not the first time a guy named george washington decommitted from a team that wore red, folks
When I walked in this morning and saw the flag was at half mast I thought, "Alright, another bureaucrat ate it." but then I saw it was Li'l Sebastian. Half mast is too high. Show some damn respect.
Because theoretically they could add somebody to replace Towns' scholarship right away that would have multiple years of eligibility, but I've been told they'll likely hold the scholarship for next year's class instead.
Too late to transfer in to play this year. Deadline was 7/1. Doubt there is anyone good in portal today. They would have found a home by now. Maybe 2nd semester enrollee is possibility.
Correct on the Towns scholly take. I guess I’m not totally surprised- GW3 to me has taken a serious drop in the rankings and maybe he was just not turning out to what Holtmann wanted. On the All Ohio EYBL team it just seemed GW3 numbers wasn’t that impressive…..
im not a huge conspiracy theorist, but I’ve heard that George was a huge osu and nd football fan and he committed just so he could get excellent seats to this epic showdown…the timing is just too convenient
joking aside - good luck young man. Was hoping to see you play in the scarlet and grey. You were key in helping to recruit Scottie and Devin to osu and we thank you!
Because it was rumored that his dad would follow him to wherever he gets drafted. But that’s been put to bed by the extension that he just signed with the Lakers.
There is no greater moment in The Game’s history than giving the full one-finger salute to 107,601 Michigan fans at the same time.
The extension is a 1 year deal with a player option for the second, so he can opt out before the 24/25 season, potentially Bronny’s first. So no it’s still very much on the table.
Things are starting to make some sense now. Not a great look? Don’t agree with that at all - especially if we get Chatman.
Ill take Chatman over GW3 every day of the week, and look Bronny is a solid player who would make every OSU game nationally relevant. Regardless of how Anyone feel about his dad, or hypothetical locker room issues anyone would think he could bring, I want Bronny and Chatman at OSU
If we don't.....You fill that combo guard need in the transfer portal. You still have 2 Top 50ish national recruits (Middleton, Royal) and Austin Parks (Top 150 center) in the 2023 class. It's not a big deal.
I'd rather have Chatman. But I think it is pretty clear that more and more people see GW3 as an undersized shooting guard, comparable to Duane Washington. Now that isn't a bad thing, but they really could use somebody that could play along side Thornton but could also be his back up at PG next season.
Surprising since there were pictures of him at the game Saturday but maybe that visit just solidified his decision. If Chatman is a real possibility it would definitely be an upgrade. Explains why Holtman has still been recruiting when he was seemingly set.
Did coach give GW the (subtle) cold shoulder because he got a certain impression from other recruits at the game, or was this simply because tOSU was continuing to recruit over him? I guess we'll see if anything comes from these two recruits.
I don't think the cold shoulder scenario applies here. GWIII I think is better than his 247 composit or whatever, recruiting services are so elohim damn arbitrary and fickle. Hell there has already been like 4 different number 1 recruits for the 2023 class. I think they are pushing for Chatman quite hard, maybe the parting was mutual and I do think GWIII will do well wherever he lands.
This sure feels like something must be happening with the other recruits at the position. From a ranking perspective, both Chatman and James would be an upgrade over GW3. Either way, that was a classy note and he’s entitled to follow his path wherever it leads
Really difficult to accept, what's OSU, a safety program until someone better comes a knocking for these kids. Classy note, it's the same format and wording all players give, an excuse, it was me, not you, game.
That would speak ill of the University and program if that's the case and considering the project this team took the last cycle, hard to believe. I suppose if we did run him off that indicates that the program is really on an up cycle.
If they can land Chatman or Bronny, it’ll be an upgrade. It really sucks losing Washington, though, I thought he could have been the next sharpshooter at OSU.
I love Buckeye football through and through. I don’t really care about the basketball side as I’ve been an UNC fan since the days of Jordan, Worthy, Perkins, etc.
The Buckeyes are 1b. On who I care about. This would be great to get both shooting guards to finish and I know possibly find a diamond in the rough somewhere. Another big would be great.
I respect Towns decision to step away. Had major game, and smart asf. But the timing in this decision, just feels off. Keep him on scholarship no matter what. He obviously went to an Ivy League school, and is an grad. Student. Why put the Buckeyes in a bad position, so they can’t get anybody else? I know the portal is bare.
Lebron is not my favorite player, but he is a man, let him and his family blaze their own path. I know Buckeye basketball as well. Jim Jackson, Penn, and Redd, where the shit. Nobody is perfect The whole university is on the rise right now. Let things play out.
instead of Freeman making the wrong choice maybe Lebron thinks he made some wrong choices. Not going to college, burning Cleveland twice, although bring a Championship
I get that, I explained who I’ve liked since I was old enough to remember. I also was excited when The Buckeyes we’re in the Tournament with Michael Redd and Scoonie Penn, that was one of the best backcourts ever. Just because The Buckeyes are not my favorite basketball team, and the football team is shouldn’t send me into oblivion with the dv’s. I want Holtmann to succeed, because he is a good coach. Maybe it was too long of a post or I wrote it wrong. It would do wonders if Bronny decided to attend OSU. Bring back Birm to Eleven Warriors btw
Yeah I didn't DV you either. Only cause I didn't get a chance. You denegrate the Bucks and spout negativity on an article on.a Buckeye siite. Good luck with expecting any love on that. Read the room bro
I don’t have an exact number but GW3 was somewhere in the low 40’s when he committed and now he’s down to #106?? You just don’t get dropped like that by these guys unless what they are seeing warrants it that obviously is a pretty significant drop.... I will also add that as Towns scholly has nothing to do with next year there was rumors that OSU was going to add a 5th guy - now the only real option to that is that if that were to happen one of the commits could not sign early...(say Parks if he is 100% coming) and the staff believes someone will transfer(or get pushed) out....
I don't think anyone is realistically expect Bronny to be as good as arguably a top 2 basketball player of all time.... In truth he's a really solid 3 and D combo guard with upside and would be an upgrade over Washington. Not to mention it would get some juice into the OSU program and give us an inside track on his brother who has a bigger frame than Bronny and could end up being a big time recruit.
The only people who would think Bronny will have dad's game know nothing about Bronny or dad. LBJ is a once-in-a-generation player and you hear about those guys for years in advance. Bronny is a very good high school player who may make a very good college player.
We will know pretty quickly what happened. If he starts talking about 2nd or 3rd tier schools then we will know he was squeezed out. My guess is he looks at Schools like Marquette and NC State, ect that are all fine basketball schools but not upper half of big ten quality. He was thought to be a top 50 type player but now is out of the top 100.
I think there were some questions about his ceiling outside of being a solid D1 prospect but he recently played great at Nike's Peach Jam, which should solidify his status as a prospect ranked around 50th in his class. I'd think he could be a multi-year starter in college. Is he a true one and done who can play with Lebron in the NBA in a couple years? My guess would be no to that based off of a few factors.
Yea. And it is very common for schools to do some “coincidental” decisions to help land guys that they really want. In this case, it would be the attention that Ohio State would get just for having him.
There is no greater moment in The Game’s history than giving the full one-finger salute to 107,601 Michigan fans at the same time.
He's always been surrounded by talent and has complemented that talent by having a solid all-around game. Athletic, nice jumper, unselfish. Has played in more high profile games as a high schooler than many college guys will in their whole career.
I'm seeing some "Eh, we can do better and probably will" comments. We'll know soon enough, once we see where Washington ends up committing and who we wind up with to take his place.

There is nothing wrong with coaches and players having hard conversations. As a coach you have to put a competitive team together to keep your job and I would say with Coach Holtmann that he also would want what is best for the player. If Coach Holtmann recognizes that one of his incoming guys may have a better chance at succeeding in another program, I don’t think that he is afraid to tell a player that. It’s better to have that conversation now then as a player lose a year of eligibility. Good luck GW3 go find success!!

Not sure how Towns news changed the available schloarships for next year. His last year either way right?

He was at the game Saturday night, but so were Taison Chatman and Bronny James, who are also both combo guards. Putting 2 and 2 together...
Yeah, that's the only that makes sense. Bummed that Washington de-committed but trust that something else is in the works..
So here me out now…
im not a huge conspiracy theorist, but I’ve heard that George was a huge osu and nd football fan and he committed just so he could get excellent seats to this epic showdown…the timing is just too convenient

Someone paid better. It would be nice to have Bronny for a year. It would be nice if the Cavs had a draft pick lol
The Cavs do still have their ‘24 pick.
They’ll have their 2nd round pick which is where Bronny would go if it wasn’t for his namesake

Yes for 23 but Bronny won’t be eligible till the 24 draft

One of the top 24’ hoops recruits is named Isaiah Elohim, national top 10 type, from Sierra Canyon, Cali.

Holtman has proven that he can consistently land HS talent well within GW’s overall talent/ranking range…..just sayin…

Probably a good move by both sides. Washington really struggled against top competition this summer in AAU. Only concern I have is that Chatman is more of a pure shooting guard and they really need ball-handlers, where Washington is better as a combo guard. Bronny would actually fit in very well as he's a good play-maker all around.

Yeah perhaps I'm not giving him enough credit. My point was more that I see Bronny and Washington as potential primary ball-handlers (I actually think they should both be listed as PG) and Chatman more of a secondary ball-handler. I do see that ESPN lists Chatman as a PG, which is interesting.
Yeah, I kinda feel the opposite.
247 Sports is usually the most reliable when it comes to position listings. Chatman is listed as a combo guard, GW3 as a shooting guard.
I think that is a big reason why there has been a considerable slide in the rankings by GW3. I think it became apparent to many scouts that GW3 was much more of a pure shooting guard than a combo guard. And with his size that didn't help his recruiting rating at all.
From a recruiting perspective, getting a guy like Chatman or Bronny or a transfer that could play along side Thornton but also provide about 10 mins a game at PG would be high priority. Not sure if the coaching staff thought GW3 could fill that role, at least not in Year 1.
I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.
Not sure what to make of this.
It’s pretty obvious
Not hard to figure out. Could see he was being over recruited and decided to move on. Good choice for both parties.
What happened, did he not get to meet lebron?
He is a MAC caliber player right now unless he wants to sit a couple years and add beef
So. . . George Washington told a lie?
