I wouldn’t say all three are must haves, but if all did sign it would be huge to set up the 2024 and 2025 recruiting seasons! I’m glad to see that true bigs are finally on the staffs radar. Let’s start pairing some size with our guards and wings. A nice balance of Athleticism and size would make me feel better!! I’m not familiar with Travis perry, TJ Power and Elmarko Jackson. The only recruits Holtmann lands are guys coming off major injuries, which counts all of these guys out. I swear Holtmann spends all his time recruiting out of hospitals or major rehab centers.

I really like Royal. I watched him play vs my Elks in the state finals this year and he's a beast. I think he would be a nice piece to the puzzle on the court. I hope he chooses the good guys.
I have to think he is staying home. Family could see the majority of his games in person. But you never know, a guy spends the first part of his years in one place and may want to go out and see what else is out there. But I still think Ohio State offers him his own family and his second family, not to mention the coaching to get him to the next level. Tough bonds to break for another coach. Then there is money. What kind of deal can another school offer. I think if OSU misses out on Royal it will have to do with a NIL deal. And if they would be the case, then I think the program would be better off without players who make their final decision based on NIL. Royal seems like a solid guy though and I think he would pick a program based on culture and the bond he had with the coaching staff.
Is Royal a Kyle young type player, Athlete but raw? with not much polished game like 3 pt shooting or mid range game? But physical and active? More or less a project? His Hilite reel shows him attacking the rim but at 6' 7" he is not going to be dominant in the Big Ten as an inside player only.
Give me Middleton & Booker then fill with whatever needs/players that want to be Buckeyes. Middleton has OSU in his Final 3.
Royal has been inconsistent on the summer circuit. His team is 0-3 at the Peach Jam this week although his stats are better than already committed, Washington. Royal would be 3rd or 4th player if they go with 4 players in the Class. Of course, if M& B decide to go elsewhere, then Royal becomes the 'get'.
Royal is doing his numbers with an underwhelming cast around him. This is one of the poorest showing for All-Ohio Red Team period. He's inconsistent, but keeps rising up every recruiting board ranking!? Ok. He's a must get for OSU.

Things are obviously fluid year to year in college basketball, but how in hell could osu follow up a 5 man 2022 class with a 5-6 man 2023 class? They still have Zed Key, Eugene Brown, Tanner Holden, and Kalen Etzler due to return and Holtmann would likely want to add a transfer or two depending on potential transfers out of the program?
I would be shocked if there were more than 4 players in the 2023 class. And 2 of the spots are locked up between Washington and Parks. I think we are looking at 1-2 more added out of the group of Middleton, Royal, Booker, Swain, etc.
Did we get an exemption where we can use 15 scholarships? Obviously things are fluid, but there are 13 spots:
1- Zed Key
2- Eugene Brown
3- Tanner Holden
4- Kalen Etzler
5- Bowen Hardman
6- Bruce Thornton
7- Roddy Gayle
8- Brice Sensabaugh
9- Felix Okpara
10- Austin Parks
11- GW3
Right now that leaves two spots. Obviously with the portal, there is a high likelihood they lose 1-2 players off that list. But with only 4 upperclassmen lined up for 2023-24, my guess is they would like to add an experienced transfer or two. We have always had 1-3 transfers added each season under Holtmann.
OSU needs to string together three or 4 strong recruiting cycles.
There is plenty of potential in the names listed above, and now OSU needs to close the deal on a strong class for the next 2-3 cycles and roll on from there.

I don't think Swain is in the discussion at this point, we already have a 6' 3" 2guard committed I think some 3/4/5 type wing players are the objects of the recruiting effort now.
