Development shouldn't be an issue. Talent absolutely shouldn't be an issue.

Whether it's McCord or Brown, assuming that the coaching staff has done enough in development with the OL and there's not a massive fall off from the guys they're going to lose to the draft this year, they should have the table set to be successful.

Boof Bonser says:

I like how the upcoming schedule sets up to break in a new starter.  A couple of turd games to start, then an early litmus test with ND in week 4.  Couple more cupcakes then a back to back tester with PSU and Wisconsin.  Then back to the lab for a few weeks to regroup for Michigan.  So the key will be to prioritize not who is on our schedule but to schedule what our priorities in development are.  I, for one, will be drinking along the whole season either way.

Kind of crazy that Day has been around since JT...I frequently forget about that. I'd also update to include rushing stats so full production is included as it was a big part of JT and Fields' game.

Day's reputation as a QB coach is legit, and his current system is always going to result in stellar numbers. Hartline's WR room only makes that more of a certainty.

The team will not be held back by the QB next year, just like how it hasn't been held back by the QB in the last 5 years (I'm sure I'll get some disagreement here).

To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

Yeah, I think he was brought in after the team was embarrassed against Clemson in the playoff to make the offense more diverse.

Not sure anyone will disagree here except some who thought Burrow should've gotten the nod at starting nod in 2018. I honestly either of the 2 would've worked out really well for us and it just so happened Haskins got the nod. The last time I felt the QB was holding the team back was in 2017. Not saying JT Barrett was bad or anything, but both Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow were better passers.

It’s gonna be fun to watch.

Interesting that you went with "JT" Barrett and "Coleridge" Stroud.

As an aside, this is the first year where the new starter had multiple years under Day before starting, Correct? Or was that Haskins? Either way I could see McCord having a first season closer to Haskins and Brown getting closer to Fields / Barrett given their slightly different skillsets. A Haskins-style season would be beautiful as the skill position players should be damn near unstoppable. Just get the ball to Harrison, Egbuka, Fleming, Stover, Henderson, WIlliams, Pryor, Ballard, Scott Jr, the list goes on and on and on and on.....

Excited for the future!

Lol I noticed that after I made the post and thought ehh, but you're right it's bugging me so I changed it. And yes you're partially correct. Haskins did have a year under his belt before being the official new starter. CJ did as well in the covid year. As far as this years starter, watching the tape, they both look great, but I lean towards Brown because he seems to be more athletic and has a better running ability. Again, this is just my opinion. I'm good with the man getting paid almost 10 Mil to make that decision.

Agree - I think Day has earned the benefit of the doubt for QBs Honestly, I think either will light it up, the skill players are just too good to not bouey the QB through some rough patches. I'm hoping Henderson stays healthy so we can have more checkdowns in the flat to a RB who can turn nothing into a huge TD at the blink of an eye.

My actual bet is that whoever gets the start will be constantly questioned and any time they so much as breathe wrong you'll have 400 threads here talking about how the backup should start and Day is an idiot.

Those Dwayne Haskins numbers still blow my mind. Hard to wrap my head around fhe fact that he was a one-year starter.

I normally don't count JT Barrett in this sort of conversation because he's not really a first-year starter in the same way as 2018 Haskins, 2019 Fields, and 2021 Stroud. Barrett was recruited by the previous OC for his ability to perform in a very different offensive system, had already had 30-whatever games of starting experience, and already had three years of development (or non-development, thanks Beck/Warinner) under his belt. Barrett improved noticeably as a passer in his last year and that's a credit to Day, but I also don't really think he's a good analogy for what to expect from McCord/Brown either.

Personally, there's one very simple stat I keep coming back to: Three QB's have been first-year starters under Day (Haskins, Fields, Stroud). All three of them performed well enough to be Heisman finalists in that first year and were firmly established as "this guy is a future first round draft pick".

And that's basically what I'm expecting from McCord/Brown. Maybe there's some growing pains early in the season with McCord/Brown. Maybe the Bucks even lose a game because he's not ready to pull out a last second drive or makes a key mistake or etc. Maybe the run of Heisman finalists ends due to quirks in voting or whatever. But I do expect by mid-season, the QB will be a star and at least at the level where you can reasonably say "yeah, he should get Heisman consideration" and "this is a future pro".

170 TDs to 26 Interceptions.

Is that good? That seems good.

Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.

I love it. Of course, the first interception of this season will result in an enormous amount of hand-wringing and calls for whoever threw it to be benched.

Also, let's hope we don't have any close games--wins by at least three TDs are necessary. 50+ point differentials are appreciated. lol

I think Urban Meyer was serious after the 31-0 Clemson loss when he vowed that OSU will be a good passing team going forward.
