That ticky-tack slap of the Wisconsin coach was wrong, but it was also an anomaly. His long time as a player also attests to how well he was regarded around the league.

I don't have much respect for Howard. He was completely out of line in how he acted towards both Turgeon and Gard (and, no, I don't hold either of those guys blameless, but Howard's actions/reactions FAR exceeded the provocations). His apologies in both cases were either nonexistent or insincere (and he was barely punished). It is encouraging immaturity and unhealthy behavior in his players. I don't know how much credit to give Howard for the coaching of his program since I think Martelli is crucial in that department, but I will say that I find a lot lacking in him in terms of what kind of example and character he brings as the foremost leader to his team.

Credit to scUM, they've managed to play well in the Dance recently. You could argue they should have been left out of the Tournament entirely last season, but they weren't, got a gift of a first game match-up, and then played probably the best game of their season in the R32.
Anything can happen in a one-and-out Tournament with match-ups and luck playing a huge role since parity in the sport is so high. Which is why one of the most important goals for any high major program is just to make the Dance consistently.
Gotta go with the best play available and Chatman was the best play available. True CG prospect with elite talent who has been moving towards 5-star range. GWIII is an undersized SG who likely can't play the point and from all accounts did not have a very strong summer. Not saying he won't become a solid piece for TTUN but Chatman has star potential.
Both players would be right in feeling someone else was wanted more than they were. Starting next year we'll find out which coach was right, was it day? Was it H.? One thing is for sure no matter how mccord turns out his recruitment was worthwhile if for nothing else but his teammate. Will one be able to say the same thing about gw's brother? We'll see.

It is what it is. OSU felt like they needed to recruit Chatman, and couldn't sell GW3 on staying in the class (because he knows Thornton and Chatman are going to get almost all the lead guard minutes while the both of them are here).
I think GW3 will be a good player for scUM and I wish he had gone somewhere else, but I can't be mad that we went after Chatman.

Washington to me appears to be in line as the next Eli Brooks for UM. I don’t view this as a loss for OSU (it was their choice), but also expect him to do well at UM in what is a highly structured offense designed to create wide open looks for shooters.
It's a weird situation because GW3 would still be in this class if we hadn't pursued Chatman. He wanted to play some PG and would have been our other option for that besides Thornton. I think he saw the writing on the wall for his envisioned role when he visited the same time Chatman did.
I agree with you, GW3 will probably do well at scUM. I think he'd do well at a lot of places. But I also can't at this moment say that I regret us going after Chatman.
Only one George Washington I know and I guarantee that guy would not have flipped and started fighting for England. So he's a better man than this dude.
Well, if coach Howard wants him, that's good enough for me. From what I've read over on Michigan boards, he is a shooter, period. He will never be a wing, nor an off guard. But having a good shooter is a role Michigan needed to fill.
I think he is more of an off-guard than you realize.
He has good potential as a shooter, but he can be a bit streaky from outside. I think he has a lot of all-around offensive skill, though, and moves well with the ball.
The issue at OSU was that he thought he would be in line for some minutes at PG, as that is where he hopes to play professionally some day. And I would say that some of his playmaking does depend on him having the ball in his hands a good bit. At one point it seemed he would definitely be a PG option for us after Bruce Thornton, but after some evaluations we started pushing harder for Taison Chatman and I think that kind of pushed GW3 away.
I think he will play for you guys and be a good one as a CG/SG, though maybe it will take some time for him to find consistency. He didn't really look like much of a PG for All-Ohio Red this summer but I think he can suffice as one of the back-up options there for however long Dug McDaniel is your starter.
He's a shooter, a scorer, what does that even mean? His forte isn't shooting that's for certain. If he's there 2 years I'll respect his stick to it ive ness.
We may never hear from this kid again. His game is decline and its evident. He got exposed at Peach Jam and lost the confidence of coaching staff and other OSU recruits. Good luck to him though...

Howard is a good coach and he knows talent. Is Howard a nice man no, but he knows how to coach and win NCAA tournament games unlike Holtmann.
