Ohio State Captain Kamryn Babb Won't Use Final Year of Eligibility: "I Am Excited to Start the Next Chapter That God Has For Me"

Kamryn Babb's Ohio State career has come to an end.

The Buckeye captain and Block O jersey recipient announced in a video on social media Tuesday that he is "excited to start the next chapter that God has for me." Babb, who finished his fifth season at Ohio State in 2022, still had another year of eligibility remaining.

Babb’s stepmother, Amanda, confirmed to Eleven Warriors that Babb will be stepping away from playing football.

A four-star, top-100 prospect in the 2018 class, Babb suffered several ACL tears that sidelined him for the entirety of the 2018, 2019 and 2021 seasons at Ohio State. Despite dealing with another injury in his fifth year, Babb overcame it all to catch his first career pass in Ohio State's Nov. 12 win over Indiana.

It went for a touchdown, and the inspiring moment was one of the highlights of the season for Ohio State.

After the game, Ryan Day called it “one of the great accomplishments” during his tenure at Ohio State.

“What happened today in this stadium was magical. That’s what college football means to a lot of people. Not everybody, but to a lot of people," Day said. "That’s one of the reasons why college football is special. It’s one of the reasons why you coach – to see something like that happen. Hopefully there’s somebody else out there that’s going through tough times that can see that as a motivation to overcome."

Often cited as a leader and source of motivation for the Buckeyes, multiple teammates sent messages of encouragement to Babb on social media following his announcement Tuesday.
