visit down south and they could be gone to 'greener' pastures for a nice pay day.
Completely agreed. As a huge NIL skeptic myself I'm hoping situations like this lead people to be more cautious going forward. This may be the first major example to prove that buying a #1 recruiting class is not without its risks and pitfalls.
2018>2022 any day. The difference between 62-39 and 45-23 is massive. No other game matters, I would happily take an 8-4 team who thumps Michigan over a pretender 11-1 team that gets depantsed 28-3 when it counts.
Wow. Just saw.
Kudos to Josh for being ready to step up. As much as I love Dawand, I think we might want to consider keeping him on a short leash. From what I saw on Saturday, the right side of the line was busting open huge holes, with Fryar frequently getting to the second level. Dawand may be more of an NFL type pass blocker, while Fryar is a college ground game specialist. Just a thought.
Pain.
Baron had an incredible sack off the edge against Michigan State 2019, I remember being thrilled, thinking they had finally found what he did best. Never saw it much the rest of the season.
Count me in, that would be cool to play them every other year. We owe the trojans a beatdown, or two.
Fascinating case, here is my take for whatever its worth: This guy goes to Jerry's apartment in April, is deceived somehow by the way Jerry dressed, the lighting in the apartment and a combination of other factors to not realize he was a dude. He comes back and brags about the experience to his buddies, who eventually connect the dots that the place Isi described was actually the home of a well known gay man in the Blacksburg area. Word gets around to the football team, and Isi is mocked ruthlessly for this. In a fit of rage, he heads back over there to see for himself, and when his suspicions are confirmed he lost it. As far as charges go, I'm far from a legal expert but it seems walking away scot-free is far too lenient. I do have alot of sympathy for Isi, I couldn't imagine what must have been going through his mind and the internal torment he must have faced. But the act of coming back a month later and revenge killing a guy cannot go unpunished in a civilized society
I think alot of the boomer hate is misguided. People seem to blame them for presiding over a period of cultural and economic decline, but what were they supposed to do about it? It was the politicians and people in power that brought us here, the boomers were just as powerless then as we are now to make any change to the system. Also, as a member of Gen Z here, i think the boomers as a whole compare quite favorably to the heap of radioactive waste that my generation seems to be becoming...
Jake Diebler’s meteoric rise continues.
Side note: Who was that commenter who wanted him as head coach really bad? And anytime someone would ask him to elaborate he’d simply come back with “What’s your problem with Jake?”
One of the funniest things I’d seen on this site, not even being critical of Diebler, it was just a really funny bit
They are literally professional actors, this is what they do. Their goal was to make it look real and they did, you and many others have bought it hook line and sinker.
So undoubtedly staged, the Oscar's have been hemorrhaging ratings and cultural significance for years, this is just what they needed to get back in the spotlight. This will be one of the most viral moments of the year, and I'm sure many more will watch next year now just to 'see what happens next.' Will Smith winning best actor later and giving a follow up speech is just too coincidental, stuff like this doesn't just happen without the organizers having some form of advance knowledge.
Damn it.
i think McMahon is the guy. Developed Ja Morant, has won his conference regular season and conference tourney titles three times since 2018. Has Murray State at 30-2 right now, 18-0 in conference. They are one of the most dangerous teams in the country right now, with about 1/10th of the resources as Ohio State. I think Holtmann has one more year with the incoming class and then we back up the truck McMahon.
Its time to get Brunky. First few offensive possessions should be Brunk post ups, set the tone early.
Moving to St. Johns is the only answer. With St. Johns, we have an intimidating home environment, a place no one wants to play. With the Schott we have a morgue masquerading as a basketball arena. The Schott can still be used for concerts, volleyball, wrestling etc. But St. Johns is a basketball cathedral, and should be utilized as such.
Good start but not quite punitive enough in my opinion. I think an athletic department wide death penalty would almost suffice.
Hahahaha, glad you picked up on the sarcasm. Cheers Knar
