Skull Session: Kamryn Babb Says Goodbye to Ohio State Football, Sam Hubbard Was Mic'd Up For His Fumble Return TD and the Buckeyes Rank Second All-Time in the AP Poll Era
get a life "Hoody"..this was about Babb and his beliefs and impact at Ohio State. Tired of people like you so easily offended over nothing. This was a great story--keep up the good work Chase!
Wait, what does Chase describing Babb as a "purpose-driven life" person have anything to do with the commenting-policy? He didn't bring up anything related to politics, religion and any social issue. just giving Babb an accurate description. I think you are projecting.
and why did you reply to 6266 with this?
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
I wrote about my thoughts on the basketball team in Monday's Skully and about the importance of Justice Sueing in turning the program around on Tuesday, but I just didn't have much to add for tonight's game. After all, it's a 10-7 Ohio State team up against a 9-9 Nebraska team, and there's not exactly a ton of hype surrounding the Basketbucks at the moment.
Hubbard seems like an obvious choice as a Cincinnati kid playing for his hometown team. I’m curious if they mic up more than one player per team per game.
Looks like that Song of the Day video was recorded at Red Rocks in Colorado. It’s an incredible amphitheater to watch a show, particularly for an outdoor venue.
Time and change will surely show how firm thy friendship, O HI O.
Be sure to go, Squirrel. Once you make the steep climb up to the "stadium" there is nothing like it. I saw the Counting Crows there about 12 years ago. Snow fell during the show.....in June! It was pretty surreal and a great show. My daughters saw Keith Urban there. Don't miss it...
They do a 4th of July concert every year there and its awesome. You see all the fireworks from all over Denver. I have been to a couple concerts there. Great place for sure! We saw Blue's Traveler once and it happened to be right after Michael Jackson died. They did a smash up of a bunch of his songs, it was amazing.
Unrelated to Red Rocks but related to Blue's Traveler, I have also heard them cover The Devil Went Down to Georgia in concert. Hearing him jam out the fiddle parts on his harmonica was unbelievable.
You all see the Rashada news with Florida? I think all these high dollar collectives are going to fall apart and some schools are going to leave a bad taste in recruits mouth. Wish Buckeyes would do more with NIL but at least they aren't pulling bullshit that will piss off future players.
and no interest in Rashada. He definitely is looking for NIL deals and not worried about football.
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
I'll try to expound - Companies and money have too much influence on politics. Hopefully not calling out anyone in particular abides with the commenting policy.
Of the TOP 10 football programs per AP Poll stats five are or will be BIG teams four are or will be SEC teams... the SEC adding two and the BIG adding one ... hard to believe at one time the BIG's Minnesota Golden Gophers were a real power at one time right around the time the AP poll came into being ... that is rather ironic but they fell to the wayside not soon after
It's amazing that we're the #2 on that list despite the fact that we literally never get the benefit of the doubt. Every season. "Who's this OSU team?" I can still remember that 2002 Buckeye team and people saying Iowa was the "best team in the B1G." Ohio against the world. Man I'm looking forward to the expanded playoffs.
We may just have different ideas of what benefit of the doubt means but to me, preseason ranking is a pretty good indicator. That being how good they think you’ll be before they ever see you play. If I’m reading this right, according to this story we’re number 2 since 1950 in preseason rankings, so while many like to play the part of always being disrespected, this metric clearly says otherwise.
This is called "lying with statistics." All that yahoo poll demonstrates is that OSU has been "pre-season ranked" in the top 25 for a long, long time. Not #1 or #2, could be #9, #14, #1 or whatever. Each "ranking" has a point award. #1 is 25 points, #2 is 24 points, and so on and so forth. in actuality, this upcoming season is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. We're "pre-season ranked" #2 by ESPN, and pretty much everyone else has us #4 or lower for 2023. No #1's whatsoever. Georgia, despite losing Bennett and others, is the unanimous #1. THAT's "getting the benefit of the doubt." Alabama's #2 in most of the preseason polls despite losing Young. That's getting the benefit of the doubt too. And every season since the BCS, and now the playoff era, we always seem to be "playing ourselves in" or "backing in" to whatever post season game there is. I think the ONLY time we "ran the table" as the #1 was the 2007 season (if memory serves) then we lost to LSU in the Sugar Bowl NC. It's NOT POSSIBLE for the sports establishment to look at what we did to Georgia in the semifinal and say "you know what, OSU and Coach Day ARE a good program, let's put them at the consensus #1 or #2." Nope. Heck, even TTUN get's "the benefit of the doubt." Most pre-season polls have them ranked ahead of us.
It’s not a yahoo poll, it’s from cfn, the same source as the poll Chase used and you cited. And uses basically the same measurements.
ranking system for finishing ap poll: Take all the AP final rankings and use our simple scoring system – the AP national champion in each season gets 25 points, the No. 2 team 24, No. 3 23, and so on down to the bottom.
Ranking system for preseason poll: CFN devised a scoring system giving every AP-ranked preseason No. 1 team from 1950 to 2022 25 points, the No. 2 team 24, No. 3 23, and so on down to the bottom of the top 20 in the early years, and then it became the top 25 later on
You can write what you want about our rankings but overall, it’s not true. This is from Ohiostatebuckeyes.com. Preseason ranking between the 2013-22 seasons, Ohio State has earned rankings of No. 2, 5, 1, 6, 2, 5, 5, 2, 4 and 2. So half the time, we started off in the top 2. But go ahead and call the lying statistics as well, might as well make up a cute name since you don’t have any facts to support.
First off, lighten up, Francis. You're at a 10, and I'm at a 1. This is not a big deal, and arguing with anonymous people on the internet is a sure way to ruin your day. Trust me. I didn't invent "lying with statistics," it's an old saying that comes from a great book from the 50's, How to Lie with Statistics."
Yes, you're right, it's NOT a "yahoo poll." Yahoo is a news aggregator (they do not produce the content, they link to other sources for content, and in this instance, CFN which is part of the "paramount group" which bought CBS sports, which bought scout.com which CFN is part of. Wikipedia is amazing!
Your post LITERALLY proves my point. Our "average ranking" based on the last 10 years you cite is 3.4 or #3. Ain't too shabby, but doesn't get us to #2 based upon real averages, but again, I'm talking about NEXT SEASON. Ain't no reason we can't/shouldn't be ranked higher. Now, have a nice day and get outside and get some sun. It does WONDERS for your mood. I'm going to do the same.
Only of us has been using all caps, so may want to reconsider that one.
And please stop using “literally.” I’ll be nice and not presume you’re of a really younger generation that seem to use it as a filler, but nonetheless, you’re not using it correctly.
The point of naming the source of the poll is it is the same source for the poll you initially cited in trying to prove a point. And aside from the date range, uses the exact same scoring factors. So you believe that scoring system means something for one measurement but not another?
And no, the 10 year stat doesn’t prove your point of us not getting the benefit of the doubt. You correctly did the math and demonstrated we have a preseason ranking of 3.4. Do you know what are final ranking average was over that same period of time? I’ll give you a hint, it was higher on average that thought we were better than we turned out.
But I do agree, it’s a nice day and this is a futile exercise, and I’m now being childish by wanting the last word. I will try to stay off for awhile, but no guarantee. I just loathe the narrative your pushing b/c I hate how our fanbase is labeled as whiners, so it’s hard for me to brush off comments that promote it.
To be fair, anyone who watched the Buckeyes play in 2002 will remember how incredibly lucky they were. There is a very good argument to this day that Iowa was better than the Buckeyes that year. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we never got to find out. The fact that that team beat Miami is still one of the more incredible upsets I have ever witnessed.
NIL is a deal that will create prima donna athletes among a team. They'll want better treatment, They'll want things that are far better earned. The term rat poison comes to mind. My experience was military as a young man. We were all equally broke. We were all working class dogs. We had a lot of brotherhood - just by being there. Can't imagine the sweet deal guy expecting a sacrifice.
Regarding Alabama being first. The past decade is an incredible indicator. We have to beat them consistently to take that spot.
Indeed. I was just reading that a Florida Gator QB commit who de-committed from Miami was going to sue UF because his 4 year, $13 MILLION deal fell through. $13 MILLION. To put that into context, Lamar Jackson is on a four year $9 million deal. Dude was the NFL MVP a couple seasons ago. This is absurd.
Zach Harrison certainly made plays as a Buckeye and PFFs assessment is valid. Some of his film is nauseating as he is so often just so damn close to getting a sack or forcing a fumble and stuffing his stat sheet, but it just didn't happen. It would be nice if the law of averages swings in his favor and he wrecks shop as a pro.
Regarding AP Poll, I thought I read a year ago that OSU ranked 1st in # of times appearing in the AP top 25. Another way to look at it. Shouldn't have changed.
Was watching the Bengals game and saw Sam Hubbard's runback in real time and my daughter and I were going wild. I did say "oh crap it's coming back" when I saw the Bengal player push the Baltimore player in the back, but luckily the refs missed that. Boy, Hubbard has long strides and has amazing speed for a guy his size. Also, great reflexes and hands scooping the ball out of the air.

Funny how there’s a BasketBucks game tonight and it’s not even mentioned…
A slow news day and they still can't get a mention.
Out of sight out of mind.
Griffin wrote a great preview on tonight's game, though, if you are interested: https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-basketball/2023/01/136957/basketball-preview-ohio-state-in-desperate-need-of-win-on-the-road-at-nebraska
In a slow news period, a single line saying "BTN 7pm tune in true believers" maybe?
I’m not knocking you for it but more calling out how most fans are ambivalent, maybe exhausted, when it comes to the basketball team.
Both at this point
I’m not sure how much more of that I can watch. They need to get things turned around in a hurry.
I mean beating that vaunted basketball powerhouse Nebraska would be a first step. Or they can continue on their path to being irrelevant.
At least we have the Lady Bucks!
Sometimes saying nothing says everything
We are just waiting for Spring Football at this point.

until they get their heads out of their arses and start playing with a purpose, they don't deserve a mention

I hope this isn't the last we see of Babb at OSU. Maybe we'll see him back in another capacity at OSU down the road.
Weird how the guy who scores possibly one of the most improbable TDs ever in the playoffs, just happened to be mic'd up for the game...
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Hubbard seems like an obvious choice as a Cincinnati kid playing for his hometown team. I’m curious if they mic up more than one player per team per game.
Like it was mentioned, hometown kid plus it’s not likely he is going to say or do anything stupid. This is not a NFL conspiracy.
