It’s good for the team to know this history because they have broken our hearts a few times. And because of this history and their competitive but not arrogant nature (like their big in-state brother) - I always have a healthy respect for the Green and White.
People too young for the '98 game have no idea what that was like. If you are under 35, let me just say that the '98 team was the best Ohio State team I have ever seen. And that game was it for coach Cooper - he turtled in that game, it cost us a natty, and I never forgave him.
‘98 was the worst, because there were absolutely no excuses. The team was healthy; the opponent was mediocre; the weather was fine; and the Buckeyes had a 15 point lead.
I was 13 years old with my dad at that game. Saddest I think I’ve ever been after a game. Took me to Kahiki and there’s a picture of me trying to smile through the pain.
I looked at that picture everytime Ohio State fans tried to convince me to root for Sparty against Bama in the playoffs

I asked Mrs. BuckeyeRy which MSU loss was the worst. She said the name of the little boy we were babysitting while watching that game in 1998. That's how scarring that loss was.

My wife was pregnant prior to the season start so while I was home waiting for our little Buckeye to arrive I carved a 3 foot high #1, painted Go Bucks on it, and put it on my roof where I vowed to leave it as long as we remained #1. When I returned home from our alumni club game watch (we lived in Ft Lauderdale at the time and the Bru's Room was an awesome game watch location) I climbed up on the roof and tossed that #1 off. I was devastated, ugh. I cannot watch those "highlights". Not today, not ever. Today is a new days and we're here to whip some Sparty ass! Go Bucks!

It was painful to watch that video clip of all the lowlights from the 98 upset. Wherever you found that video, Chase, I recommend that you sever all connections to it. Delete the browser history, destroy any related files, smash a hammer through the computer, burn the whole thing, and then may the Buckeyes treat any team from that state up north with at least as much violent destruction this afternoon and forevermore.

Anyone who’s against B1G expansion needs to look at today's games. Purdue @ Maryland is arguably the most interesting. Michigan @ Indiana for the Big Noon? More like the B1G Snooze.
BYU and Notre Dame in Las Vegas? Vegas would be awesome for a neutral site game but I'm not sure I’d be excited about BYU since Mormons don’t drink but the flip side is the Catholics should more than cover BYU’s share.
Washington State @ USC intrigues me. The Cougars are a decent football team. The Coliseum was only 80% full for last week’s ASU @ USC, which was also a night game.
Oregon State @ Stanford also intrigues me but from a coach-on-the-hot-seat standpoint. Last place Stanford hasn’t beaten an FBS team in over a year. David Shaw’s overall record of 94-48 (.662) is impressive but so was Paul Chryst’s 86-45 (.656) career record but that didn’t stop Wisconsin from dumping him. Chryst was 25-14 since 2019, while Shaw’s gone 12-22.
Bryce Young’s a game time decision. If he doesn't play, can Jimbo and ATM beat Saban and Alabama?

I checked out College Gameday and those clowns aren’t even trying to hide their disdain for the Big10. As you point out, the days slate isn’t the greatest (mostly because the West sucks so far), the everyone on the desk laughed when they showed the Big 10 games. Desmond tried to take it a step further by saying ‘when are we going to welcome Ohio State back to college football’ (basically ragging on the schedule). Pollack actually pushed back on him hard (much to my surprise) and called out UM’s schedule - so Desmond tried to compare @Iowa and UMD to Arkansas State and Toledo…. At this point he’s just doubling down on being a tool, right? Luckily Big Noon was starting, so I jumped over there.
Makes me wonder how long the Gameday commentators who have B1G backgrounds will stay with ESPN after the networks switch. Desmond (TTUN) will probably be looking for a new career. Herbie (THE) will probably be with a different network (already doing Thursday NFL). Corso (Indiana) likely retires. Fowler (grew up in Illinois and Stare College PA) might move on too.

You'd be much better off to link to a great, unique analysis of the game written by someone else.
Every week you introduce today’s games with the line, “I've bolded the ones I find intriguing but feel free to look at the whole selection.” There is an underlying tone in all of your writing of self-aggrandizement and condescension. We don’t need your permission to read the content.
Good luck in the future. Keep in mind, your job is to be interesting and provide readers something a bit different. The web is full of bloggers, show personality with an edge, find topics and angles other people aren’t covering, justify the reader’s investment of time in reading you daily.
First, when Chase writes things like “. . . feel free to look at the whole selection” . . . That is a common figure of speech that is used in writing as a word filler. Your point that writers must be interesting to attract and keep readers’ attention is well taken and using such filler devices probably doesn’t help in that cause. But to claim that it reveals Chase has a self-aggrandizing and condescending personality . . . You are reading way too far into a few simple rhetorical devices!
Secondly, there were times with previous Skully writers when I thought they went overboard trying to be interesting personalities, themselves, as opposed to sharing interesting content. That is a balancing act and there is something to be said for writers being understated. I will keep reading to see how Chase grows into this new role.
I’ve been saying for awhile that Priestas needs to create a Sunday Skull Session for the complainers to step up and show they can do better. Those who can, do; those who can’t bitch about it. That team was LOADED on both sides of the ball. Urban’s biggest failure, by far…….including all of his failures.
