Heisman Watch: C.J. Stroud is the Favorite Once Again, Marvin Harrison Jr. Among Top-11 Odds

I would LOVE for CJ to win the Heisman, but the constant talk about him being the frontrunner or his chances at winning it has got to be a distraction of some kind.

Balancing campaigning for our guy to win it, while also trying to stay focused on the task at hand, has to be extremely difficult.

To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

I wonder how much this distracts Day if at all when calling plays?

It would be Good for CJ to win the Heisman, it be Better to win a Natty and it would be Best for his legacy for him to beat TTUN.

There have been a few instances this year where I definitely feel like Day has tried to get him stats. We’ll call three straight slant passes from the two yard line instead of just running it. He also leaves him in during blowouts for like two more possessions than necessary.

We also are kind of bad at short-yardage running this year.

It will all come down to 11/26..........as it should in the Big 10!

Bring it home CJ! 3 games left. GoBucks!

I hope Michigan never wins another game.

I absolutely do not understand this but I will definitely take it! Would be a great recruiting tool if he could pull it off.

I often wonder how much the travel circuit for winning the Heisman impacted Troy Smith for the CFP game.  Clearly Florida had a better game plan and losing Ginn early was a big hit but still wonder how much winning the Heisman impacted his prep.  Wonder the same thing for Bryce Young last year.

I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!

I think that’s over blown. Floridas DEs were in our backfield on every snap. There’s not much a QB can do about that.

HS

I give Urban the credit for that.  B10 teams werent caught up to what he was doing down there at Florida.

Who knows about Smith but Bryce Young played pretty well last year...it doesn't help when your #1 receiver goes down mid-game and your game plan goes to shit.

Alabama would have won that game if Jameson hadn't gotten hurt.

I don't think Alex Boone and Kirk Barton were on the rubber chicken circuit with Troy. They had no chance v Florida DEs. SEC speed was a real thing.

One of the saddest days of my buckeye fandom. I so loved Troy Smith and his story and wanted it to be topped with a Natty and a better NFL career.

Beat Michigan, the rest will take care of itself

It shows you how crazy last Saturday was when Stroud can throw for 76 yards while completing 38% of his passes and regain the lead in the Heisman odds.

But I like it!

I loved that Troy won in 2006, but I bet he would he would have preferred the National Championship win over that. CJ has already said he doesn't care about stats, winning is his goal. I'm rooting for CJ, and hoping his Heisman campaign takes off like his legs did in the NW game.

I will say I am a little surprised by this considering the stats of Hooker and Caleb Williams. My expectation would have been anywhere from 1-3 possibly as low as 3. Heck, even Drake May at UNC seems to have better stats if not the best. Maybe the expectation factors in several games Stroud sat out a quarter or more in blowouts, however I think Stroud is getting the nod for being undefeated currently on a highly ranked OSU team. Link to a list of heisman candidates stats below...

If anything, Bo Nix and Caleb Williams should be closer to #1 than they are. The issue is wins matter a lot more than they should when it comes to the Heisman and both Nix and Williams have losses.

Corum is definitely the best non-QB right now so hopefully we can end that campaign on 11/26.

The obsession with it makes Nissan happy, but it's kinda nauseating to me.  Where else in sports do you see this running scorecard for one particular piece of hardware that half the time doesn't even go to the best player?

HS

There’s no way we get this because…reasons, but New York right now, should be CJ, Hooker, Caleb Williams, & Bo Nix. Statistically, not really a compelling reason for Corum to be there. His yardage/TDS are largely a result of him having 100 or so more attempts than Miyan. Give any above average RB that many touches with that schedule and you’d put up numbers. What these 4 QB’s are doing is special and should be rewarded.

As long as Stroud keeps his head down and continues to do whatever it takes to keep his team winning, the stats will be there for him to stay in the lead. One day is all it takes to win it or lose it and on a terrible statistical day for C.J., his team won and Hooker's lost. Let the game come to you and just be yourself C.J. and the individual awards will come flowing in....(as long as you keep leading the Bucks to Victory)

Good to see CJ was not penalized for that game vs. NW. No QB could throw in those conditions. CJ did make some key plays with his legs, including a 44 yarder that led to a TD. It wasn't a Heisman moment, but it was a very important run with the outcome still in doubt. One subpar game doesn't diminish his overall talent.

HS
BucksHave7's picture

Prior to NIL, the monetary value of winning a Heisman trophy was an extra $1M in lifetime earnings.

I wonder what that number is now.

HS
AZ Buckeye13's picture

If Bryce Young had the game that Stroud did last Saturday (he did at Auburn last season) it was/is a "Heisman moment". For Stroud...it is what was wrong with him? Just isn't always a level playing field. Any other QB (Heisman hopefuls) plays the same or worse in similar conditions.

Corum being at #3 is interesting. My take: Ohio State needs to know where Corum is every snap on November 26. Take him out of the game and make McCarthy beat you.

HS
Dr. Bucknut's picture

If not CJ I don't give a hoot who wins the Heisman as long as it isn't Corum. Demon Coward will be an insufferable ass if that happens.  Oh wait, that's already the case.

Don't eat the salad. They are trying to poison us.

Stetson Bennett on this list, LOL.

It speaks volumes that after CJ's worst game putting up nearly no stats that he is the front runner, if we stay undefeated and he does what he typically does he has a better chance than anyone.
