These articles are the pinnacle of putting all all things Buckeye football in context. Always looked at with a refreshing spin. Go Bucks! Two thirds of my coworkers are in Atlanta, so please for the love of God beat Georgia.

Negativity is a choice I seldom make. Everything has a positive spin. Sometimes you simply have to look a little harder

The Daily Athletic today featured a very similar article. Right now I'm just rooting for them. Go Buckeyes!

i liked our chances in '15 - BIG title rout of wiscy. cardale jones would do whatever he could to help the team win. we had tough running game with a healthy starting RB. that team also had great blocking at WR (watch the replay of elliots 85 yard run and see  who it was that took out 2 bama defenders with ONE block). THAT team back then would do WHATEVER was needed to win..........they did the less glamourous things. the qb, however bad at it he was - would at least TRY to run the ball when under pressure. i thought that team wanted to win.............i've yet to see any of the above from this team. and w;hat bugs me the most about the buckeyes of the past couple years - if things start to go against them - there doesn't seem to be any fight in them ...........THREE points against michigan in the entire second half? that 2015 team was "great", not just on talent, but the intangibles as well.  this team has the talent but not drive needed against equally talented teams.  i'd love for the bucks to win; but i don't see it happening. i like the bulldogs

After winning 59-0 against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game that team of Cardale, Zeke Elliott, Joey Bosa, Michael Thomas, Jalin Marshall, Evan Spencer, Heurerman, Vannett, Elflein, Price, Jacoby Boren, Taylor Decker, Marcus Hall, Vonn Bell, Eli Apple, Doran Grant, Curtis Grant, Josh Perry, Darron Lee, Raekwon McMillan, Adolphus Washington, Michael Bennett, and Steve Miller was never getting curb stomped by anybody. Should have been back to back National Champions if Meyer would have played Zeke in the second half against MSU in the rain and slop. This team we got this year is going to get slaughtered by Georgia. It will be over at half. 45-17 Georgia in a beat down.

This is my mindset as well and IT SUCKS. When they're clicking, this team is a monster, but their collective pants wetting against TTUN, at home no less, suggested that the "it" factor isn't there for this group. If that's coaching, leadership, give-a-shit quotient, whatever...they had the shot they wanted and missed, badly. No more talk, no more excuses, no more hype, please.

what bugs me the most about that isn't that GA gets to play close to home - they're #1 and defending NC. what bugs me is that if a BIG team was in the same position, there is NO way they get that consideration and have a bowl scheduled up north. so, if some teams never get that option, nobody should.

One would think so.  That said, as one of my UGA-fan friends pointed-out, UGA doesn't exactly destroy teams in the Peach Bowl.  I looked it up and I'm having a hard time finding a game where it was decided by more than 1 score.  While we're all discussing history that doesn't impact the current game, we might as well go both ways with it.

I prefer to look at this as "Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde", with most of us wanting "Mr. Edward Hyde" to come out and play for at least 60 minutes of regulation, and maybe 120 minutes altogether for two games (plus any potential overtime).

Either way?  What happens at The Peach Bowl, and how it happens, will determine quite a few things.  For one?  Legacy of this year's team.  For another?  The reputation of the coaching, and it's impact.  Third?  How folks will view the individuals and collective.  Are they tough?  Are they diciplined?  Will they do whatever it takes to win?

The jersey collars say "Fight", and it's supposedly been the theme for this year's season.  Well, there's a few folks on both sides of the ball that have internalized that.  The rest (to include personnel at key positions) have had a good number of folks (including myself) questioning toughness, willingness to fight, tenacity, etc.  The playcalling, at times, in critical moments, also is been called to question, as that too, is a tale of two kinds.

We are all aware of what talent potential exists with this team and program.  The question is, "Where are the pre-bye week Buckeyes, and how do we get them back in time for CFP Bowl Season?".  Because like it or not, there are ramifications beyond winning at stake here.  This is unfamiliar territory for some Buckeye fans, and it's certainly unfamiliar for the program this century.  It isn't enough to be a "highly ranked" kid out of high school.  It isn't enough to win against the Kent States of The World.  You're gonna have to BEAT THE CONTENDERS, or else you're just gonna end up being looked at as PRETENDERS."

What's it going to be?  WE FIND OUT IN A LITTLE OVER ELEVEN DAYS...

HS

If you're wanting the "pre-bye week" Buckeyes to show up, then we will have had 5 of them for this game, so, I like our chances.

I get accused of scarlet glasses a lot. It's so easy for OSU haters/SEC lovers to point to the OSU's record against the SEC. 2-13 is pretty bad, but that's like talking about how great Michigan is and all their national championships, but since 1948, UM's had only a 1/2 of a national championship. Recency is what counts.

It is easy to go back to the John Cooper era, he wasn't good in any bowl. Tressel was a little better. After 2007, Tress revamped his team to include speedsters everywhere, and it paid off in the Sugar Bowl. Of course SEC lovers say that game didn't count, maybe OSU had to vacate the win, but Arkansas cannot vacate the loss (really), that game counts for them. When Florida beat interim coach Luke, the narrative that OSU can't beat an SEC was back on. Then the Meyer era began.

Urban got rid of the narrative with a vengence, his 2014 team physically bullied Alabama all night long. Unfortunately, Ryan brought it back, but of course it had an asterisk with 27 (or so) players out, and Fields with his broken ribs.

I don't see 2-14, I see 2-2. This is not the John Cooper Buckeyes, nor is it Jim Tressels. It is not 2020, this is 2022, and if Kevin Wilson is allowed to set the offensive gameplan, OSU is going to go wild on that GA secondary. 1-1 since 2014, will become 2-1 on Dec 31st.

Who has Georgia really played this year that was any good?  They didn't play Alabama and they beat a rebuilding LSU team.

Tennessee? puh-lease weazy. They're all upper body and no legs.

Yes, Georgia is decent, but, they still haven't proven how good they really are if, in fact, they are really good at all.

Let’s not throw too many stones. We played 3 teams this year.

HS
VintonCountyBuck's picture

We’ve been the higher ranked team in only 4 of those matchups you listed.. We’re 1-3 in such games.  While that’s not exactly an argument that’s going to convince anyone that it’s not nearly as bad as it sounds against the Big Bad SEC.. There’s actually only ever been a handful of games that we were even supposed to win.  So this isn’t new territory for the Bucks..

We as fans have seen this narrative before and have felt the disrespect that it brings.  We’ve lived the disappointment of losing the one game that we couldn’t and ending up as one of the side acts in the Bowl Season’s circus. This game is not that.  Not even close.  This one is going to take place in the main ring.

For all of those teams that have come before now and those that will, in the future.. The narrative can be stopped here.  I always poke fun at some of my friends from Minnesota about the shear number of trophy games their freaking school plays for every year.. Lol. Well folks.. These are the trophy games that we play for at Ohio State.  Go Bucks!  Beat Georgia!!!

It's not that anyone is soft. The problem is that OSU is a big enough brand to recruit well nationally so a large chunk of their impact players weren't raised within the rivalry. Urban is an Ohio guy so he was able to mitigate the problem but now that Day is in control and the majority of his players are from out of state you have a program that doesn't know how to take that game as seriously as needed to win

I think they come out firing on all cylinders, just like the 2014 Sugar Bowl. That said, there will be adversity, just like in that game. How this team, especially it's HC and captains, reacts to said adversity will indicate whether or not the Bucks will win. Will they pucker up and piss down their leg like they did vs TTUN or fight back like the 2014 team late in the 2nd quarter. E + R = O. How will this team respond?

Actually in 2014, OSU was down 21-6. Then scored four straight touchdowns. Lane Kiffin didn’t run Derrick Henry enough. But to be honest, the Tide weren’t stopping Zeke and Cardale and the receivers either. Hell OSU’s defensive backs looked like they were playing a different sport compared to the guys who are out there now. Urban’s defense gave up a lot of points in that game but the offense was unstoppable.

That’s the whole irony about Ryan Day. Supposedly an offensive guru but when you only score in the 20’s in the biggest games, this defense (let’s face it- these issues go back to two or three years ago with Coombs) isn’t holding a very good to elite offense under 30+ points. It just ain’t happening. I like what Knowles has done up to the Michigan game. But a lot of that was on the players. Their job is to tackle. On offense, I think a lot of the issues are on Ryan Day. Stroud gets some of the critique but Day is the one who designs these plays.

HS
Bucktown 5.7x28's picture

Their fans might care. The coaches might say they “feel” snubbed but I don’t see why the players care. They are the favorites for a reason. They are the defending champs with a 24-1 record over the last 25 games. That’s at a Bama or Clemson type clip. Or OSU 2012-2014 type clip. I’m not a heavy gambler but I’d be confident that UGA will be locked in for this game. OSU will have to match intensity and execution. Ryan Day is at a big disadvantage because he doesn’t have an OC to delegate things to and just focus on the overall status of the team. He’s gotta call plays, make sure the plays are in on time, watch how they all line up, etc. At least on defense he can rely on Knowles.

We are worse than Georgia but we have a decent chance of winning--about 33%.

Fans treat college football as if there is an unalterable hierarchy of teams. This is because of rankings and the limited number of games and the historical lack of a playoff. And for Ohio State against the Big 10, there really is an unalterable hierarchy in which most teams have only a 5% chance of beating us.

But when it is a good team against a great team, the good team can beat the great team. Like a 6-10 team in the NFL playing a 10-6 team. Or Penn State playing Ohio State.

Unfortunately, we are Penn State in this comparison. So let's hope for a freak block kick returned for a touchdown.

It still pisses me off that we're playing Georgia in Atlanta, and hour from their home stadium. They need to fix that, asap. We've got a better than average shot, I believe, because--as we've experienced--it's HAAAAARD to be #1. All the pressure, the fear of dropping a game, the self doubt, "are we really that good?" etc. NOBODY thinks Georgia is going to lose this playoff. NOBODY. It's a veritable cake walk for them. And that's why it's DANGEROUS for them. Because if they believe their own hype for just a millisecond, they'll lose their focus and start feeling sorry for themselves when we come to play and hit them in the mouth. I do NOT "fear" Georgia the way I "fear" a Nick Saban coached Alabama. Bucks by 14.

Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.

HS
Steelydan54's picture

I'm gonna keep pounding this point; if Day does "whatever it takes", he will he will bring McCord in to have a legit RPO. Stroud is not a natural runner. He's shifty in the pocket and a wide open field will yield some yards, ala Northwestern, but he rightly believes in his arm more than his legs. Kyle has no problem tucking the ball and forcing the D to account for both arm and legs. He can throw the ball or he wouldn't be at OSU, so bring him in for a series or two and force GA to account for him. Once we have them playing more honest, or if we've run enough to get a lead, let Stroud carve up their suspect secondary.
we have nothing to lose and a change at QB forces Defenses to prepare (or not) for two very different styles.  Cardale was the perfect change of pace to take us to the Natty in 2014-5.

It sounds crazy, but Saban benched Jalen Hurts for Tua Tagliovola when they were down 13-0 in the NC game at half and it ended up working for them.  I don't think Hurts is so scarred by the incident that he can't go on, maybe ask Eagles fans.   Now, I am not suggesting that we do this, but we really should be pulling out all the stops to win this game.  Kind of like using your ace starting pitcher in long relief in game 7 of the World Series if that is what it takes.
