Solid song of the day. I enjoy how you tie the SOTD back to your content. I’ve got one black Ohio State shirt. I guess my wardrobe has been determined for me. That was easy.
My games to keep an eye on: 7 USC @ Oregon State, 15 Oregon @ Washington State, Minnesota @ Michigan State, and, of course, everyone’s favorite, Iowa @ Rutgers. Oregon State could be sneaky good playing USC at home. Oregon will be a good chance to see how good WSU is, which best Wisconsin in the road and has USC in two weeks. I don’t think MSU is all that good but for Minnesota to have a shot at Indianapolis, the Gophers have to at least be better than the East’s fourth or fifth best team. And I’ve got Rutgers beating Iowa, 17-10.
Enjoy the day, own the night. Let’s go Bucks!

I am curious to see what Maryland can do against ttun. Hoping they can keep it close to start removing some of that false veneer of invincibility that the delusional people up north have right now.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
UMD at least has a pulse but I’m not expecting a miracle. They’ll still get their asses kicked but with an offense similar to ours, hopefully the Twerps will provide some insight into Michigan’s defensive vulnerabilities.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
IB, I honestly do not think it would take a miracle for Maryland to win today. They are as talented if not more so on the offensive side of the ball. Michigan's defense has not been tested. While I am not going as far as to call the upset, I will say it will be decided in the last couple possessions.
Except that’s Iowa’s song. The Hawkeyes take the field to it. Iowa and Virginia Tech have never played—who wouldn’t want to see a pregame battle of the bands faceoff between Back in Black and Enter Sandman?

With a microbrewery on every corner, I am not sure how one finds a need to make craft beer more "accessible". Oh, I have two ideas. Lower the price, as the going rate for a pint has grown from 4 to 5 to 6 to 7 bucks, it creates a price-demand curve decline that may appear to make it less accessible. Finally, and I know lager beer is a much tougher product to perfect and that a figurative metric shit ton of hops covers many imperfections, a few more breweries practicing the art of great lager brewing.
I have checked in 675 beers on my untapped and I am lazy about checking in new beers and thus access has not been an issue. I do find going into a brewery and wading through 4 or 5 IPA offerings, a handful of sours and saison's tells me the more traditional ales and lagers will not be great products or of much interest to the brewer.
When traveling and i come across a great brewery specializing in lagers, I do rather enjoy the experience.
I know everyone has different tastes and many folks pride themselves on being IPA only drinkers and wear it as a badge of honor. Good on you and keep tipping them.
On Tap in my kegerator is currently fifty liters of goodness known as Paulaner Maerzen Bier and I do love the Muenchen breweries. They may be macro in the biggest sense of the word, but very few micros can touch them for consistent quality and great products.
Oh by the way, be nice to Wisconsin fans visiting, they are great practicioners of the art of drinking and will be suffering a football setback.
If you're ever between Coshocton and Newcomerstown OH, and you're wanting a damn fine lager, stop in at Wooly Pig Brewery right off of St Rt 36. It's run by a small family dedicated to conservation and beer done right. The water comes from a spring on the farm, the hops are grown right there, and the brewmaster studied in Munich.
On to football....
You know what doesn't get easily dumped? Three pounds of Wisconsin cheese curds. Luckily the Bucks are on an all Badger diet this week, and Badger is a lean meat
Ohio State 45, Wisconsin 13
To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.
Wooly pig is a cool place I’ve been to a couple times. I’m not the lager expert guy tho. I love Guinness so I use that as the measuring stick and few compare favorably.
Czech, I’m in agreement on the overabundance of IPAs. Give me a great lager, Pilsner or Kolsch in the summer. Thankfully, Rheingeist provides a few of those, as do a some of the microbrewers in the area. Seventh Son has some very nice beers, if you’re in Columbus.
I hate to rain on anyone’s parade but I’d rather drink piss than an IPA. I just don’t get it.
Years ago, before the microbrewery craze took over, my wife and I went to a local bar that had a beer menu with over 200 different brands on tap. It cracked us up to see the local swill we’d grown up drinking (Hudepohl for me and Utica Club for her) on the list as if they were exotic imports.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
Imagine my surprise when I saw PBR listed on a “tap list”, and it was priced well above the 24-pack price I recall from my Ensign days. The hipsters made it popular again. Not unlike when Rolling Rock went from a cheap regional beer to some national craze in the 90’s.
I’ll be really impressed when someone starts serving the large “campaign bottles” of Little Kings Cream Ale. I’ll grab a bunch of HS buddies and we’ll clean the place out.
I read an article years ago I think in the SF Chronicle entitled "Let's Stop Pretending We Like IPAs".
Couldn't have been more on point.
And like Czech said, most "microbrewers" twist their unfixable mistakes into "yeah, we meant to do that". Show me a microbrewery that makes a LIGHT beer...it's hard to hide mistakes in lagers and damn near impossible to hide them in a light beer.
If you ever find yourselves in south west Illinois around St. Louis you should try Stag beer. It used to be brewed local and has a cult like following. It’s usually rednecks and old black guys that drink it. My go-to beer!
When we lived in Covington we often bicycled over the bridge to Rheingeist and moerlein and enjoy a good beer. Wunder Bar in Covington is also a place we miss
Yeah, companies/corporations now love to charge a gazillion dollars for something but then blather on and on about their commitments to accessibility and equity.
The debates about lagers/pilsners versus IPAs/chocolate stouts/fruity ale concoctions/etc. reminds me of the light roast versus dark roars coffee debates. The light roasters argue that dark roasting can be used to hide low quality beans/roasting imperfections as well. I agree that “dark roast” shortcuts are prevalent, but I still love dark roasts.
P.s. how well does the Paulaner keg hold up on its trip across the Atlantic to your fridge?
The "grungy" look is a result of all the black pellets spread out over the field. Seems as if there is an inordinate amount on the field, but what do I know?
Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game. -- Michael Jordan
I tend to think of it as a “distressed” look like pre-washed and torn jeans or a t-shirt with faded graphics so that it doesn’t look brand new or a new coffee table that someone best with a hammer so that it looks old and weathered.

Pretty typical for band new turf fields. Until the rubber pellets settle or get compacted from use, it’ll have that grainy look. Then it will develop low spots, and the groundskeepers will fill back in periodically with fresh pellets

On offense, use the whole field, avoid penalties, and watch the LBs for blitzes or mismatches. Score early and often—Wisconsin doesn’t have the horses to catch up but the longer they stay in it, the better they’re odds are. They want to turn it into a street fight. OSU’s toughness will be tested.
