Depth and a shot to be our center since he favors the inside and might not have the long arms needed more for the tackle position? We don't know for sure but o line could be worse than we think or a rash of transfers down the line? I think James was next in line for the center position. Played guard in high school from one of the better Cincinnati programs if I recall. We are beating the bushes but has experience which is more than we can say about most of the current players on our line roster..
Yeah, but ULM was a poor team that played Texas,Troy,Alabama,Army,Coastal Carolina,Southern Miss, and So.Alabama. That's 7 bowl teams and him likely playing out of best position.
Yeah, I hope he does great things and makes the best of the opportunities he’ll receive here eventually (hopefully) leading to a chance to get drafted. Just thought I’d throw some context out to those who were going to #Boom this comment section up.
Earle for MOD in 16', it'll be the last best thing to ever happen to him.
Commodore - been trying to figure out. Most of your comments are so over the top that I've always assumed you are just being sarcastic/trolling. But lately, I'm not so sure. Which is it?
I don't always comment on Commodore posts when he's trolling, but when I do I spit out the Dos Equis I've been drinking because the Commodore's posts are so damn entertaining.
I wish Cutler nothing but the best. He has a great opportunity to grow and learn and be a part of a Brotherhood that becomes stronger with each addition. Welcome!
Depth is good. Hope he can improve his technique and athleticism quickly
I'm not finished! Before we let you leave, your commander must cross that field, present himself before this army, put his head between his legs, and kiss his own arse.
I can obviously see this guy got grayed out, but I was actually thinking the same when I saw Goodwin was still in the transfer portal. It really didn't make sense to me why they're not at least trying. Does anyone have any real intell on why they aren't going back after the big guy?
"There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you."
He's started at LT, C, and RT. If he doesn't start this year, I'd guess this was more a move for depth and the future as we'll probably lose Jackson, Jones, and Vimahi after next season. Nice pickup.
I mean based on rankings and so on it is not the most exciting thing but I will be rooting for him. Still hoping they go for a bigger fish in the spring. Not sure if this is a depth piece or starter piece.
I like the pick up. Look at it like a guy with alot of minor league experience that you hope can reach his full potential in the 'big league'. We need experienced bodies.
Intriguing. I think this is a move to potentially allow Donovan Jackson to kick out to LT and bring this guy in as an interior lineman.
The biggest knock on our returning depth guys appears to have been pass protection, which is *checks notes* a big part of the Day-Hartline offense, so I wonder if they think Cutler's time on the edge can translate to better pass blocking when he's got help on the inside.

Concern is the trend we are seeing here...OSU has been very selective in the past with transfer portal additions ( jonah jackson, Trey Sermon, J fields, mccalister, Carter). But this is now the 5th OL we have offered during this transfer portal cycle and his ranking/performance is by far the worst.
Again...if we cant get on board with NIL for transfer players we will continue to see this issue. Just the way it is now.
Yeah, but look at the QB from UF. Signed, found out his NIL wasn't all that, now he wants out. He strictly went for the money... OSU is trying to avoid that. I get that we have to offer something, if not we'll be left in the dust, but we can't be bribing kids to come with multi-million dollar deals. It's a real slippery slop either way you dice it.
Not impressive based on the available information about this guy. Louisiana Monroe? Really??! That's who we get in the Portal?? Who masterminded this one?!
Upvoting. Not a huge vote of confidence in our two deep. Taking an untouted fifth year senior developmental project who played poorly at a small school and thinking he’ll perform better against much better competition? That‘s just an awful lot of wishful thinking for a program that should be getting elite talent.
He is the 18th OLineman on scholarship. That's 21% of the scholarship players and the OLine makes up 23% of the starting 22. Seems like the math is ok here.
True, but one of them is fighting a more important battle - so I'd say it's 17. We're typically at 15 or 16 and I strongly believe the staff has had hard conversations with a few where they need to be by the end of spring practice (assuming no one enters the portal today).
I'm not an OL expert but looking at the highlights, he moves his feet first quickly and stays in from of his man. I can't tell much about his ability to push and drive BIG linemen. Frye must think he is a better option than some in the two deep.
Welcome aboard young man. His stats leave a lot to be desired I now have concerns about how the staff feels about the status of our Oline. I got to go with that they saw something in this young man or something they can fix so I don't have to think we have an oline roster that doesn't have it or there are transfers coming.
Or it was just a panic move and they believed that they HAD to land someone, even if it was for depth. He DOES appear to move well but is a bit light at just over 300lbs.
I'm not trying to be overly critical and nit-pick everything Ryan does. With losing 3-starters on the OL, would've been nice to land a kid in the portal who's a for sure starter. A kid who can come into the program and take a starting spot on day 1.
This kid will compete for spot. I guess the added competition will make the room better.
I think this says more about how the staff views Jakob James than anything.

Can we please stop referring to him as a 2 star? He played well against some of the best competition in the country and now has a great chance to start here, if not provide valuable depth. He could be this year's Jonah Jackson. Luckily he is going to be coached by Frye and not Stud.
He may be average , but lets not forget Jonah jackson was average at best at Rutgers & became one of the best OSU Guards in the last 20 years imo …. Sometimes better coaching at players around you showcases your true talent
Damn, it's an interesting world. If you'd have told me 3 years ago that there would soon come a time when we need to go get a 2-star that wants to get out of ULM...and he'd immediately be "in the OL mix" going into Spring ball, I'd have demanded one of whatever you were drinking. Yet, here we are.
Welcome young man.
Now get to work! You've got a shitload of technique to master and strength to add, with very little time to do it.
With the coaching and conditioning OSU has to offer he'll get better, and a kid who said this is a dream come true will hopefully appreciate the opportunity and work his nuts off to earn it. JJ Watt was a former 2 star, he worked out pretty well.
Meanwhile up in Ann Arbor, Michigan has landed another offensive lineman, supposedly the #1 OL from the transfer portal, and this one is a familiar face. Myles Hinton, a 6-foot-7, 320-pound offensive tackle from Stanford, announced his commitment to the Wolverines on Saturday evening in a post on social media platform. Sometimes I wonder what is going on in the WHAC?
As you get older, three things happen: The first is your memory goes, and I can't remember the other two.
Michigan would give that up in a heartbeat to be the recruiting animal Ohio State is.
I wonder what’s going on inside your head
Kool-Aid drinkers and cheerleaders such as yourself are always welcome on 11W. However, I prefer a more serious debate without the scarlet sunglasses. And in case you weren't watching, we lost the last two years in a row. Your name definitely doesn't check out.
As you get older, three things happen: The first is your memory goes, and I can't remember the other two.
It’s not drinking kook-aide, it’s just not being an idiot.
Watch Georgia vs. Ohio State and Georgia vs, Michigan and you will realize how dumb this sounds.
Michigan beat Ohio State, cool that happens. Only a moron though Ohio State would never lose to Michigan again. Michigan has 0% chance to win a national championship with their roster where as Ohio State was the best team in the country when they played to their potential.
In a heart beat I would take any of the transfer portal OL ichagan got over who we have gotten so far on the OL. I hope Cutler does well, but after reading about what he has done on the field, I did not get excited.
Good decision - multiple position experience, started in 21 games, good size for an IOL, wants to be a Buckeye, nice depth move. Welcome to Buckeye Nation Victor!
If the defense can NOT give up 87 points, ginormous chunk plays, and 8.8 yards per play in the biggest games of the season- then I don’t think the position or play of Mr. Cutler will have a significant impact on winning or losing.
I don't see this as a bad thing. Depth at a couple of positions at this point is important.
But it does reinforce the fact that O-line recruiting is critical right now and Justin Frye needs to step it up big time. The time is now. I just don't see a lot of nasty in the O-line. I want a LeCharles Bentley type who will beat up on his own teammate and then get meaner with the competition.
I'm close to hitting the panic button, I think OSU is a lot more deep in IOL but in desperate need of elite OT's. Here's to hoping an impact OT is forthcoming later this spring.
Welcome to Buckeye Nation Victor! Knowing a little about the area that Victor is coming from i can tell you that he is coming from the top high school program in LA. West Monroe Rebels have just as many State and National high school titles as the top programs in the state of Ohio. So his high school coaching is as good as it gets. I believe Victor will be at center for OSU or the top back up for any of the positions on the O-Line.
Victors film shows some good things, he has two years of eligibility left and could at the least be an upgrade to the line even if its in a back up role this year. Quality depth at this level is always a good thing and the staff knows better than most who has developed and who has not. Welcome aboard Victor Go bucks !
If he performed that well against Alabama, then the skills are there, but probably just lacks the consistency. Still, a good pickup for the Buckeyes and Coach Frye.

Dude allowed 8 sacks and 28 pressures last season…
Earle for MOD in 16', it'll be the last best thing to ever happen to him.
Lot of variables, he performed well against the best competition (Alabama), and hopefully we can coach him up.
Justin Fields is a legend
I was just throwing stats out for it to be known. It’s a depth decision and adds some experience to the room. I wish nothing but the best for him.

I was just trying to give some hope for improvement lol
Good depth piece at positions of need.

We already have depth, we need more width.
I almost said something about length as well but promptly deleted it...

Glad they have another body. But Bama was up 28-0 end of one. There were no reps against a charging Bama defense. He won’t play much

Yeah, this guy sucks. WTF was the coaching staff thinking. He’s just practice squad cannon fodder.

Shame on you for that comment - joking or not. It’s what’s wrong with college football fans. Give him a chance dude.
Well, those guys are on scholarship too.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Not sure what you were trying to gain from that comment. This is a kid you’re talking about trying to do great things. Nice look.

This is a competition piece for Jakob James at center I bet it who wasn’t highly regarded coming out of high school in his own right
The center will very likely be Matt Jones.
I feel like the staff would prefer someone step up at center so they can keep Jones at guard, but someone definitely has to step up.
Reply button is fixed I agree moving people around sucks sometimes with chemistry. You weaken two spots instead of one.

Development and competition could bring out the beast in him!

Do you know if he's participating in winter workouts? I think he'd benefit from that a lot.
I assume he will be in the open center competition.

I’m not talking numbers. I’m talking quality lineman. That u can plug and play after a year maybe two
JJ
Knowles, Walton, and Eliano need to step it up and take a couple of good defensive backs in the portal.
YEP! That portal is just loaded with Ohio State ready to start talent
Secondary help and OL depth still a priority.
Bucks fans in Mass
Welcome aboard young man. His stats leave a lot to be desired I now have concerns about how the staff feels about the status of our Oline. I got to go with that they saw something in this young man or something they can fix so I don't have to think we have an oline roster that doesn't have it or there are transfers coming.
His '22 stats are as a LT, he will be playing inside here. Frye must think he can develop into a good IOL, and has started games at center before.
Get him in the weight room, add 20 lbs and some better coaching with higher expectations and he may become a solid road grading guard.
SalemBuckeye
Or it was just a panic move and they believed that they HAD to land someone, even if it was for depth. He DOES appear to move well but is a bit light at just over 300lbs.

I'm not trying to be overly critical and nit-pick everything Ryan does. With losing 3-starters on the OL, would've been nice to land a kid in the portal who's a for sure starter. A kid who can come into the program and take a starting spot on day 1.

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
Needed body after missing out on several offensive linemen. Welcome to the brotherhood sir.
I'm confused... OSU is now at 90 scholarships according to this site's grid.
Tyler Friday, Palaie Gaoteote, and Josh Proctor are included in the 90's but are 'maybes' as they have yet to declare if they will use their 'covid year'
But my calculations: 5 have to go :(
What's there to be confused about? The coaching staff knows there will at least be 5 guys that leave after spring ball when the depth chart becomes a little more clear. This happens every year and is the norm in college football now.
I remember when we praised Tressel on this site for not oversigning. But, with transfer portals with instant eligibility, it's the new normal.
https://www.elevenwarriors.com/2011/10/the-oversigning-bowl
Friday and Proctor are not returning. Regardless, no reason to worry about the 85 at this point.
I hope he was coached up some at Monroe and his learning curve isn't that great since he came out as a 2 star recruit.
Can we please stop referring to him as a 2 star? He played well against some of the best competition in the country and now has a great chance to start here, if not provide valuable depth. He could be this year's Jonah Jackson. Luckily he is going to be coached by Frye and not Stud.
He'll become an All American ....
The NIL deal offering unlimited shrimp etouffee and gumbo after practice was too good to pass up, but can the Buckeye collective deliver the goods?
This could end up being the feel good story of the 2023 season.
His performance ratings makes OSU look desperate. When was last 2* OL ever recruited?
osufan
Does his high school ranking make any difference after three years in college? The coaches saw enough on tape to bring him in.
Dayton Buck 99
Jonah Jackson lmao
We have all-state 4 star recruits and backups waiting their turn. Maybe Victor adds some depth if we have some injuries?
Tearing it up in the portal.
I can only imagine how great that young man is feeling right now. Congratulations Victor!
Behold the chunky whoop ass.
I’ll take a game experienced 2 star who wants to be a Buckeye over a 4 star who’s only there because of more NIL cash everyday.
Indiana is just Ohio West
Good luck to our newest Buckeye!

Ww just went toe to toe with georgia, the o line played very well, and OSU can't attract a top tier transfer lineman...
