Call me crazy, but I’m picking the Bucks to win. I think they’ll eke out a hotly contested game at about 63-10. I’m going to need a few beers to calm my nerves.

You may be the first to call me crazy today, but you’ll have to get to the back of a long line of those who proclaimed the same sentiments previously.
Go Bucks, beat the scarlet Knights!

Looking for an outstanding game from our defense today. Henderson and Williams should get a lot of work. I like old Schiano, Bonjovi muh... not so much. Go Bucks!

TBH I expect the passing game to jump all over the Rutgers D (as per usual) and Miyan and TH to have a relatively light day to keep them healthy. Around 20 touches combined. But I've been wrong before.

Bottle up Cruickshank for the ninth straight season and the Bucks should be fine. I'm looking for the D to keep improving, the offense to do what it usually does against Jersey State, and, most of all, a healthy OSU on the other side. Hayden goes over 100 because Trey and Chop hit their centuries in the 3Q. I'll take Da Bears with Ditka driving the team bus, 112-3 in a close one.

More realistically, it would great to just see the team play at their level for four quarters with no lapses, especially on D. I don't think it will be a problem: 56-14 with about 325 through the air and 275 on the ground.

Navy travels to C Springs to take on the Zoomies of the Chair Force Academy at noon on CBS. That’s what we’ll be watching.

USAFA features the only offense averaging over 300 yds rushing per game…in fact, they’re the only offense that’s averaging over 400 yds rushing per game. Navy has struggled out of the gate, but pulled out a gritty, double OT win last weekend. Historically the Mids don’t perform well at the high elevation of C Springs, so we could be in for a long afternoon.

The Falcons are 14 point favorites at home, but they haven’t won four straight over the Mids since 2002. Throw out the records; I think Navy steers themselves back on course and pull out a nice win today.

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The United States Air Force Academy’s football program was put on a two-year probation and issued other penalties by the NCAA for recruiting violations committed during COVID-19 dead periods.

The NCAA said Air Force, along with four individuals in connection to the alleged violations reached an agreement with NCAA enforcement staff on appropriate penalties.

Will be watching as well, Navy. Any insight on whether Ken N. can get it turned around in Annapolis? The Mids were so solid for so long under him, but the last few seasons have been rough, save for the big upset W last season. I know there was some craziness with the AD there going behind Ken N's back and forcing Ken to fire his OC, only to rehire him to a different position, or something of that sort? How about just let the man coach? I like it when the Academies are good. I also wonder if, with the constant realignment, if all 3 will just end up going independent.

I think the Buckeyes likely to jump out to a big lead. I can not decide if they then try and shorten the game with milking the clock and running the ball or just continue to practice running their offense and score what they score. I guess it might depend on the weather. I will be looking for Rossi on another fullback dive or two today.

Other games to watch (besides the obvious matchups):

  • Indiana @ Nebraska (-5.5): I don’t think Indiana's as good as its 3-1 record (two of its three wins were both by three points) nor is Nebraska as bad as its 1-3 record (two of its three losses were both by three points). Vegas agrees.
  • 2-2 WVU @ 2-2 Texas (-9): both teams are 0-1 in the Big XII. Loser falls deeper into the abyss.
  • 3-1 ATM @ 3-1 Mississippi State (-4): there are no easy games in the SEC West. Its last place team would pulverize the B1G East’s last place team. Vegas favors the Bulldogs.
  • 2-2 Michigan State @ 3-1 Maryland (-7.5): Both teams are coming off losses (MSU has lost two straight). If UMD can stop shooting itself in the foot, it should win this, MSU will fall to 2-3, and people will start calculating how much MSU is overpaying Mel Tucker for each loss.
  • 3-1 Iowa State (-3.5) @ 4-0 Kansas: what does a sellout crowd look like at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium? We might find out today. Points to anyone who actually knew that was the name of the Jayhawks’ stadium.

HS
acBuckeye's picture

I'd guess Tom Allen will be the next B1G coach to get fired. He's taken what Wilson built and driven it into the ground. I don't count 2020 because..... yeah.

Sparty was waaaaaaaay ahead of schedule last season, so now their supporters have prematurely raised the floor of that program. Again, I don't count 2020, but this is more like the realistic path they were due when Mel took over. But I also understand the contract they gave him. We will see if it was ultimately worth it. I'm fine with other B1G programs actually trying, unlike Iowa.

May Kansas go 12-0. I'm all for it.

Every living OSU fan has a winning record against TTUN.

HS
Run_Fido_Run's picture

Tom Allen is like the guy who is made the general manager of a business after working with all the guys on the factory floor. He is a rah, rah leader and, at first, the men love him. But, eventually, needed supplies aren’t showing up on time and the paychecks are behind schedule.

HS
Run_Fido_Run's picture

3-1 ATM @ 3-1 Mississippi State (-4): there are no easy games in the SEC West. Its last place team would pulverize the B1G East’s last place team.

Going into the season, I would have agreed, but Auburn is pretty bad. Auburn probably defeats either Indiana, MSU, or Rutgers, but they wouldn’t pulverize them.

HS
Chase Brown's picture

It is very possible that Michigan State can finish this season at or around .500 if it loses to Maryland today. Sparty still has Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan left on the schedule and already has two losses, so that doesn't bode well for them. 6-6 would be a tough pill to swallow after handing $95 million to your head coach.

I suspect it is a bit of hangover from the steroid era. I get the sense they want to play this up as being "more legit" and in some respects not a mere AL only record. Maybe also just trying to pump up some interest in MLB overall heading into the postseason.

"Revenge is a dish best served cold." - Old Klingon proverb

HS

It's because Aaron Judge is a massive human being having an MVP season who also wears pinstripes. Any other player and any other team and it wouldn't be that significant, IMO.

I think it’s the fact the Judge would be the first (presumably) clean person to pass 61.

It’s because it’s something that hasn’t been done in 61 years in a major sport.

Listening to Phil Collins Inside Out on repeat to drown out my inside voice singing "take my hand we'll make it I swear"

Phil Collins had more appearances and more songs played on Miami Vice than Bon Jovi.

No Jacket Required won album of the year, Bon Jovi has never had an album of the year.

Phil Collins has sold 150 million records compared to Bon Jovi's 120 million

Phil Collins is superior to Bon Jovi

Lost track after listening to Inside Out 12 times in a row putting this "Phil Collins rules your face Bon Jovi" rant together. I did some research, don't you know people, to make certain I had my facts right.

But Bon Jovi is from New Jersey.

The second-to-last time Rutgers played in Columbus, Tate Martell had a magical performance, completing 10 of 10 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.

I was at that 10/10 game. What a miserable day: it literally rained all day.

UCLA beat Washington last night, 40-32, behind Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who people may not know or have forgotten was the guy who followed Martell at QB at Las Vegas Bishop Gorman. He committed to UCLA before he ever started a high school game. DTR was ranked higher than Martell and has obviously had a much better college career.

That 2020 Rutgers game seems like it was 10 years ago. The pandemic was a decade crammed in 2 years. We have a completely different team now.

HS
acBuckeye's picture

The more time that passes, the more obvious this becomes: the 2020 season in the B1G hampered the top teams in the league, and greatly benefited the bottom feeders of the conference. It was a complete fluke of a season, and OSU's immense talent allowed it to still reach the CFP final. Fuck Dabo and fuck the scaredy-weasels.

My guess is that Rutgers is going to throw everything AND the kitchen sink at the Buckeyes and play like they have nothing to lose... If they line up and run a base offense with no trickery and don't take any chances on 4th downs and maybe even unexpected on-side kicks they're going to get smoked all the way back to Jersey.

The Buckeyes are a perfect 8-0 against the Scarlet Knights, outscoring them 428-88

Today if the Buckeyes reach 72 and hold the Scarlet O'Haras below 12, the series total would reach 500-99 at worst. So, making the call at 72-10.

HS
Chase Brown's picture

Seems reasonable to me.

Little Mikey's picture

Look at the NFL standings. I think one team with no losses and one team with no wins. They have figured out parity in the NFL and it’s not literally true but damn close to true that any team could pull it together and go from last to first and any other team could have some bad luck and injuries and go from first to last.

But in college even though there are 85 scholarships parity isn’t even attempted. We are shocked that Kansas can be 4-0 but they have uniforms and shoulder pads and everything.

My point for today- Rutgers won’t win the league in my lifetime, nor will Maryland, nor Indiana. And while Minnesota is looking sharp they haven’t been to a Rose Bowl since the 1940s. It’s great to root for a winner BUT every now and again I wish the bottom of the league could lift up and play some better quality games.
I have no idea how to bring about any level of parity but they have figured it out in the NFL and I just fear with NIL that the separation of the haves and the also rans is going to get bigger. Whether that is sustainable is unknown. We won’t solve that problem today but Go Buckeyes.

Michael

HS
