Even after a full season I still can't completely nail down this team. The talent is there, we have an excellent staff, and that loss to Michigan wasn't nearly as bad as the score indicated. Is Georgia better than Michigan? Probably. But I'd still take our best effort over anyone's. The one group I'd love to see take on that villain persona is the OL. Bulldoze on run plays and be a wall on pass plays and we win this game.

To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.

This Buckeye squad had flashed at times this season but they have not played a clean and complete game on both sides of the ball. RD should make a point to the team and have them video him shaving his beard off in the lead up to Saturday night with the message being clear.
Go Bucks!

Without winners there wouldn't be any gosh darn civilization. We make no apologies for winning or for aiming our entire program toward that goal. - Woody Hayes

Happy Hump Day Dubbers! Onward and upward, we have a few more anxious days until Saturday. Georgia is totally beatable, if the Buckeyes show up! Bucks 34-27.

The goal is set. The path to that goal goes through Georgia. The solution is simple: Score more points than Georgia.

We shall see how well this team prepared for this game, if we see similar results as the TTUN game, then I'd say there's an underlying issue somewhere.. as long as we execute at every level, every snap, we have a chance..if we don't, well then I expect similar results..

Just feels so much like the 02 NC Game vs the 2 year defeated and defending NC Canes.

The Canes were just blowing out everyone w no perceived weakness.

Shtinkycat1's picture

Until the Michigan game Ohio State won all their games by double digits. Contrary to the box score, Ohio State looked like they could have beaten Michigan. Georgia has looked beatable at times this year. Ohio State is capable of winning the game, I just don’t know what team is going to show up. I get more of the 2015 team vibes, so much talent wasted on bad play calling in the MSU game. That team showed up in their bowl game and played well. Hopefully the same will happen.

We have 3 very good running backs. Use them all. Wear down the Dawgs. If they commit to stop the run, pass them silly. We've got the players to do this.

I'm not trying to win a popularity contest. I'm trying to win football games-- Woody Hayes

HS
Shtinkycat1's picture

Georgia is the best in the country at stopping the run. Their offense, while statistically is ranked high, benefits from having a defensive that gets a lot a short stops, allowing the offense lots of opportunities. Ohio State will need to keep the ball in order to have a chance. I’m curious as to how Ohio State, built to pass first, is going to wear down running on the best run defense in the country? I agree on the passing silly, that will open the run.

Shatinkycat1

HS
bull1214's picture

You have to run on them early when they try to stop the run with 5-6 in the box. Do that and they can’t focus on stopping the pass. Advantage us.

HS
Sunny Buck's picture

My argument, right or wrong, is that the B1G had better rushing offenses to contend with than the SEC. Georgia's defensive statistics just might be overinflated. My question is, did the Dawgs have to face an offense with the talent and depth at RB that OSU possesses? I think not. We have a trio of very good backs. Use them all and make them stop us.

I'm not trying to win a popularity contest. I'm trying to win football games-- Woody Hayes

HS
cinserious's picture

True fundamental football has always been to establish the run 1st, if we have to 'sell-out' to do so, we should. Then use play-action, and sprinkle in some qb runs, TE plays, Rb flats, etc. But passing to set up the run is a backwards mentality and honestly a 'soft', finesse look. If we get clobbered by Georgia's defense repeatedly, then pass all over the place.

Sunny Buck's picture

There you go. Great points.

HS
Shtinkycat1's picture

That’s the exact philosophy Coach Smart has developed the Georgia defense around. Control the line of scrimmage, stop the run, and force teams to pass. Georgia gambles and assumes risk in their pass defense. They are the best in college football at stopping the run and there isn’t a close second.  Eventually most teams will make mistakes passing because they don’t have the passing talent to match Georgia’s defensive. The last loss Georgia had was to Alabama in the SEC championship game last year. Alabama had over 400 yards passing, but their RBs had less than 100 yards rushing. Ohio State has the best collection of passing talent in college football, it’s what the team is built on. Trying to force the run in hopes of opening the passing game, that is already open based on Georgia’s defensive scheme, is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Shatinkycat1

HS
cinserious's picture

Well if that's the case, then bombs away. Can't afford dumb shit false start penalties, dropped passes, miscommunication on routes, etc. Also, Ryan Day needs to coach a flawless game and C.J. needs to not force throws into double/triple teams and actually run if they give give him lanes but be quick and decisive about it. If/ when Muschamp decides to change up defensive scheme, then run it down their throats and eat clock.

Things I see in the tweet from OSU: Egbuka returning a punt - Buckeyes must believe the D can force Georgia to punt. Good.

Josh Proctor returning an int. Sshhh...

CJ wearing a black jersey which means they don't think he'll even be touched by the Georgia D. OR they're saving him for the game, ie run?

Dallan Haden running thru a wide open hole. Icing the game in the 4th quarter against a gassed Dawg D?

I don’t personally know Will Muschamp, but you can easily make the case he is a failed head coach with a bad temper and a big ego just from observing him through the years.

He certainly knows his defenses, but I hope massive frustration spills over him when the Buckeye O makes some big plays Saturday.

Don't know if we'll win, but I love harnessing the underdog role. I'm just hoping UGA comes in as overconfident as we are motivated, and gets a big surprise when we hit the shit out of them early and often after being told tOSU is charmin for the last month. That said it's going to be a 4 quarter game, and it can't get here soon enough.

Time to “mask up”?  What the hell does that even mean in this context? Every time he opens his mouth, he tries to be so in command and cool but what comes out is a poorly timed cliche, excuse, or blame. (Here come the down votes.)

HS
b01000100's picture

Look, I don't have any crayons right now to draw this out for you, but think about what football players put on their heads every time they go in for a play.  Now, after you get that nailed down, try to think about the parts of that thing they put on their head.  Are there any parts of what they put on their heads that contain the word "mask" in them?

Come on, we know you have it in you to figure it out!  We're cheering for you!

HS
bull1214's picture

Good description but I think we might still need the crayons if possible

HS
RUNTOWIN's picture

Are you proud to win the asshole of the day award? In 15 years of playing and 15 years of coaching, I’ve never heard “mask up”.  Must be a new one. I have encountered plenty of assholes like you though. Never cared for any of them and I’m sure you’re not worth a damn either. So fuck off.

HS
b01000100's picture

Are you an 18-22 year old kid right now?  Perhaps the lingo has changed a bit since you played, and maybe you don't pay enough attention to players to hear them use words in ways you weren't expecting.  Maybe the times we live in have ushered in new ways of using different terms.

Wait, let me help you with your argument, "Well, I'm a coach right now, and I've never heard the term."  Sure, but are you a coach for the Buckeyes?  Are you around the team every day to hear how they talk to each other and how they use certain words?  Moreover, do your players have to face reporters constantly over the course of the season and then have grown men shit on their answers after the fact?

HS
RUNTOWIN's picture

Sorry Mrs Stroud, to have offended your son. There was a bigger point to my original comment about Stroud when he addresses the media. But you were too busy dreaming up an attempt at well crafted sarcasm with crayons to get it. It’s not really about “mask up” (which I seem to remember plastered everywhere during Covid). It’s that he tries to talk big but comes across more like Shooter McGaven with poor cliches and finger pointing. A couple days ago he was saying something about “that’s for you people on the outside” (or something like that). Which is a dismissive comment made because he doesn’t like criticism from fans or anyone else. He panics. That’s a worry.  Take care.

Talk about Branham in the Skull Session but no love for Duane Washington Jr. He dropped in 26 points and 8 assists for the Phoenix Suns last night.

HS

My Skull Session was "in the bank," and I was fast asleep in bed by the time Washington's career night ended around 11 p.m. EST, so I apologize for not referencing him in the Skully. However, I did post something about his 26-point, 8-assist performance against the Grizzlies in the forum if you want to check that out.

Thanks for the response, Chase. No need for me to check out his night as I watched it. Just wanted him to get a little love too!

By the way, love your approach to writing the Skull Session. Great to see other Buckeye athletes getting some love.

I don't doubt a committed CJ Stroud, *IF* he decides to run that rock forward for yardage.

I *DO* doubt CJ Stroud *IF* he doesn't run and carry that ball a few times to give some wrinkles.

I don't doubt the rest of offense. Something tells me that MH is getting the rest of Zone 6 ready, and Wypler looks like he's ready to tear heads off.

As for defense? I need to see which secondary we get. Is it the Silver Bullets, or is it the guys watching the game from the field? I don't doubt Tommy Two-Thumbs, nor do I doubt our D Line.

Coaching? Strange to say this, but I am not sweating what HC Day is cooking up. I bet he's ready to show something that is essentially "kitchen sink". And Knowles? Smart man. I doubt he forgets to adjust during this game.

Another one and done player.  How well has that worked for Ohio State?  Not one sweet sixteen appearance in how many years?

Sorry. I would rather develop players that stay around for 3 or 4 years to help formulate a team that can be successful.

HS
Chase Brown's picture

I agree, which is why I put that last part in there about Branham's one-and-done success not helping Ohio State but being great for him individually. Hopefully, if he does end up being one-and-done, Sensabaugh can leave after having more of an impact on the team's success in the Big Ten and NCAA Tournaments.
