Congrats to the OSU women's basketball team on their 19-0 start!  The Schott should be 100% full on Monday when they play Iowa with #3 scorer in the nation, Caitlin Clark, with a 26.7 ppg.

Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game. -- Michael Jordan

Loved the vid about Coach Muzzerall and the OSU women's hockey team. One of my favorite sports' quotes of all time is one from Coach Muzzerall. (Maybe we should get some of the male coaches to wear black leather pants, like Nadie does, during their matches vs. Michigan. Could be a "Good Luck" charm! /s) Wouldn't back-to-back Nattys be awesome for the ice princesses?

Our Men's BB team could use some of that fire from Coach Muzzerall. Definitely would run (skate if I could) through that proverbial wall for her. The LadyBucks BB seem to have it under control. Keep it rolling!

Switched over from the news to watch the last few minutes of the ladies' large win in Evanston Columbus last night. Both the Mrs and the lad viewed with me, where I made mention that the Buckeye women will soon be visiting College Park. Secured three tickets for the 5 FEB banger shortly thereafter...and we're all pretty excited for college basketball again. Go Buckeyes.

iowabuckeyes's picture

I hate to admit it but I’ve given up on Ohio State MBB and I’m not the only one: based on 4,200+ votes cast in yesterday's poll, 50% think the Buckeyes will play in the NIT and 33% think they won’t play in a postseason tournament. (The remaining 17% is deceiving because a portion feel they’ll be one of the first four out, which means the NIT.) If not for Tanner Holden’s GW 3-pointer that shouldn’t have counted against Rutgers, they’d be 1-6 in the B1G and tied for last place with Minnesota, which beat us in the Shottenstein Center.

Conversely, WBB has been a joy to watch. Two games against Top 10 teams next week (#10 Iowa on Monday and @ #6 Indiana on Thursday) should be fun. Caitlin Clark will be shooting from Iowa City. She’ll get hers; the key may be containing All-B1G 6-3 Monica Czinano, who’s averaging 17.9 ppg.

How is it Michigan and Michigan State don’t have women’s varsity ice hockey teams to help make it a B1G sponsored sport? Ohio State, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Penn State are all nationally ranked.

Great song of the day. I’m not a hip hop fan but OutKast is an exception, “Hey ya” in particular.

Will Levis is definitely going in R1, probably top 10, maybe top 5. Will people know his name in 5 years? Probably not.

HS
62wasn'tenough's picture

Sure, he will. And teams will always overthink this and get massive cranial cojones thinking they are smarter than everyone in the room. For evidence , see Zack Wilson over Fields.

HS
Nutinpa's picture

I see your point, footer, but Shawn Clifford was to James Franklin what JTB was to Urban Meyer. Both coaches decided that these 2 QBs were the guys they were going to battle with no matter what limitations they had on the field. In terms of wins and losses, both coaches were arguably vindicated.  No matter where any of us line up in these situations, the loss of Levis for PSU and the "one and done" for Dwayne Haskins (RIP) were the prices paid for those coaching decisions.

HS
GroverBuck's picture

Maybe, but I'm not certain Will Levis would actually have been impressive for PSU (I don't think he was super impressive with UK.) As much as I loved JTB I do think his regression plus wear and tear cost us a playoff birth. I don't think Levis would net any more wins for Franklin

HS
Nutinpa's picture

You could be right about that.  Levis's "day in the sun" when he played vs. the Buckeyes in the 2019 game when Clifford was hurt/ineffective, made him marketable.  He singlehandedly kept that game from being a complete rout, and it created his future, even if the perceptions of him were inflated.

Absolutely agreed.  Good thing weve recruited exceptionally over past 4 years and have Jim Knowles new staff onboard for another full year with more of his players.

HS
Hmrivera76's picture

We recruited exceptionally well I we the past four years?  How many misses have the buckeyes had on defense?   How many have left the program?  How many did DBs did we lose who eitehr we're committed or commitd somewhere else.  Not one single corner had an INT this past year.  I don't see too top draft picks in this bunch.  Remember the Clark kid that decommit d and went to Utah?  Progexted as a first round draft pick.

As I was looking at early 24 mocks, multiple had 7 Buckeyes taken in the first round which would be a record. Crazy thing was, they didn’t all have the same 7 guys. Here’s the list of potential first rounders:

  2. JTT
  3. Mike Hall
  4. Tyliek
  5. Jack Sawyer
  6. Cade
  7. Henderson

Mark,  there a handful of guys on your (or anyone else's) list that have a lot to prove in terms of whether they belong on the field....let alone becoming first round draft picks.  And, yes, to state the obvious, I am referring to the guys on Defense not named JT or Tommy E.

You're right NUT. We haven't done a great job of developing players in some position groups while doing an outstanding jobs in other areas. It slays me how Iowa and Wisconsin can have dominating defenses year in and year out with much less talented players while we struggle.

HS
Lighteyes's picture

Kind of surprised there's 11 different names and none of them is Kyle McCord. Yes, he hasn't won the job, but it seems very possible for McCord to basically replicate 2018 Haskins - win the job in spring, have a monster season in the fall, be a Heisman finalist, and leave as a first rounder.

It'd be a gutsy swing to take in your Very Very Very Early mock draft, but it seems like a very plausible swing to take.

The season is young. Hell yes we can still find our identity. I’m not worried on MBB. The ceiling hasn’t proved to be as high under Holtmann as it was under Matta, but for some reason I always feel hope for Holtmann’s teams. He’s going to have a lot returning and a lot coming in next year, so he’s definitely well positioned.

Not only does the mens team have no identity to go along with no offense or defense; they are really soft with very little heart and of course poorly coached. Even the "quality losses" to UNC and Duke don't look all that good now; this squad is in a race to the bottom of the B1G and surprisingly that race doesn't include Northwestern or Rutgers.

The skill positions are definitely stacked.  But please, let's not talk about the defense being stacked after  they laid an egg 3 times this year.  Why are we so excited about having ransom and cahmbers back?  Neither one played great in those three games.  Neither one made game changing plays when needed.  And let's not even talk about the fact that not one single corner had an INT this most year.   So many times yj DBs had a deer in the headlight look and either committed a PI or watched As the receiver caught the ball!  As the big ten gets better, I am quite concerned about this defense.

Hector m Rivera

HS
Nutinpa's picture

I agree with your general premise, but I will nitpick regarding Chambers.  He is among the LEAST of our worries on D going into next year.  He also made a nice pick against UGA in the Peach Bowl.  We know what we are getting with Steele.  Not saying he is the next Ryan Shazier, but again, he is not a worry going into next season.  The DBs?  Yes, a concern to state the obvious.

HS
OldTownBuckNut's picture

Anyone that would draft a 5'10" (on his tiptoes) 190lbs (dripping wet) Young over Stroud or Levis deserves what they get. Stroud (and Levis) are a full head taller than Young, and perhaps nothing matters more in the NFL than being a "big bodied QB" that can actually see over their offensive line. This is where people talk about Doug Flutie, Drew Brees, etc. His height alone should send Young to the CFL. But I digress. The reality is that one of the OTHER QB's on the list of 24 eligible for 2023 will be "the star." But how do you find them? How do you find the Brock Purdy on that list of 24? Yes, I know Stroud et al will go in the first round, but there's a guy on that list that people will say "how did he go that low?" Stroud to LV would be nice.

Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.

Regarding the Basket-less Bucks, maybe you could post AD Smith's email on this site so fans can let him know their opinions about the current edition of the men's hoops team. Maybe he has no idea how we feel about the job Coach Holt is doing. You know some of these college administrators live in an insular world devoid of any and all feedback from program constituents. Go ahead. Post his email address!

allinosu's picture

First of all, I don't like what I'm seeing on the court. Losing is bad enough but the appearance (to me) is he has lost the team. They are a lost team right now with an inadequate leader. That said the university isn't going to fire a coach(who still has a winning record this year) because the fans are unhappy over a losing streak. If they got into that habit no coach worth his salt would consider coaching here. It's going to take missing the dance once or twice with a losing record. I will say Gene screwed himself giving him an extension which probably raised the buyout considerably and with the athletic department trying to payoff an 80 mil loan for the covid year, makes firing him more unlikely at this point. These college administrators you are referring to leave it to Gene not to embarrass(like when they got involved with Urban) or cost the university money.
