Colleges for rookie of the year candidates are Ohio State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Cincinnati and UTSA. So much for SEC meaning more.

The 64 points given up by the 73 team includes the 42-21 Rose Bowl win over USC. That leaves 43 points total for the regular season. We also had 3 of the top 6 Heisman finalists - John Hicks #2, Archie #5 and Randy Gradishar #6.
My first Ohio State game was Minnesota in 1973. We won 56-7 and the Minnesota quarterback was Tony Dungy (yes, that Tony Dungy). I was listening to the 1989 game on the radio while helping paint my wife's old house (we got married earlier that year and were getting ready to sell it). She wanted to turn off the radio since I was so pissed off listening but I kept in on. One of the very few times I'm glad I didn't listen to her.
First time we went the game was 27-17 in 1996 and have gone most years since. Defense bailed us out late in that one. We usually stay in Nashville, drive over early and stay late to tailgate and let the crowds go down. This is actually their most expensive game of the year and you can only buy 12 tickets LOL. I think individuals can purchase up to 24 for the rest of their home games.
I was a Junior and a few of us tried to go to the Woody Hayes show after the 75 TTUN game. It was too crowded to get in by the time we got to the studio so I never saw the clip until now. After driving around for a while we decided to drive by Woody's house since the neighborhood kids would toilet paper his house after a Xichigan win. We pulled up just as Woody was getting out of his car on the way back from the show. We got out, talked with him for a couple of minutes on his front porch and shook his hand. That was the only time I ever met Woody in person.
Comments on Feinbaum's show ought to be interesting today.
I saw his last three seasons live. He had the best balance of anyone I have ever seen, especially after contact. Same height as JK and with current training methods would have probably played at a similar weight. I think you have to compare against peers but adjust for modern training/conditioning.
My mistake, 25 years. The percentages are slightly higher.
I agree that he was vastly underrated as a head coach. 26 years head coach YSU and OSU with 9 championship game appearances and 5 titles. Over one of every three years playing for the championship and almost 20% championships. Other than Woody, Bear and Saban (much as I hate to admit it) I don't think anyone else comes close in the modern era. I love Urban and Day but if we still had the BCS our only appearance in the title game would have been last year's loss.
Archie actually won in 73 and 74. If I remember correctly back then the Silver Football was awarded to one of the team MVPs, and Archie voted for Cornelius Greene in 1975. He would have been the only three time winner.
I always want to count Earle's victory over Texas A&M, but I guess it just didn't mean more when they were in the old Southwest Conference. It does seem like A&M is a perennial contender for most overrated SEC team.
Actually, I think Lincoln Riley would have played us this weekend. As it stands they have no chance of making the CFP, but if they would beat us and win the Big XII they would have an outside shot. Kind of the same reasoning as BYU and Coastal Carolina. Jimbo has an outside shot now and why screw that up with a probable loss against OSU.
The closest I ever came to seeing a hole in one live was over 30 years ago with a friend of mine who had never played golf before. We were at Rollandia in Kettering, a super short course that had lights for night golf. On the first hole he hacked around and got around a 7 or 8. The next hole was only about 90 yards. He bladed his shot and it never got more than 10 feet off the ground as it rolled about 2 inches to the side and stopped less that a foot away. He tapped in for the birdie. We played 9 holes and I don't think he had less than 5 or 6 on any of the rest. I told him if that would have gone in he should have just walked off the course and quit then since it would all be down hill for the rest of his playing days..
I was coming back from a Florida vacation with a good friend from work who went to Illinois. We heard the 24-0 score and he gave me a lot of shit. We heard 24-21 at the half, but back in the day before national sports radio couldn't get another score the rest of the drive. I got back home in Kettering a little before midnight and watched the WOSU replay (on channel 16 in Dayton). The replays were great back when only one or two games a year were televised.
I think both Tressel and Meyer are great, but I disagree that Urban is better in every measureable way. If the BCS were still around we were never in the top 2 at the end of the season and Urban would have never been in a championship game at Ohio State. When you combine Ohio State with Youngstown State Jim Tressel's teams played in 9 title games, winning 5. That's a title game appearance less than every third year.
