He's probably waiting to see who our next head coach will be.

I think you’re really overestimating the impact Bronny would have on revenue, the on-court product and general interest in the program.

HS
Cooper's picture

He's not.

This is definitely where I parked my car.

HS

100%.  We've had a bunch of lottery players over the past decade.  Doesnt really change anything.

HS
Cooper's picture

Lottery picks and marketing have no correlation. I don't think you guys realize the following Bronny has from the younger age demographic.

This is definitely where I parked my car.

HS
bcsBuckeye13's picture

Disagree BrutusB. Bronny isn't another lottery player like you describe. His name carries massive weight, which would attract other players. He may not be the best player out there, but his name alone is going to draw in more success. Look at Coach Prime and Colorado. Deion isn't an elite coach, but he has a big name and this generation of athletes are attracted to stuff like that.

This is not another Malaki Branham.

By any measure, James is the most influential high school athlete of all time.

Sierra Canyon high school games are a mad house. Lines around the block. Police presence at every game. Any time they go on the road people sleep in tents to see him play.

Every game in The Schott would be sold out, and every game would be on national TV.

HS
Kieren1's picture

He’s not. Mike is spot on. The Buckeyes need to work hard to bring him on board. Huge priority.

I don't think he included them as a serious option, probably an homage to LeBron's brand if anything.

Which is a real shame, because Bronny is really shaping up to be an amazing player who really understands the game and helps his whole team (almost as if he is related to someone with that exact type of game). Why would he want to join this dumpster fire of a program? I tell you what, though, he is absolutely necessary right now with Thornton being the only real ball handler on the team next season.

This is definitely where I parked my car.

HS
BrutusB's picture

Assuming Holtmann gets canned, its typical for like half the roster to transfer depending on who the new guy is.  So scholarship space wouldnt be an issue.

HS
Squirrel Master's picture

why I think if anyone leaves early they should get a transfer PG to help Thornton because even with Bronny I think ballhandling is lacking. really need someone with handles and quickness.

I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!

HS
Cooper's picture

I don't think Bronny's ballhandling is great, but he absolutely is quick. He is probably the most seasoned guard in this class with the sheer amount of competition he faces every season. His passing would definitely be an upgrade over anyone not named Bruce Thornton next season.

He won't have flashy handles or be a great iso player, but he is going to make the right play the majority of the time. Who can we say that about right now on this team?

This is definitely where I parked my car.

HS
Squirrel Master's picture

Sueing, Likekele and McNeil are the only 3 guaranteed to leave after this year. With 4 players committed (Austin Parks being the non top 50 player you didn't mention in the class) that would max out the scholarship limit.

need a transfer out or someone to declare early (Sensabaugh, although don't think he should) to have room for Bronny. Last I read, not likely.

I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!

HS
teeedawg's picture

Sensabaugh is climbing into the lottery on many mock drafts.

He's gone, especially if Holtmann stays.

HS
Squirrel Master's picture

he might be but I don't think he should. He needs to develop more on defense and work on his conditioning. Dude is a baller in college but in the NBA I'm not sure he fits...yet.

and projecting him leaving and what happens with Holtmann won't be soon enough for Bronny's decision. I don't see it happening.

I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!

HS
nomatta's picture

LOL, Holtmann staying won't have anything to do with whether Sensabaugh goes or stays.

the empire never ended

HS
MaxPowerBucknut's picture

I could see Gayle, Okpara, or Holden transferring out after this season if they continue to see limited minutes. Based on Holtmann’s history, the most likely outcome is multiple transfers out and then reaches in the transfer portal (Sotos, Brunk anyone?) to get up to numbers.

OSUCOM 2008 Graduate. Go Bucks!

Seems pretty likely hes going to USC and sticking in LA, but what do I know.

HS
HotSauceCommittee's picture

I used to kinda hate on Bronny, but his athleticism has developed and he has developed into a would-be good college player. I don’t think he is a true game changer, but again, I was wrong a few years ago on him.

HS
Silver Sniper's picture

I see him as one of those really smart and well-trained players that does all the right things. Maybe isn’t the flashiest or most athletic but very strong handles, ball distributor, scores when needed. I think he’d be a huge asset to whoever lands him and the type that attracts other big time players.

HS
JBOSUFan1's picture

Hopefully his dad's love of  OSU wins the day for this one...

Let's Go Bucks

HS
1MechEng's picture

How crazy/realistic would it be for Bronny to come to OSU and have his dad retire and become part of the coaching staff here?

I kind of think Lebron wants to play a year in the NBA with his son, but maybe not?!

Trust me! I'm an Engineer.

HS
undercoverbuck's picture

Lebron can opt out the year Bronny is draft eligible (after next season I believe). Bronny would have to be a one and done which may or may not happen but the possibility for them to play one year together is there.  Lebron could probably play 20 mins a night getting 15/5/5 for the next 6 years if he wanted to.

A little bit of objectivity can go a long way

HS
JohnnyKozmo's picture

That's been the speculation I believe...he wants to play with his son in the NBA before he retires.

HS
undercoverbuck's picture

I think he's gone out and said that himself.  I was just saying if that's really his last goal after he becomes the all time leading scorer he could, it just might take longer than that '24 season. Also good for him if it is because that'd be really cool for the James family.

A little bit of objectivity can go a long way

HS
undercoverbuck's picture

I've said it many times but I'll say it again: 6'3 combo guard who shoots very well, high IQ, plays defense and is a good distributor.  That's not even including the off court attention he'd bring. Would take him here in a heartbeat if he wanted to come (even if it's unlikely).

A little bit of objectivity can go a long way

If you’re a head coach do you really want to put up his dad’s bullshit?

HS

What exactly is his dads bullshit?

Sounds like it's gonna be Oregon to me..the whole Nike thing they got going on, his dad's lebron, our team sucks..just my gut feeling

HS
Tiffin2b's picture

Who exactly is this "truly elite head coach" you are getting? lmfao....you think you are luring Coach K out of retirement, or Dean Smith or you are getting Mark Few? Fking hilarious this board is.

HS
BeatMeechigun's picture

Are they coaching at Baylor and Bama right now?

HS
vball10set's picture

or Dean Smith

you do realize he's dead, right?

His second choice would be bringing back Fred Taylor.

HS

A couple things surprise me regarding the whole Bronny thing and his recruitment;

1) he doesn’t have many offers and really none from the powerhouse teams, Duke, UNC, Kansas etc

2) im surprised that he’s gonna go to college for a year or so vs playing in the G League.  You’d think LeBron would prefer him to play in the G league to better prepare him for the NBA.
Thoughts?

HS
undercoverbuck's picture

My guess is he would've went to Duke had K still been there. As for the second point I'd assume he wants the college experience for a year and being big man on campus.  He wouldn't get that in the G league.

A little bit of objectivity can go a long way

HS
buckeyeinthechi's picture

As someone mentioned above, his name is carrying an additional star....he's not in the same stratosphere as Lebron was in HS. He's not a one-n-done player, and probably has a longer way to go (than most think) before getting to the NBA.

There are three different types of people in the world.....those who can count, and those who cannot.

meh...it'd be good for the gate, but for wins/losses? not so much

If we had an elite head coach or even a solid head coach, we probably would get Bronny, and we would be a much better program. But Holtmann's tenure here is falling apart. I can't believe he was given an extension. If I'm LeBron, I tell Bronny to go to a program with stability and a good chance of winning something. It's weird because we have a pretty solid class coming in and Bronny would make it better. We've had good players here. I really don't understand why we are becoming an average basketball program.

BOATS and HOES.

I just read this AM somewhere, that he is favoring Oregon.

HS

Doubtful.  That is speculation.  The James’ don’t talk to anyone in this recruitment……

HS
mizzer's picture

Can he cover RBs on pass routes?

HS
cplunk's picture

The name is big, obviously, but I don't think he is really a top 50 tier player. Am I wrong?

Haven't seen a ton of him, just a little, so I'm legit asking.

HS
undercoverbuck's picture

He's ranked 34 on 247 and a 4*.  That might be a tad high and he's certainly not a 5* but he's a really solid player who knows how to play the game of basketball, play within the team and does a lot of things well.  He's a top 50 player.

A little bit of objectivity can go a long way

HS
Cooper's picture

This year has cemented him as a top 50/75 player. Plays the best competition in the country, has + athleticism and shooting, plays defense, plays the right way, makes the right passes.

Negatives are size, average ballhandling, and ability to create his own shot. He kind of reminds me of the Villanova guards from the mid-2000s i.e. Allan Ray, Randy Foye. Bronny doesn't have one and done talent but if LeBron is desperate enough to play with him, there might not be much of a choice.

This is definitely where I parked my car.

HS
undercoverbuck's picture

Anyone thinking he'll be an NBA All-star will be disappointed but there's a place or Bronny in the NBA. Best case scenario is he's the first guard off the bench on a playoff caliber team.  Probably ends up being a 15-20 min a night player who carves out a nice little career in the league for himself.  He'll stick around because of his IQ, it might just be a bit of a journey to get there.  The early 2000s Nova guards was a good comparison.

A little bit of objectivity can go a long way

How much does a broney cost? I doubt our player buying budget can come close.

Google says he is 6'2" which is probably exaggerated.  Is his mom 4'11"?

LeBron should have picked some 6'1" track star to make babies with and created some superhumans

Bronny might have just gotten the short end of the genetic lottery.

His younger brother Bryce is 15 years old and already 6'6".
