I don't think his heart is totally with scum or else he wouldn't be interviewing for all these NFL jobs the last couple years.. it's called: he interviewed and didn't get the jobs so he has to stay put.

I agree with everything you said, but as long as he is kicking our ass, which he is, we don't really have the equity to shit on him. we blow em out in '23, let the gates open...

It’s the same every year. He leaks info that so and so NFL team is interested in him in hopes of generating buzz and an offer. Then, once it turns out no one wants him, he goes back to UM and claims he was never interested in the NFL in the first place.

He’s a liar and a scumbag.

Good.

Go Buckeyes.

Why on earth would this be good?  Harbaugh is a better coach than Ryan Day.   He's proven that.  He has far more experience and it shows.  The guys been a winner everywhere he's been. Harbaugh has flipped the rivalry now.  We were the kings of the B1G for many years, not any more.  Nothing good about him staying.   He'll continue to smack Day for as long as he's there.

Ugh, it pains me to give Harbaugh/Michigan compliments.  Puke.  But it's true.

HS
Hovenaut's picture

So is it Harbaugh or Day leaving that gives Ohio State a chance to right the ship?

I'll explain - no compliments given. I want Harbaugh and that program together when the wrongs are corrected.

At this time, Harbaugh leaving.  He’s winning and things are trending up there.  Not as much here.  Day can certainly get things turned around quickly but have to call the score what it is at the moment.

Disagree.... we gave GA everything they could handle in their own backyard with everything stacked against us even before the game began, and then more so when it did.

They got their hat handed to them by TCU, who promptly got thrashed by GA....

Yes if we play aggressively we  win the GAME, and I think a lesson was learned by the way we played against GA

Except football is a matchup game.  My opinion, but TTUN was built to beat us.  We were built to beat UGA/Bama.

HS

Agree!!  Come conference and CFP championship games, every team should be top notch and ready for the stiff competition.  I believe TCU earned their way to play in the CFP, they just didn’t play well in their final game, just as we didn’t play well in the conference championship.  We must be thoroughly prepped at the end of season.

HS
Hovenaut's picture

Agree, it's on Day at present - and I'm expecting him to affect the change(s) we're all hoping for.

I want Harbaugh back on the other side of the hill for my own fulfillment before he heads back to Sunday ball (I do think that's a given for him at some point).

HS
rkylet83's picture

It’s not good and I agree with some of your statements.  The idea that Harbaugh is somehow not a good coach was stupid 5 years ago and is today as well.  Michigan is the new #1 in the B1G.  I’m not sold that he’s got it in the bag, but it’s certainly not good that he’s still here.  Next year is going to be tough in AA and we might be dogs there for the first time since 2011.

HS
stpetebuck's picture

Ttun’s offense wobbled mightily in 5 of their their games. We did too in 3.5 games (counting penn state as half ) simply ,, our defense came far in Knowles first year but not far enough. And we over committed to stopping their run and didn’t adjust to the jj McCarthy deep game. Embarrassing.  Day/Knowles need to own that so we have a speedy recovery to beating their 3 star asses again. Our recruiting will depend on it.
Thanks god Day isn’t fishing the nfl every off season.
We have the better program by far and should have the defense to finally get the late November/ December match ups  figured out.
Finally, Our game v Georgia was a better indication of progress than the Rose Bowl last year imho. I can re watch 3.5 quarters of that game again and again.
Go Bucks

HS
UtahGetMeTwo's picture

The last 2 seasons has been the most successful for his current position, prior to that I would hardly say he was pictured as a "winner" at scUM.  He's what, 2-7 against his main rival? What's his record vs PSU and MSU?  Covid saved him from being fired in 2020.

HS
rkylet83's picture

He was pretty much Lloyd Carr outside of 1997 but not successful against Ohio State.  Lloyd also wasn’t facing the Ohio State teams Harbaugh was though either.  He pretty much had them where they’d been prior to Rich Rod.

HS
Parker Leo Blinsky's picture

Yep. He caught one of the luckiest breaks in history from COVID. If he had to play the full season in 2020 instead of being f able to pick and choose which opponents to duck, he would have been canned for sure.

HS
stantmann's picture

Harbaugh is basically John Cooper. 0-6 in bowl games, 2-6 vs the rival. Ryan just needs to get that defense figured out now and the ship will be righted.

HS
LessScarletMoreGray's picture

I do not believe a word he says about loyalty but it's fun to watch him say it. I kinda wanted him to leave because I think he's got the program dialed in to be a nemesis to us, and I think a new coach would have to take a couple of years to get the personnel he needs for his system.

HS
PIBbuckeye's picture

I feel the opposite. He definitely has the trajectory of the program moving upward, but I feared the right, young coaching hire could couple that with elite recruiting…Then it could be long term trouble for us.

I just don’t feel that way with Harbaugh there.

HS
Takemysnare79's picture

Unsure why anyone would want to play for him.  Of course most players choose a school because of the position coach they will be working with, more than the head coach.  I mean the state up north is even colder than Ohio.  Why anyone from down south would want to come up north for college football is beyond me.  At least from a WR's standpoint, he knows the NFL is a good possibility due to Hartline's coaching.

Maybe some year, while Hairball is still there, the Bucks can get back on the winning track.

HS
quiverfull's picture

Harbaugh has been a winner everywhere he's been including the NFL, unlike many other coaches.  His players come up to him during press conferences and tell him that they love him.  Can you possibly imagine that happening with Saban, for instance?  He gave his entire $2 million dollar bonus money to the U of M staff that was laid off or salary-reduced because of Covid.

And be candid, Michigan is one of the top Universities on the planet, so the degree means a lot.  Now that we are engaging in NIL in a more serious fashion, Michigan is trouble for virtually all CFB teams.

Like arrows in the hand of a mighty warrior, so are the children of one's youth. Happy is the man whose quiver is full, he shall not be afraid, but shall speak with the enemies at the gate.  Psalm 127

HS
IfNotBucksSparty's picture

Lol Bowl Game Jimmy just added the big12 runner up to his list of many failures, I'd be careful saying you're trouble for "virtually all CFB teams"

HS
quiverfull's picture

Many failures?  Just beat OSU, again.  Beat sparty, again.  Won the B10, again.  And not a cheater.

Was a winner as a player in high school, college (beat OSU a lot), and in the pros.  As a coach he's taken USD from nothing to the top of D-II.  Took Stanford from a joke to #4 and along the way accomplished the single biggest upset in D-I history, beating USC as a 45 pt. dog.  Took the Niners from nothing to 3 straight NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl.  And now he's made Michigan a winner.

So tell me, who has a resume like that?  Saban or Urban?  Not as players, never even sniffed the NFL.  As coaches? Of course did well in college with rampant cheating, but got their heads handed to them in the pros when the cheating wasn't available.

Like arrows in the hand of a mighty warrior, so are the children of one's youth. Happy is the man whose quiver is full, he shall not be afraid, but shall speak with the enemies at the gate.  Psalm 127

UM just suspended his co-offensive coordinator for "computer access crimes"...?  Matt Weiss, who came over to TTUN from the Baltimore Ravens, and also used to be on Jimmy's staff at Stanford.

It doesn't sound like it's directly on Harbaugh, but like the Zack Smith debacle, it will reflect on the program and give Harbaugh headaches.

More to follow, I'm sure, but whatever it is it involves the UM campus police and Weiss is under suspension.

HS
wittdooley's picture

Lololol.   Harbaugh has zero titles.  You’re Gonna try to compare him to them?   What a wild take.

HS
SalemBuckeye's picture

Besides 2 BIG championships what has Harbaugh actually won? Nothing. He lost the SB. He's lost every bowl game. He lost every college playoff game and he has a 2-5 record against his biggest rival. He was so successful that his employer cut his salary. He ran away from Ohio State in 2020. He's also under investigation for cheating with recruiting. He begs NFL teams every year to hire him and gets told no every year. Why would that happen with his amazing NFL record? Because he's a loon that destroys every relationship. This year with his supposed great team he harbaughed and choked against a Big 12 runner up that lost the nc by 1,000 points.

SalemBuckeye

HS

Quiverfull, to my chagrin all but one of your points is accurate. Regarding the biggest upset in D1 history, that title goes to I-AA Appalachian State beating #5 Michigan in the Big House. Sorry, I’m clinging to anything I can.

HS
Scarlet_Fire's picture

How's this for a resume comparison:

- Saban: 7 nattys, 1-0 vs. Harbaugh

- Meyer: 3 nattys, 4-0 vs. Harbaugh

- Harbaugh: 0 championships (CFB or NFL), 0-5 vs. Urban/Saban

The delusion of a *ichigan Man knows no bounds. And of course, in traditional fashion, the *ichigan Man has to throw in the usual "b-but cheating!!". I'm sure NO ONE saw that coming!

Harbaugh and Michigan are both so extremely pathetic.  Harbaugh because he can't find an NFL job despite his repeated best efforts and Michigan because they're willing to overlook the fact that Harbaugh absolutely does NOT want to be there and yet they won't tell him to fuck off for not being committed to the job.

HS

blu.fan's picture

I am not connected to the Michigan program. I have no information on what went on behind the scenes. However, I can easily believe that after the last two years, Harbaugh has a fair amount of leverage which he wanted to use to his advantage and the program's advantage. I have read, and could believe, that Harbaugh wants an increase in salaries for his coaching staff, wants more work done on NIL, wants Michigan to be able to accept more transfers (in terms of the admissions department hurdles Michigan faces,) and wants to know he has the administration's backing with the NCAA.

I feel better about Michigan's program than I've felt in many years. I think Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Florida, Auburn, Clemson, OSU and several other schools have significant institutional advantages over Michigan. Because of that, I think it is virtually impossible for Michigan to find and retain a better coach who is a better fit than Harbaugh is at Michigan.

HS
Steel City Buckeye's picture

Hairball is the perfect coach for TTUN.  The fact that he is arrogant enough to go fishing for any NFL job and come back demanding a raise is a classic “Michigan Man” move.

Harbaugh wants five players from MSU jailed with felony assault charges. Harbaugh wants to play an antisemitic by giving him the penance of having him visit a Holocaust center sometime in 2023. Harbaugh wants the county prosecutor to dismiss charges against one of his team captains who admitted to violating Michigans conceal carry law. Harbaugh wants no consequences for said player and therefore played him in end of season games and post season games.

HS

Harbaugh wants Buckeyeupnorth to simmer down a bit.  To wit, Coach Harbaugh asked me to respond for him:

1. All East Landfill A & M folks are felons, or suspected felons, or will be felons, or are felons in their thoughts if not deeds.

2.  He will visit, but first he has to finish his team punishment of wind sprints.  I hear he's still doing them at Satellite Field, and his family really missed him at Christmas.

3.  Mr. Smith was simply exercising his Second Amendment right without his government paperwork that was in processing anyway as it was.

4.  See #3.  I also heard that no one died nor did he brandish his iron so there was no further reason to suspend him.

What admissions "hurdles" could athletes possibly face at UM?  Desmond Howard was not only admitted to UM, he graduated.  If Desmond has a triple-digit IQ I'll eat a shoe.  They're willing to let pretty much anyone (*cough* Juwan Howard *cough* Mazi Smith) come to UM and stay as long as it suits their purposes.  This narrative that UM is nearly impossible to get into is a joke, especially for scholarship athletes.

HS

^Even their current HC said as much when he was at Stanford.

HS
CincyBuck's picture

Think I largely agree.

do think he's legitimately wanted to move to the NFL the last two offseasons.  But he hasn't had any takers.  Based on everything I've seen and heard the last couple of years, it seems openly accepted that he can be more than a bit awkward/jarring/off-putting if you don't already know him well.  I suspect that can be a hard sell when it's been several years since he was in the NFL and there are always several qualified candidates to be NFL HCs.

I also don't blame him: think being an NFL HC would be more appealing than college in this current environment.  And I think his strengths probably most closely align with an NFL HC role.

Though I can't say I'd be too thrilled if I were Michigan about his public solicitation of job offers every offseason.  Think that's probably already gotten old for all involved.

Completely unrelated note: I didn't know Ono was UM's Prez.  He used to be the head to Cincinnati.  Always seemed like a nice, capable guy.

HS
SalemBuckeye's picture

I think Harbaugh has zero leverage and has totally misplayed his very recent success. By threatening to leave the last 2 years with NFL teams collectively saying no thanks, Harbaugh has destroyed his only bargaining chip. Horribly played by him.

I think some of Harbaugh's biggest enemies are within the Michigan system itself.  I think some of these power-plays are to keep them in line, to the benefit of the football program.

He's a goofball but he's managed to develop talent the last few years. Embarrassing losing to them 2 years in a row with the talent disparity. OSU was #2 in blue chip ratio and UM was #12. Also, curious to see what penalties NCAA will impose on him for lying to them.

HS
quiverfull's picture

I think the NCAA is ticked he told them to go urinate up a rope when they tried to talk with him about a $10 tip for some cheeseburgers, meanwhile programs like OSU's (tatoos, cars, jewelry, cash, lying coaches),  UNC (18 years of academic fraud), Arizona and Kentucky (coaches caught on tape buying players) and the entire SEC get virtually nothing despite horrendous 'records'.

No wonder he told them to get the blank out of his office.

Like arrows in the hand of a mighty warrior, so are the children of one's youth. Happy is the man whose quiver is full, he shall not be afraid, but shall speak with the enemies at the gate.  Psalm 127

HS
Eph97's picture

All he had do was tell the truth. Everything you accuse of OSU doing would be "legal" in the NCAA's eyes now (btw, got proof?). Tressel got the heat from the NCAA because he lied to them. Nowhere does it say in the NCAA guidelines and rules that what a coach lies about matters. As long as a coach lies to an investigator that coach is deemed to have commit a "sin" in the NCAA's eyes.

HS
quiverfull's picture

He didn't lie.  He told them to leave and said, in effect, 'When you start enforcing the rules against schools like OSU, the SEC, etc, then we can talk about my $10 tip'.   Seems about right.

You guys have to be crazy not to understand what is going on here, he was asked and accepted a pay cut after the 2020 season, that last two years he has won the BIG, made the playoffs and beat us pretty handily, he has all the leverage here and is posturing for his money back, does he want to be back in the NFL most likely but not this year not with the team they have coming back next year, I would say they will probably start the season ranked 2nd and will be favored in every game they play. If he wins the championship next year would be the year he takes off.

HS

That's a good analogy, Nap......Hairball is a Michigan Man and he idolizes Bo.  He wants to have a long, successful career, like his idol.  All these forays into the NFL build his warped ego and reinforce to him that he is an elite coach who is wanted by the pros.  Blake Corum re-upping for 2023 was a sign that Crazy Jimmy is going to stay around.

It's telling that he mentioned President Ono but not the AD, Warde Manuel. He and Warde have been at odds the last couple of weeks. I will post the link later once I find it.

HS
Floyd Stahl's picture

Unfortunately, I can't find it, but basically they told him they were going to make him one of the highest paid coaches in the B1Gc at 9M+/year, but after the NCAA allegations against him and the program came out, Manuel was hesitant and lowered the offer to somewhere in the $7M range. Harbaugh was not happy and felt unwanted, and it wasn't until President Ono stepped in and intervened and said to pay him what he's worth that Harbaugh was appeased and reconsidered about staying.

HS

Harbaugh negotiated a new five year contract last year that moved him back to $7M and included performance bonuses. His contract as a state employee is reviewed and approved by U of M board of Reagents who are elected by the citizenry of Michigan. The president can’t just say “pay him what he wants”

Didn't he say, about this time last year, he was done looking at the NFL?

HS
Buckeyeman17's picture

I may be in the minority, but I was hoping to see him go. He’s not a great coach, but his brother is supplying him with NFL assistants, which is causing the team to play much better.
Unless there are a plethora of injuries in key positions for SCUM, I see Ryan Day going 1-3 against them.

HS
BUCKEYEYANKEE's picture

@Buckeyeman17, Johnny Harbaugh carries Jimmy Harbaugh with his coaches. Day and staff need to get better with the red zone offense. Defense needs to eliminate half of those big plays down to 2-3 a game. Knowles philosophy allowing 5 to 7 big plays a game doesn't work against a good to great team. Ann Arbor will be a pain the arse to play next season. This might be a difficult year rebuilding the offensive line and new quarterbacks starting for this team. Buckeyes might need a more mobile QB next season to be successful.

Right there with you, Day is going to be an underdog in that game next year and we will see what he can come up with in that scenario, I will have to see a lot more from the coaching staff than what I saw this year.

He's a good coach.  He's flipped the rivalry and is smacking Ryan Day around every chance he gets.

I remember when Harbaugh was at Stanford, he'd give Pete Carrol's uber talented USC teams loaded with 5-star recruits fits.  He'd beat them often with inferior talent.  Then he took a team to the super bowl.  Yeah, he has experience and is a good coach.  As much as it pains me to admit this.

Downvote the truth away!   Go for it!

It was reported earlier in the offseason that Jimmy's representatives were reaching out to NFL teams with HC openings requesting an interview.

Carolina was on record telling Jimmy thanks but no thanks.  As were the Vikings last year.

He didn't even get farther than the first round phone interview with Denver this year.

It seems the other NFL teams didn't even give him an interview.

Now he saying that he decided to stay with scUM.  LOL, the guy couldn't get an NFL job again so he's still stuck there.

As an OSU fan this is great entertainment.  I can't imagine how humiliating it must be to be a fan of that team though.

We are confident enough to let Jimmy go out and talk to other girls, but we know he'll be back.

Jimmy is a simple man who just wants his contract made right, which our new University president is making happen in short order.  Santa Ono is the first University president we've had in my living memory who understands the importance of having a successful football team for the overall welfare and image of the University.

Using your analogy, I do believe that the only reason Jimmy was only talking and not screwing was because the girls laughed him right out of the bar.

Or to put it in more plain and proper terms, it clearly hasn’t been his choice.

Browns fans are probably fortunate that they haven’t had a HC job opening yet while Jimmy has been stumping for an NFL gig.

Their owner has the right combination of high desperation and low IQ that it requires to hire a coach like Jimmy in the NFL.  I could definitely see Haslem making a move like that just like he did with drafting Johnny Football.

There’s a good chance that this will be the last year for Kevin Stefanski In Cleveland so I wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy didn’t end up with the Browns in 2024.   That franchise has been a horrible mess for 20+ years but Harbaugh would probably happily accept it just to be out of Ann Arbor

HS
MaineStrength's picture

Harbaugh informed Michigan president Santa Ono on Monday afternoon that he will remain with the Wolverines.

It seems odd to me that JH called Ono rather than AD Warde Manuel.  There was also some scuttlebutt about donors wanting to create an open NIL pool to be spread about the football program and Manuel balked at it.  I am beginning to get the sense there is a bit of a disagreement between JH & Manuel about how to best move forward with with the changing landscape of CFB.  I'm guessing in the near future of these two will need to move on.  If Manuel is holding back NIL, my hope is he doesn't stay at UM because it will severely hurt recruiting as time goes on.   Then again, I'd also have to believe that NIL helped get back Corum, Zinter, Keegan, etc. for their senior year's.  It's a weird world in CFB these days.

That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

I genuinely do not understand people's happiness at seeing this news. He's clearly a good coach and has turned their program around in the last 2 years. They've beaten us twice in a row and have won the B1G twice in a row. They have consistently dominant O-line and RB play. The players love playing for him. Their recruiting isn't elite, but they certainly develop guys well. He's outcoached us in-game the last two years. Why on earth would we want him to stay? I want revenge against him just like all of you, but more than that I want to win. And Harbaugh staying makes that less likely. What am I missing here?

Turned what around? Dominant Rb and Line Play? We saw against TCU this year and Sparty last year that they are the same old Michigan! If they can out physical you they can beat you! For goodness sake they should have lost to Illinois at home had the officials not bailed them out. Did you ever think that maybe Ryan Day needs to start playing Ohio State Football? And start putting a Physical Defense back on the  field? Day Lost to Michigan because he allowed them to play their brand of game and we looked weak! Hairball hasn’t changed Ohio State has and now we are scared!!

HS
Zeke's Abs's picture

If you can't see how he has elevated their program, I don't know what to tell you.

Let's compare the 7 years Harbaugh has been there (excluding the COVID year) with the 7 previous years:

Average wins per year under Harbaugh: 10.3

Average wins per year under Hoke/RichRod: 6.5

Big Ten titles under Harbaugh: 2

Big Ten titles under Hoke/RichRod: 0

Wins against Ohio State under Harbaugh: 2

Wins against Ohio State under Hoke/RichRod: 1 (Fickell year)

Season finishes in the AP Top 25 under Harbaugh: 6

Season finishes in the AP Top 25 under Hoke/RichRod: 2

Now, I still think we should have beaten them this year, but stop pretending this is the "same old Michigan." It's not. They're better.

I think it's possible he may have just done the whole flirting with the NFL thing to bargain for an assurance from the University that he wouldn't be facing any University initiated penalties or punishments on top of whatever the NCAA does.

I think that scum will back hairball to the max on any of these violations. They now have to. It will be deny, deny and minimize until the NCAA just says "naughty boy" and don't do it again.
