Im hopeful.  I’m also a realist.  Unless the coaching staff has learned from, and attacked the obvious issues everyone sees, I’m not sure this talented team will win.

I believe they can win.  Talent is everywhere.  Now put them in a place to achieve victory.

sadly, we did not see changes all year long after the Iowa game, I just don't see them making changes in a few weeks.

Defense will make stops when it needs to, Day will call vanilla anti-aggressive play calls, stick to HIS game plan, and the offense will stall out like a 92 civic in michigan during Jan.
Go bucks,

But UGA 34-OSU 17

5 bad plays on defense and a few bad play calls doesn't mean they suck. You wouldn't know it reading these comments.

The only way the bucks pull this off, is if the hole team is all in for each other, Ryan Day and staff included. If they truly FIGHT THE TEAM ACROSS THE FIELD with heart, they can do it. That is the only way. Miles and miles of heart. Paging Shane Falco………

Then you remember, LSU threw for 500 yards, scored 30 and lost by 20, in the SEC CG.

Little perspective on that score, HW.  LSU had an incredibly stupid blocked FG go against them for a TD.  half their team was walking off the field when it happened.

Take 7 away and add 3... 43-33.  Not that bad.

No matter what, I think the Bucks will bring the fight.  This will be a four-quarter game.

Would love to see Ryan Day lose his mind, toss his headset to the ground and foam a little at the mouth when something goes against him. I think his team needs to see that in him and carry it over on to the field.

HS

I’m a realist and for this game I keep thinking of Joe Germaine at FSU years ago. No time to pass and pressured throughout the game. I hope not and I hope we have a competitive game. Would love to win it all in an underdog role. I think we’ll need to see Stroud run to be another threat and I just don’t see that happening. Go Bucks and win it all.

HS
Berg2004's picture

Stroud did say in the presser he would do whatever it takes to win. Now what that means to him versus you and me is yet to be seen.

HS

not sure why all the down votes.  cult must be riled up this morning.  this seems like a reasonable observation.  hope to win (or at least have a competitive game) but my gut and my eyes are not sure this team has what it takes to put it all together when it counts against top level competition.  if we cannot run for at least 100 yards in this game, we are in trouble and from what I have seen so far this year, I dont see that happening against this defense and Kirby knows it.  we should have a good idea pretty quick how this team will do.  if they come out and throw a couple of WR screens and go three and out, we will be blown out.

1st point: Because people are like lemmings.

2nd point: I don’t give a shit how good Jalen Carter and their run defense is, if we totally give up on the run game, as Coach Day did vs. TTUN, our drives stall in the red zone. At that point, he’s learned nothing and it’s game over.

Feel like everyone is discounting the idea that the OSU D holds Georgia in check for large portions of this game.

16 against UK, 27 against a meh UT D, 26 against Missouri.

They can score but there is no guarantee they put up 30+.

Don't think this will be a defensive struggle, but OSU D's one big weakness (CB) isn't an area of strength for them. So as long as we keep their TEs in check keeping them under 30 may be pretty realistic.

I hate to say this but I think the column next year needs to be threat level Ohio State--i.e. the threat we pose to TTUN. Once we get the rivalry back on track, we can flip it back to TTUN's threat to us. I just don't see how next year the TTUN threat to the Buckeyes is not extreme every week--even if TTUN loses every week by 100!

Can we at least celebrate that this season produced an SEC West in shambles? Jimbo's team lost to App St. at home. Arkansas was a quality loss that wasn't. LSU lost opening weekend then played clown music and clowned Saban (, who pathetically showed up on SECCG weekend only at halftime to pander to the committee, and who people have begun to utter "end" and "dynasty" about... yes also who nearly went undefeated but also who equally nearly went 7-5, and who would have lost UGa, without question). That's pretty fun. Also Dabo's team stinks so bad DJU hit the portal.

When this game is over, we will look back at it and wonder what we were worried about all the time. We are literally the first serious test Georgia has faced all season. I appreciate the "ThreatCon", Mr. Ginter. Now, here's the SITREP (Situation Report):

-You have a weary Georgia team, whose head coach doesn't know which team he is going to face. Is he going to prep for the longball, pocket passer? Or is he going to face a dynamic explosive offense, where pass and run is about evenly distributed, to include a running QB? Stroud has shown unwillingness to run in the past, but I also think there are NFL scouts who want to see more than bubble screens, and lateral/backward runs for hurries. Stroud likely has THAT on the back of his mind -- He knows that many want to see it, to include future bosses.

-Jaylen Carter now has a bullseye on his forehead. Good. Now the rest of Georgia's defense will have to step up. Will they? At the same time, our secondary will need to show up, as Stetson Bennett is expected to take advantage of a sleeping secondary. He's going to test to see if our secondary can wake up, track and attack the ball, without timidness. He also knows that our linebackers will be pulling heavy duty, so he's going to shovel in the paint, as well.

-Georgia's defense are expecting "Zone 6" to run route, but aren't expecting any blocking worth noting, so they are going to try to bully them. That's going to have to stop, as offensive weapons also need to commit to blocking and helping setup plays selflesslessly. If CJ manages to run? The offensive weapons who aren't the O Line need to block for their field general. The Sugar Bowl game I. CFP Playoff 1 remains the standard on this, as EVERYONE, INCLUDING CARDALE, blocked as needed, to make gains.

-Ohio State coaching must be adaptive and explosive. You can't take the amount of time it takes to look at milk carton dates and the best eggs in the dairy aisle to call the plays. Give no one a chance to read your signals. And above all, "march across the field", one progressive run and pass at a time, so you can set up that deep ball that you so love to commit to. Defense? Keep shuffling the deck, and keep Smart over-guessing.

- The "Buckeye Battering Ram" needs to be brought back and utilized. This was something that was started by Jim Tressel in the Terrelle Pryor years, and perfected by Urban Meyer: The Rotational Chamber of cannonball, after cannonball runner, breaking and breaching their defensive walls and vanguards, is some of the most effective Buckeye football ever played. With Chip now in arsenal? I expect that this will return. GOOD.

When you breakdown the SITREP, fundamentals and the attitude to get the jobs done are the difference maker, be it player or coach.

Like dogs eventually start to look like their owners, football teams begin to take on the persona of their coach.  Bama can tend to play dirty and mean.  Clemson plays dirty in a whole “different” way.  Iowa plays D like a grumpy old man.  Etc

This phenomenon is not necessarily a good thing in our case.

Day appears to be a really nice guy, a “gentleman” even.  Gentlemen do not great coaches make.

like Day, our guys seem polite. Nice. Almost gentle in how they interact with the media.

Unfortunately, those words, at times throughout the season, could also describe our play.

Meyer was a lot of things, but gentleman is probably not used to describe him very often.  Same for Woody.

Cooper?  Gentleman. Day?  Gentleman.

Is there still hope?  I don’t know. I need to see him lose his __it a few times this game. Show some fire. Get an unsportsmanlike occasionally. Throw things!  Get in the face of players!  Impune their manhood! Hell, I’d even take a swing (and miss this time) at an opposing player!

Ask Todd Boeckman and Ray Smalls.

HS
CreekBuck's picture

Did Boeckman fuck up? or did his Oline?  if Oline either  it's talent, technique, scheme, recruiting, coaching.  Couldn't bench entire line, couldn't fire coaches, no one new walking on to help, just work technique and scheme. in the meantime OSU needed TP2's wheels cuz oline couldn't keep defense off QB.

Muck Fichigan

HS
The Second Coming of Earle's picture

That's a good point, Creek.

In Boeckman's case, he did reach his ceiling. And I do remember the controversy of the call to change the depth chart.

I guess, the point I was trying to make, is that Tressel was willing to bench people for reasons, past what the fans may or may not have wanted. The benching happened during the USC game, which I recall was a "big game". Rather abruptly, I add.

I wonder if HC Day has what it takes to do the same, of the same scenario should happen this weekend?

HS
CreekBuck's picture

all fair points.

They've bene benching Defensive players in game all year. Not so much offense, they just don't play them for health reasons while others play on one leg with heathy backups not getting a lot of run.

Bench CJ for Kyle or Devin? Doubt that. Anyway your point is well taken.

We are home & home with you guys in 2030 & 2031; I'm 64 so assuming I'm still around then I would love to come experience Gameday in Columbus in 2031, Kirby is working to strengthen the out of conference schedule. We were supposed to open with Oklahoma in 2023 but since they are coming into the SEC the conference "asked" us to find another opponent so we're now playing Ball State. You guys come to Athens in 2030 & I think you'll enjoy the experience. It's a much smaller city ( app. 130,000) than Columbus but it's totally centered around the school. You can walk to downtown from the stadium & enjoy the restaurants & bars post game. A lot of rankings consider it one of the best college towns in the country & the people are pretty friendly as well. captainjacksparrow's picture

I look forward to taking you up on the offer, BuckeyeVet. My thoughts on how the game will play out? I haven't seen anybody run the ball effectively on UGA other than in spurts for a couple of years; the defensive line is too disruptive & the linebackers are too fast & tackle too well for anybody we've played so far to move the ball consistently on the ground. Where we are susceptible is where the Buckeyes are best: a really good QB throwing to really good receivers. We've been beaten for big plays in the secondary, often given up by Kelee Ringo. He also makes a lot of big plays for us. For all his size & speed at CB, his body control seems to be a challenge. He often struggles to change direction smoothly & ends up getting beaten or called for PI more often than you expect. Kamari Lassiter seems to have better instincts & has been our best CB this year.

If we can pressure Stroud & make him uncomfortable (whether we get him on the ground or not), I think we win the game by 10 or so points. If we don't get pressure on him consistently, it's a tossup. And if either team has a couple of turnovers, it will make a huge difference because both teams have offenses that will take advantage of turnovers.

HS
BuckeyeTed's picture

Ohio State has talent all over the field too. The offense has to be great. No turnovers. TDs instead of FGs. QB run when the opportunity to get 7-8 cheap yards presents. The defense has to be better than good. Get a couple turnovers. Get a couple sacks.

It won’t be easy winning a de facto road game, but there’s enough talent to get it done.

HS
