Harry Miller is one ripped dude!

It hurts to say it, but the twenty year reign of dominance over TTUN is officially OVER.

And some Buckeye fans actually wished for a competitive adversary, incredibly. Get used to it. We’ve seen this before. Fickell wasn’t ready when he was the interim HC after Tressel. Promoting assistant coaches with no HC experience is incredibly risky. Especially at Ohio State. I blame Gene for not at least interviewing other HCs elsewhere. I blame UFM, as well, for pushing so hard for his protégé.

I just Googled this: “In his 13 seasons at Ohio State, (John)Cooper compiled a 111–43–4 record; his 111 victories are second in Ohio State history behind only Woody Hayes's 205.”  Pretty good record, no? Yet people wanted him fired, and for good reason.

One other thing: I think Harry Miller should have gotten NIL $. His character should’ve been rewarded.

As you get older, three things happen: The first is your memory goes, and I can't remember the other two.

Fickell came close to winning that game with a freshman QB and a 6-7 team. Last year Michigan was the better team and their players won it. This year is 100% coaching. The opening Ohio State was a good mix of play calling and Michigan was on their heels. Then for no reason whatsoever Day starts calling plays that haven’t worked all season and never went back to the opening plays. Once Michigan figured out that the deep ball was there, the Ohio State coaches never adjusted. Just a poorly coached game.

Here's John Cooper's record 2-10-1 versus Michigan and 0-8 against the SEC in bowl games. Quit mentioning Cooper as some great f..king coach he wasn't. You talk about Day being a s..t coach no one was worse than Cooper against Michigan. Don't get me started on the 1995 and 98 seasons. People bitching about Day have no idea about the 90s under Cooper. I am not fond of the outcome against Michigan don't go there on Cooper.

I’m batching about Day and I lived through the 90’s debacle.

The more you act like a lady the more likely he’ll act like a gentleman.

A night of sleep did nothing for me. We suck and it starts at the top with scheme, playcalling, and leadership and ends at undisciplined players.

I’d say you’re correct. He was ripping SENIORS on his first day in the building for their lack of effort.

Has Day regressed as a play caller? It seems more vanilla than Tressel? I’m wondering if that is natural, and to combat that natural regression, give someone else that task and continue recycling that person once it gets stale??

I think its a combination of regression but also good defensive coordinators on good teams have figured him out. Big difference between 2018/19 and him today. I think he can script plays well ahead of time (opening drive for example) but doesnt adjust well during the game in real time.

HS
Starburst Buckeye's picture

What about letting Kevin Wilson call the plays. The guy coached a heisman winner in Sam Bradford at Oklahoma. As the head coach of Indiana, he had one of the most prolific offenses in Indiana history. The guy is an offensive genius and I think he would do incredible things with the offense but Ryan Day has to let go control and give the reigns to him.

Kevin Wilson is a brilliant mind that we have had on staff for years and pretty much wasted.

Gonna be ugly around here for a couple months. The sarcasm whenever you guys quote Day for the next year is going to be thick enough to eat.

Hope this doesnt trickle into recruiting man. Without the "talent advantage " idk where we'd be. Our '23 schedule is as follows:
September 2nd @Indiana
September 9th vs.Youngstown State
September 16th vs. Western Kentucky
September 23rd @ Notre Dame
October 7th vs. Maryland
October 14th @ Purdue
October 21st vs. Penn State
October 28th @ Wisconsin
November 4th @ Rutgers
November 11th vs. Michigan State
November 18th vs. Minnesota
November 25th @ Michigan
May not look tough but trust me we play every decent conference team outside of Iowa. Western Kentucky had one of the best passing attacks in the country this year, which we now know is ABSOLUTELY our Achilles heel heading into the off-season. Could turn into a tough year unless McCord is Burrow 2.0 with ice in his veins. I cant take another L to finish the year next year. I JUST CANT

Frankly Chaas, I’d almost rather lose to Rutgers and Western Kentucky in the same year, than Michigan.

Wait.  Scratch the sarcastic “almost.”

It will be interesting to see the portal movements this year.  I will not be surprised to see some unexpected players escape  the dark cloud this program is in.  No doubt the pressure of reflection of the past year work  and the uncertainty of any better result next year might trigger some to go for a clean start.  Day may have to be a great salesman this off season.

Anyone who saw Urban disassemble Harbaugh 62-39 UNDERSTANDS the buffoonery of staying in Man to Man coverage after being shown it isn't working.

5 TDs of > 45 yards.

Harbaugh learned in the Shoe 2018 and it shows.

Ryan Day, 2 losses to TTUN; loss to Clemson (got revenge though); Alabama and Oregon. Looming on the horizon, TTUN with an experienced QB at home. Also Penn State with an Ohio kid @ QB; ND@ their place; USC & UCLA coming into the fold.

Mr. Day, life doesn’t get easier especially when you’re the coach that much has been given to, much is expected! If, you are the next great OSU HC, then it’s time to prove it!

I gave Day the benefit of the doubt after every game for the crappy running game, sideways passes, and the passing game that had the receivers running routes that left no room to get YAC. Inability to convert 3rd downs. Just an overall poor game plan that inexplicably didn't utilize the players strengths. The defense did the same thing. Allowing any QB with a pulse to have a career game. I knew Ryan Day was saving the explosive plays for scum. Day said OSU practiced for scum all year. Knowles said the D had plenty of his new scheme left for scum. I didn't see anything from OSU that would make me believe they even watched film on scum. Much less formulate a plan to beat them. They delivered the same disjointed game plan they used all year. What a disappointment. The coaches let the players down and lied to Buckeye fans about their preparations for defeating scum. What a shit show Ryan Day put on.

Yeah I fell for it too.

It makes the loss tougher when you’re expecting a beat down, especially with Corum out.

I won’t believe anything Day says anymore.

Fool me once. Fool me twice. I’m done being fooled.

Same. Literally has this conversation with a buddy right before kickoff. Thought for sure we’d see a game plan full of things we hadn’t unveiled all season and in the end it exactly the same shit we showed every other game.
I kept thinking we were sandbagging a great game plan for the game, knowing we could win most games by sheer talent advantage. Boy was I wrong.

I don’t understand why Day went away from what was working early on.  He called  plays like he was afraid of something (again). I’ve been a Buckeye fan since 1964, so those of you mentioning that Woody was 1-2 at this point, just shut up. This was the most Cooperesque season since…well…Cooper.

Rambling incoherent rant over. For now.

This AD has created this program. Day is not ready to lead a program like Ohio State. He's proven that three times, once to Alabama in the NC and twice to scUM. WE NEED AN OHIO STATE GUY TO COACH! This circus needs to end. Get UC on the phone! They have our next coach.

"and there he is... The Big Kat"

HS
Drew74's picture

Ryan Day was handed the keys to a Lamborghini and just wrecked it. A former player said Day needs to quit being the players friend and become their coach. That implies that Day is soft and undemanding and his team has become soft. Urban was a coach. Tressel was a coach. Unless there is a change, Day will be 1-3 against TTUN after next year and we can’t let that happen. He has won 92% of his games but we don’t need another John Cooper. Day is now “damaged goods” and the team has lost faith in him. He will never beat TTUN again and must be replaced at the end of this year. Urban and Luke Fickell are obvious choices.

HS
Keze's picture

Sad but if the recruits are paying any attention they will see that Day can not win the big time games and will go to ND or Xichigan where there is a young coach and a coach who has Day's number.

TOSU better get their NIL program up and running cause that maybe the only way recruiting stays top 5 after this shit show.

Long-time reader, first time commenter.

Just want to say, I'm a Michigan fan, but I read "Threat-Level Michigan" most weeks and enjoy the hell out of it. I've some trepidation about wading into a sometimes aggressive anti-UM commentariat, but I love how Johnny writes about it.

He keeps it light, actually has very good analysis of Michigan in that column while being an OSU homer and it's genuinely funny and enjoyable without being overly-barbed in the anti-Michigan way.

It's how sports rivalries should be. Fun. Not real hate. Having a hard time getting the images of the MSU post-game, tunnel assault this year out of my head. That's not how it should be.

I do have some OSU fan and alum friends, have enjoyed visiting Columbus on occasion, although it's been many years at this point since I moved out of the Mid West.

Just want to say I'm happy this is a real rivalry again and hope to see an even better OSU and Michigan team in a closer epic next year.

And to Johnny Ginter: never change. I'll keep coming back to read "Threat Level" weekly no matter how good or bad Michigan is.
