This was a disgusting loss,if you add up the 0 runs OSU didn't score for nearly half of the game. Justice isn't even trying and Thornton seems lost at times,Ice can't score. Please give the bench guys a shot they can not be any worse.

This team is amazing. They lose close games to good teams (NC, Purdue) and bad teams (Minnesota, Nebraska) and they are super creative in finding new ways to lose these games. Just painful to watch and have become hard to root far. At least Zed was trying, some of the others - not so much.
I'd be surprised if he was fired before the end of next season unless they lose the rest of their games and the players make like Gerald Eaker and start shooting at each other.

Anyone who watched the mic'ed up game against Minnesota could clearly see Holtmann is a terrible coach. Never drew up a single play, he kept repeating the same vanilla instructions ad nauseum and his team doesn't even listen to most the s#!+ he says.
I really wasn’t buying into the fire Chris Holtmann talk until he was wired against Minnesota and was clearly out coached by Minnesota’s coach. Now after this 5 game losing streak and how lifeless the team looked tonight I’m ready to get a new coach in here. Preferably somebody with insane amounts of energy and fire to get this program playing tough again.
I was at the game tonight, and got a chuckle out of that guy's demeanor! We called him "The Librarian". Let's just say he certainly made some of our players "check out".
Smith needs to terminate Holtmann now. Cut your losses and put in Diebler as interim head coach. Buckeyes have nothing to lose at this point you still have to pay Holtmann his five years left on his contract (three year extension was a three million dollar epic failure by Gene Smith) but Holtmann gets less money this season after this termination. Buckeyes are the worst team in this conference.
I'm convinced our ceiling with Holtmann is 5th in the BIG, and making it to the tourney but not the Sweet 16. This team is looking more like our basement.
If we're happy with this mediocrity at best, let's keep Holtmann for a few more years.
The Buckeys are really good at keeping the game close. It doesn't matter if the opponent is #1 Purdue or winless Minnesota. There is nothing wrong with that if you win against the bad teams and at least most of the close games against the good ones. Lately, they have all turned into losses. I would even chalk it up to bad luck, but the track record goes back years. I never like calling for someone's job. Many teams would love to have a coach like Holt to get them into the NCAA's each year. The real problem is the Buckeyes can't close during crunchtime, since it is pretty much every year, so it has to be in game coaching.
How do we fix this? Initial thought is fire Holtmann, but the problem may be as simple as hiring an X's and O's guy as an assistant (like Schyer was at Duke). This would solve the end of game problems, and free up Holtmann to do the things he does well.

End of game problems? Are you watching the games? This is a complete game problem. I have been a huge Holtmann fan, but someone is embarrassing the program and I’m thinking it is the coaching staff. I can’t tolerate embarrassing the program. The higher ups need to take action!
I wouldn't be surprised if we see close games become a thing of the past. Other teams will continue to improve while we keep regressing. I could see many lopsided games in our near future.
I agree that Holtmann is not a good tactician at all; he is a decent recruiter, big man limitations aside, and that's a huge miss. Who scores when Sensabaugh leaves? Defense, what defense? Holtmann is the head coach, the buck stops with him on all fronts.
The only thing I wanna see in regards to this program is a red banner at the top of 11W announcing Holtmann’s termination and Sueing’s retirement from turning over the basketball.
Randy Ayers did not have the players to make a competitive team at the end of his era. Holtmann has the players and has managed to transform this into an uncompetitive team. You could find a better team at the North Rec Center than Nebraska. Utterly appalling loss. . . Still back the Bucks but this is a free-fall with no end in sight.
But yes, this was an awful loss. I was at the game in a good seat. It's so different with respect to what one can see on TV.
We gave up inside cuts so easily, and the help defense just wasn't there. The problem plaguing us concerning leaving wide-open three point shooters, continues. And for whatever reason, in this game, we were missing layups. LAYUPS!
Key played decently, but seems less involved in the offense in the sense that the game doesn't flow through him. (It should) Suing's body language indicates that he is not confident. For me, it seems like our best offense is to isolate Sens, and let him do his thing.
Good thing Nebraska fans are so nice, and the venue is fantastic. I don't think there is a terrible seat in the house. (Plus tickets are dirt cheap)
I am not saying his era would last long but he needs to take over for Holtmann at least until the end of the year. I keep checking on here to see when Holtmann will be let go but still nothing.
I have been easier than many on Holtmann. I like him. He's a nice guy. However, I think it's time. This team is so hard to watch. I can't subject myself to it any more.
I'm extremely happy with my decision to stop watching this team before these last 4 loses. Thank goodness I spared my eyes from the prison sex style of a skid this team is on (and will most likely continue on for a while barring a miracle).

Was I the only one who had to do the double take when I saw Sueing dribbling down the court and nearly getting called for a double dribble before finding McNeil? Hell I honestly didn’t even think they’d get a shot off. Just awful end of game “flow”.

Disagree. I was there, and McNeil had a wiiiiiide open shot. He just couldn't drain it.
That being said, we shouldn't have been in that situation. There are a lot of "if" situations, but truly, the one stat that grabs me is our FT%. We literally could have won the game if we were decent in that fundamental.
Seems like they have developed a losing attitude and he keeps playing the same guys that keep making the same mistakes. It seems like Sueing ever comes out the game and he continues to mess up. They're defense is horrible and they run no plays it's hard to watch
My favorite was when the game was tied in the 2nd half, we gave up a 3 and then on offense Zed just walked into the ball as Bruce was dribbling it for a turnover. That was the sequence that sums up the team right now.

I have given Holtmann my utmost support since he was hired. I've made excuses for him during the bad stretches/losses. It is past time to pay the piper and admit I was wrong. I think he is a really nice guy and truly has grown to love Ohio State, but it is beyond clear he will never take this basketball program to even close to the level it needs to be. What this team has turned into is beyond bad and it is crystal clear to anyone with even a remote basketball knowledge that almost all of the problems with this team are directly related to bad coaching.
I can pretty much guarantee that Gene will not pull the trigger on a firing midseason, but that's what needs to be done. When it becomes clear you need to start over you need to start over ASAP and not drag something on that has no chance for success. It isn't fair to the players, it isn't fair to the fans and it's not fair to Holtmann himself.
I appreciate the passion coach Holtmann tried to bring and I think he always tried his hardest to get Ohio State basketball back to the level it needs to be on. However, it was and is a failure and it's time to move on.
I really think Chris should be let go no later than Saturday morning. Tonight preferably. The North Carolina loss was the end of the season. This team just does not want to win. Finish the year out with an assistant fill in and start the search after the season is officially over with no invite to even the NIT.

How does a B1G team shoot under 38% from the field three games in a row, especially when two of them are league bottom feeders. I have pointed out that they were not getting to the foul line enough, tonight they get there 23 times but only make 15. This is about 20% below where they shot the last three games when they were well over 80%.
I have seen enough of Sueing his one nice pass to Sensabaugh does little to make up for his poor play. The offense is so wing oriented they had a difficult time getting the ball into the post when Walker was out of the game and had a obvious mismatch.
Thornton with a 1-6 shooting night, his best conference game was 4-10 from the floor, the balance of the games is about 25%.
It's time to move on. Team hasn't been the same since the Carolina loss. The Fox All Access was all-telling. Players not responding and poor coaching late in the games.
That’s a really good point. I haven’t thought about it much but the UNC loss seems to be where the team just went underwater and hasn’t resurfaced. It’s like watching a bad ending every damn game with the same result that was determined in the final 20 seconds.

It’s because the players have zero confidence in their coach. This team has quit on Holtmann. They haven’t quit on basketball, since some of them have NBA aspirations or are likely looking for a good landing spot via transfer next season. But when the team has quit on the coach it’s time to move on from the coach.
There isn’t one thing they do well right now. They act as if they have never seen a press. The amount of layups this team leaves at the rim is astonishing. Defensively they get lost and trap the post from the same side wing constantly leaving an easy pass out for 3. Ohio State is gonna get most teams best shot and outside of Sensabaugh no one has a pulse out there.
Play the young guys. Live with their mistakes but invest playing time with guys who have eligibility beyond this year. Gayle, Okpara, and Holden are due for more minutes and Ice/Sueing/McNeil need some more bench time.
This is why it was so stupid to give him an extension at the end of last season. Anybody with half a basketball brain could have told you that. But then there was the Holtmann apologist on here that said how great this year was going to be.

Most coaches recruit guys that they think will play in their system. Since there is no system, how does he recruit? He recruits guys that all play the same game and obviously doesn't think big men are worth recruiting.
It's frustrating and there doesn't seem to be any hope that it will turn around. Last year it was because of all the guys that were hurt. This year, it started out with they're young, they need time to gel. Well, the easiest part of the B1G schedule is now behind us and none of us see any sign of hope.
Remember when Jim O’Brien was fed up with the effort from the starters in the 2003-2004 season not showing effort? We played Bobby knights texas tech team and he started 5 walk on/bench players, 2 of which were Nick Dials and Ugo Nwanko. Can’t remember the other 3, sure someone on here could. We didn’t play great in the game but only lost by I think 8. Season was a wreck as it was and it turned out to be Jim’s last season. Why doesn’t H try that?! What’s he afraid of? Losing? He’s been pretty good at that……Give the bench guys some minutes, there really isn’t much to lose

He plays WAY too many guys. The team can never find a "rhythm " and I am sure we have about 10 very frustrated players over playing time. By try to appease many - he is frustrating all.
I am shocked. I do NOT think he is a bad coach, but he is panicking and coaching desperate. He needs to identify to FIVE and have 2-3 sub guys.
The ball is sticking because everyone is looking for their own shots - they d not want taken out. We had such a free-flowing offense and now we hold onto the ball until late is shot clock and get bad shots.
Teams have figured out we cannot handle pressure - we do not have dependable PGs....
The goal should be finish strong and play for next year. Since the bar definitely is going after this year, so need to identify a go to guy for next year. I think Roddy Gale feels a little bit like Malachi last year, a little hesitant, early in the season. He does flash some scoring ability, so extend his minutes at the expense of these six year seniors who are adding very little.
I feel sorry for Holtmann, but he can't get these guys to play for some reason. Another game where I was glad to see it end so I could still watch someone else play some actual basketball.
I've seen plenty of teams on the playground play better help defense. It's insane how many drives against OSU end up one on one. That is on the coaching staff, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!! And by all means, never ever switch up your defense. Just continue to play M-T-M when they clearly can't.

Buckeyes have nothing to lose at this point you still have to pay Holtmann his five years left on his contract (three year extension was a three million dollar epic failure by Gene Smith) but Holtmann gets less money this season after this termination. Buckeyes are the worst team in this conference.

The Buckeys are really good at keeping the game close. It doesn't matter if the opponent is #1 Purdue or winless Minnesota. There is nothing wrong with that if you win against the bad teams and at least most of the close games against the good ones. Lately, they have all turned into losses. I would even chalk it up to bad luck, but the track record goes back years. I never like calling for someone's job. Many teams would love to have a coach like Holt to get them into the NCAA's each year. The real problem is the Buckeyes can't close during crunchtime, since it is pretty much every year, so it has to be in game coaching.
How do we fix this? Initial thought is fire Holtmann, but the problem may be as simple as hiring an X's and O's guy as an assistant (like Schyer was at Duke). This would solve the end of game problems, and free up Holtmann to do the things he does well.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see close games become a thing of the past. Other teams will continue to improve while we keep regressing. I could see many lopsided games in our near future.

I agree that Holtmann is not a good tactician at all; he is a decent recruiter, big man limitations aside, and that's a huge miss. Who scores when Sensabaugh leaves? Defense, what defense? Holtmann is the head coach, the buck stops with him on all fronts.

The only thing I wanna see in regards to this program is a red banner at the top of 11W announcing Holtmann’s termination and Sueing’s retirement from turning over the basketball.
Randy Ayers did not have the players to make a competitive team at the end of his era. Holtmann has the players and has managed to transform this into an uncompetitive team. You could find a better team at the North Rec Center than Nebraska. Utterly appalling loss. . . Still back the Bucks but this is a free-fall with no end in sight.

We gave up inside cuts so easily, and the help defense just wasn't there. The problem plaguing us concerning leaving wide-open three point shooters, continues. And for whatever reason, in this game, we were missing layups. LAYUPS!
Key played decently, but seems less involved in the offense in the sense that the game doesn't flow through him. (It should) Suing's body language indicates that he is not confident. For me, it seems like our best offense is to isolate Sens, and let him do his thing.
Good thing Nebraska fans are so nice, and the venue is fantastic. I don't think there is a terrible seat in the house. (Plus tickets are dirt cheap)

Minnesota and Nebraska are two of the worst big ten teams in years and osu lost to them both and really didn’t put up much of a fight against either.

Disagree. I was there, and McNeil had a wiiiiiide open shot. He just couldn't drain it.
That being said, we shouldn't have been in that situation. There are a lot of "if" situations, but truly, the one stat that grabs me is our FT%. We literally could have won the game if we were decent in that fundamental.

I have given Holtmann my utmost support since he was hired. I've made excuses for him during the bad stretches/losses. It is past time to pay the piper and admit I was wrong. I think he is a really nice guy and truly has grown to love Ohio State, but it is beyond clear he will never take this basketball program to even close to the level it needs to be. What this team has turned into is beyond bad and it is crystal clear to anyone with even a remote basketball knowledge that almost all of the problems with this team are directly related to bad coaching.
I can pretty much guarantee that Gene will not pull the trigger on a firing midseason, but that's what needs to be done. When it becomes clear you need to start over you need to start over ASAP and not drag something on that has no chance for success. It isn't fair to the players, it isn't fair to the fans and it's not fair to Holtmann himself.
I appreciate the passion coach Holtmann tried to bring and I think he always tried his hardest to get Ohio State basketball back to the level it needs to be on. However, it was and is a failure and it's time to move on.

How does a B1G team shoot under 38% from the field three games in a row, especially when two of them are league bottom feeders. I have pointed out that they were not getting to the foul line enough, tonight they get there 23 times but only make 15. This is about 20% below where they shot the last three games when they were well over 80%.
I have seen enough of Sueing his one nice pass to Sensabaugh does little to make up for his poor play. The offense is so wing oriented they had a difficult time getting the ball into the post when Walker was out of the game and had a obvious mismatch.
Thornton with a 1-6 shooting night, his best conference game was 4-10 from the floor, the balance of the games is about 25%.

That’s a really good point. I haven’t thought about it much but the UNC loss seems to be where the team just went underwater and hasn’t resurfaced. It’s like watching a bad ending every damn game with the same result that was determined in the final 20 seconds.

It’s because the players have zero confidence in their coach. This team has quit on Holtmann. They haven’t quit on basketball, since some of them have NBA aspirations or are likely looking for a good landing spot via transfer next season. But when the team has quit on the coach it’s time to move on from the coach.

There isn’t one thing they do well right now. They act as if they have never seen a press. The amount of layups this team leaves at the rim is astonishing. When the season started, I think we all knew this team wouldn't win the B1G but we all expected them to be middle of the pack, make the tourney and have an early exit. Even that is out this year. The team is not listening to him...anyone notice how long it tool them to respond when he told them to foul at the end?
Most coaches recruit guys that they think will play in their system. Since there is no system, how does he recruit? He recruits guys that all play the same game and obviously doesn't think big men are worth recruiting.
It's frustrating and there doesn't seem to be any hope that it will turn around. Last year it was because of all the guys that were hurt. This year, it started out with they're young, they need time to gel. Well, the easiest part of the B1G schedule is now behind us and none of us see any sign of hope.
Could still get a 1st round NIT showdown with SCUM if this team gets hot and wins a few games.

We played Bobby knights texas tech team and he started 5 walk on/bench players, 2 of which were Nick Dials and Ugo Nwanko. Can’t remember the other 3, sure someone on here could. We didn’t play great in the game but only lost by I think 8. Season was a wreck as it was and it turned out to be Jim’s last season. Why doesn’t H try that?! What’s he afraid of? Losing? He’s been pretty good at that……Give the bench guys some minutes, there really isn’t much to lose

Truly, what’s the value in “I told you so.” So what? He’s not a great coach I agree. I agree with mostly all the criticisms. But seriously it makes me grit my teeth everytime I see a “why are all the people who stood up for holtman quiet now?” posts. It just oozes negativity, arrogance, and the mentality of “I know more than you.” And to be honest, I hate that. Let’s be proud and get through this season. It is what it is. He plays WAY too many guys. The team can never find a "rhythm " and I am sure we have about 10 very frustrated players over playing time. By try to appease many - he is frustrating all.
I am shocked. I do NOT think he is a bad coach, but he is panicking and coaching desperate. He needs to identify to FIVE and have 2-3 sub guys.
The ball is sticking because everyone is looking for their own shots - they d not want taken out. We had such a free-flowing offense and now we hold onto the ball until late is shot clock and get bad shots.
Teams have figured out we cannot handle pressure - we do not have dependable PGs....
The goal should be finish strong and play for next year. Since the bar definitely is going after this year, so need to identify a go to guy for next year. I think Roddy Gale feels a little bit like Malachi last year, a little hesitant, early in the season. He does flash some scoring ability, so extend his minutes at the expense of these six year seniors who are adding very little.

I've seen plenty of teams on the playground play better help defense. It's insane how many drives against OSU end up one on one. That is on the coaching staff, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!! And by all means, never ever switch up your defense. Just continue to play M-T-M when they clearly can't.
