I was relistening to Mike and Mike from January 13th today on youtube and they were 100% convinced that we'd lose at least one of the QBs to transfer or the draft. Now its not impossible, but I just feel these three guys aren't predictable. That is, they aren't who you expect. Their ego's aren't there, they aren't selfish, and they are smart. It seems more like a brotherhood than a rivalry/brewing competition between Miller, Barrett, and Jones. I think they all understand the situation and that this team is more important than themselves. I think the culture Meyer has created is one of family and thats difficult to convince yourself to leave. Above all other things, though, I think they just don't care for the bullshit. I think neither of them want drama or give into the drama, and just like having a good time and enjoying success. If all three stay, which is getting more and more likely by the day, college football will be confused as hell as in a predictive world, you'd expect Miller to graduate and transfer, Jones to have left early for the draft because he may be a back up next year and he might as well earn money, or JT Barrett to consider transferring if he isn't named the starter or even the back up. I think college football will be confused as hell, and it will be glorious.

Interesting point about Cardale and struggling in goal-to-go situations. In the Spring game, they practiced that and gave him 4-5 chances to pass from about the 3 yard line, with no completions. In a real game, OSU would probably run from there, but still, the idea of starting Cardale and having a goal-to-go QB is interesting.
Pure gold Ramzy. I literally threw my good luck charm in a pissed off rage when JT went down. Yelling "I dont even want to make the playoffs now, I dont want to be embarrassed again!" I guess we all had to learn how to trust Urban and company. He/they earned it...and then some. I love this team.
Well done on this, Ramzy. This is somewhat of a good problem to have, and a potential big time problem if a shuffle begins to occur. What if they put in a kid who struggles and they need a spark?
Cardale, as great as he did, did have monumental errors in all of his games. He showed a ton of moxy coming back from each, but those could have been killers.
The one thing I keep coming back to, is the probability of injury for these quarterbacks is pretty high in this offense.
Annnndd, I've not wanted to jiggle soo badly before seeing this.
So Brax starts, gashes defenses until we get into the red zone. JT takes over and leads us to 25-30 TDs and has less than 500 yards passing and rushing. Cardale is only used when we need to chuck it down the field for 75 yards, like Hail Mary's. That could work though I'd feel awful for Cardale. But on the upside Brax has even more motivation to score every time he runs the football and plus the motivation to get drafted could make his passing more efficient which would render all this moot anyway. My brain hurts.
Excellent writing and the bourbon tutorial is much appreciated. The rest of it should fill me with joy, because well, choices, right? Instead I just feel anxiety because 2 deserving kids won't play.
First world problems and all, but still just sucks.
You can write all the scripts for people you want, it doesn't mean they're going to take direction.
How bout those lazy shmucks over at Ohio State's BioEngineering department get off their asses and do something useful, like build a clone with the legs of Braxton, the arm of Cardale, and the eyes of JT.
Yes! The answer to the question, "Which QB will play?" is all three of them -- only at QB -- at any possible time, depending on the situation. They've all earned it. They've all proven it. None of them needs to be groomed for the future. None of them needs to be THE guy, because each one of them is THE guy. They each bring something unique to the table. Play them all.
Same Mash Bill as Basil Hayden's and with the higher proof and less watered down flavor profile makes for a great pour, OGD 114 is extremely hard to find in my neck of the woods anymore. (Just like Elmer T. Lee)
My years of medical training at the University of Watching Scrubs Reruns taught me feet shouldn't do that.
It may sound morbid but I laughed at this one.
Who Sucks Less isn’t a quarterback controversy; it’s a drinking game.
This was comedy gold for me. Hysterical!!!
-I remember that year with Tommy Frazier. He was such a dominant physical player. Blood clots in the legs got him.
-I believe the majority of Jones's success was due to the running game being so dominant and difficult to stop in base defense. Even Alabama couldn't stop it in base consistantly and they cheated up Johnson. Vertical routes are going to be one on one and then its just a toss up. Jones did really well within the framework he was given. Think of how high his ceiling would be after some coaching and reps. Jones could be a 3500-4000 yard passer in this offense. He certainly has the ability to do it and a running game to open it up with.
-Situational QBs? I don't know man. Usually when you start sharing what happens is instead of making everyone happy what ends up happening is that nobody is happy. But yeah. First world problems. Should be an interesting season. OSU has a unique problem I haven't seen since Stanley Jackson and Joe Germaine.
-Basils, Makers Mark, Wild Turkey. When I was drinking, Beam was my go to brand. I've had Makers Mark and I've had Wild Turkey. I have not had Basils. Never heard of it till today. I've always enjoyed that smokey charred smoothness of Beam. Turkey is what I would prefer of those two due to its similarity to Beam. I just didn't find it as smooth. Of course now a days I rarely drink bourbon. When I do I usually go for the Elijah Craig 12 year old. I like the taste of it poured over ice. But just one. More than that might start a process that ends with me waking up naked on the hood of a car somewhere 3 states from my location. LOL
I enjoyed this piece you wrote. Made me laugh. Made me think. And of course learned something....about booze. ;)
I agree with the comments on how unselfish all three QBs have been. I think that at by year's end, all three will see a lot of the field. I think no matter what Cardale will see enough action to make a strong case for the NFL after this season. I hope Braxton is able to do the same. With the arsenal of weapons we have returning, I see us in blowouts against a lot of teams this year which means that whoever is #2 is going to see plenty of reps and playing time.
Personally, I think JT is the most complete of the three QBs in terms of running the full offense effectively, making correct reads, making the throws that need made, etc.. I think as much as Meyer loves Miller's game-breaking ability and Jones' cannon of an arm to stretch defenses, from the team's standpoint and with the weapons he's got he will look to the guy who can best "manage" the offense. I know that a QB who is a "manager" has become a dirty word, but that was what Barrett did all year, and I think it served us well. I think he will look to start Barrett and bring in Braxton and Jones in relief. I think against defenses that are strong enough to stack the box and create problems for our offense (Penn State, MSU, possibly Va Tech come to mind), he'll bring in a lot of Cardale's big arm to make them pay for it.
I think that if Miller comes off this injury as healthy and effective as many are predicting, Braxton could win the starting spot. But, I only give Braxton about a 30% chance of making it through the full season without another injury. I know he's had all the time in the world to get healthy, but the guy seems very vulnerable to injuries. If Braxton is injured, then we've got some combo of Barrett and Cardale and, as I said, if it's down to 2 QBs they'll both be seeing plenty of playing time.
The idea of using different QBs for different situations is definitely intriguing. But don't count out a Jones-led offense when it comes to red zone scoring. I think the early red zone struggles against bama were caused more by nervous jitters than anything else. Just look at our red zone efficiency in the championship game : 100%, all TDs.

Also, I did find a Pappy 23 YO this year on Jan. 3 while out to diner with my wife and another couple. My buddy and I proceeded to drink the entire bottle at $39 a glass ( As my wife knows this was a 3+ year search, I got the OK at the start, but she was pissed when she had to walk me to the car and then drive us home.) EPIC Night.

just play them all. If the game is close go with the hot hand and be done with it.
i like braxton to start. Just because back when the clown show was in full effect, the defense was giving up 800 yards a game and cardale was busy playing school.. Braxton was single handidly carrying the entire program. Its his team, Hes earned it...IMHO.
I really want to refrain from commenting, but brain nor mouth nor typing type fingers have any self control at all.
There was a reason JT was starter over CJ and a reason Brax was a starter over him. I truly believe that IF < no larger font available > Brax is 100% - He'll be the "starter". But the powers-that-be will absolutely let all 3 of them shine when and if possible. IMHO.
GO BUCKS!!!!
"you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning"
I say we split the first team reps in thirds all week and then Saturday morning draw a name out of a hat or let Urban decide who he thinks will be the team in front of them. That will be a nightmare for opponents! How can one team gameplan for 3 QB's? However, I do think it should be between Braxton and Cardale. Braxton is so dynamic and versatille and is a 2 time B1G POY and Cardale won the 3 most important games of the season.
Keeping team chemistry will be challenging. I don't know how we can keep the 3 quarterbacks happy. They all deserve to start and they probably have groups of players that would prefer that they start. Interesting challenge to have. I trust Urban to handle it.
I love JT and think he likely runs the offense the best, but when you've got a guy in Cardale Jones who can chuck it down field like no ones business and is a potential #1 pick, I think you gotta start him! You could sprinkle in some wildcat with Braxton as well, then JT is then your starter in 2016, and until he graduates or leaves for the NFL.
Braxton had to carry the team his first year with Sicisliano as his QB coach and no WR help. He won 12 games on his own for Meyer's first year. Had Hyde help him his Jr. year with an improved Philly Brown as his only wr option. Holy shit give him the weapons we have now and a real defense. He deserves it. Braxton for Heisman baby
