Here's a link to a good Maize n' Brew article explaining the known facts and what Michigan law is on unauthorized computer access: https://www.maizenbrew.com/football/2023/1/18/23560337/matt-weiss-police-investigation-michigan-wolveirnes-university-police-department-computer-access

Seems unlikely he would use a University computer to commit internet crimes since he could do so from home with more anonymity. The house search is curious but could be because they want to show he has items  on his home computer that were illegally obtained from the illegal access to the university computers. What that might be is anyone's guess.

If OSU starts getting players based on $$$$ NIL money  I am done. It will be another version of NFL free agency but without any structure. Sure, the players have a right to get what they can - but without my participation as a fan.

TBH the Mazi Smith gun issue is a non-issue. Here is an article explaining what happened: https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2022/12/08/michigan-football-mazi-smith-pleads-guilty-lesser-weapons-charge/69710411007/

I carry a loaded pistol in my car every day. Smith had taken a CPL class, the gun wasn't loaded and simply had not been locked in the case. Where I live what Smith did was not even a crime or a civil infraction. Nothing burger.

Obviously the players need to agree, but I can see collectives facilitating the process through a mutually agreed process of some type.

The fans won’t even know who they are rooting for in time.

Just like what has happened in MLB, NFL and NBA - players in, players out. (Sitting in a rocking chair with my grandchild on my knee). Used to be a time when a player generally played out their career with one team. You knew who they were, they lived in the community. There was cohesiveness within the team and with the community. Now with free agency you never know from one year to the next who the team is. No continuity, no loyalty, no cohesiveness. One is rooting for a logo, not for the team. I grew up with the 68 Tigers being my team - I can still recite the starting lineup.

Right now the NCAA has player free agency. IMO just a matter of time before we see "trades" being arranged by the collectives. "Hey, I've got a TE with a 25k per year NIL who is looking to move up in the depth chart and you just lost your starter. You have a DB we are interested in for 100k NIL. How about we get together and see if we can make this work?

The college game is being destroyed. Great for the players. Not so much for the fans.

Notre Dame’s NCAA Infractions, 1999

The majority of Notre Dame’s NCAA violations involved a South Bend bookkeeper, Kimberly Dunbar, who used an estimated $1.4 million she embezzled from her employer from 1991 to 1998 to create a lavish lifestyle for herself, including access to Notre Dame players. Dunbar became romantically involved with several football players and had a child with one of them. The players received benefits such as jewelry and trips.

GULOGULO'99-'01 and BuckeyeRealist13 - I'm giving you all the upvotes I can to counter the undeserved DVs. I'm as big an OSU fan as anyone (born on campus in 1957). I will always want TTUN to win if it means getting a chance to play them again. Anyone who disagrees can go jump in a lake (Mirror Lake).
