From the very limited amount I’ve seen, his ball handling def needs work.

Only if Parks really wants to. Heart definitely makes a difference.

But with encouragement and hard work, he will be better.

Sounds like an aggressive guy. The video clip was a waste. Watching 57 dunks doesn't show me anything about his game.

There were kids much taller than 5' 11" in those clips! What a Fan Base for Basketball we have!

OK. But there was also at least one rebound, a block, and putting it on the floor to go around a guy.

More of that please.

Dayton C-J and St. Mary's are both D-2 in basketball, so parks and Washington could go head-to-head in the OSHAA Tournament at some point.

In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...

I like the fact that he really thinks Holtmann will be here for his entire tenure/contract, that this is so contrary to the narrative of 11W, and to be fair, writers like Doug Lesmeris, and probably a few more,

It is refreshing to realize that he can buy into the program before even arriving here to play.

Hes a top 100 ball player. Maybe not the glitter and doom that many here want to see from a big guy recruit, but not everyone can be Efton Reid,lol.. And even better...he has confidence in himself! Sees himself playing meaningful minutes alongside Opkara. So refreshing to read...

At this point you would have to be a Moron to think that a Coach who has won 20 games every season and gone to the NCAA Tournament Every Season and gone to the Round of 32 half of his appearances would be fired or even be on the Hot Seat. Doug Lesmeris and Goons at Eleven Warriors are about as creditable as 2 old drunk women talking about old drunk men!

Lmao the Goons at Eleven Warriors? You won't find more fair coverage of the hoops program anywhere else.

I'd rather listen/read 1W or Doug than the sunshine pumpers like Helwagen, Timmy Hall, Beau Bishop and Adam Jardy. Jardy is a necessary evil though...nobody gets more access to the program than he does and I begrudgingly admit that he's had some decent content lately. And to his credit he did say on a somewhat recent podcast that it was completely fair for fans to be frustrated that there's been ZERO conference titles or S16 appearances in Holtmann's five years.

I'll fully admit that myself and others are sometimes way too negative about the hoops program but absolute LMAO saying that Doug and 11W guys are as credible as two drunk women...unless those drunk women are my mom and my grandma, who are very very intelligent women

I would recommend not engaging with Buckeye Bob. I did it once and won't go there again, but to each their own. As for osu hoops local media, my takes:

11 Warriors- very solid, especially considering it is free content. I have criticized the recruiting coverage for basketball in the past, but I feel like it has improved a decent amount. I'd like some more in depth analytical stuff, especially in the slow offseason, but can't complain overall.

Adam Jardy- I don't think his basketball knowledge is great and have said that before, but as you mentioned, nobody has more inside coverage. He is the only reporter that attends every road game. Hell, most of the time he is the only reporter for osu at those road games. I don't think he is a homer at all, but he is also not the type to ask ballsy, critical questions to the coaching staff.

Steve Helwagen- he kind of underwhelms me when he is a guest on The Fan so I don't follow his coverage.

Doug Lesmerrises- I can't believe I am agreeing with Buckeye Bob, but Doug is garbage. I am sure he is much better with football coverage, but that podcast I listened to with him and Stephen Means about the basketball program was so ignorant and full of mistakes, I was in a state of shock. He made it clear he did not like the Holtmann hire very early on so I guess he decided to not really follow the program these last few years and just spew ignorant takes.

Beau Bishop- we listen to a lot of sports radio in my house (my wife more than me). Beau's hierarchy of topics on that show: osu football---college football---Browns--Bengals-- NFL----------CBJ/hockey------------------osu hoops/college basketball. I like Beau, but he (along with most of The Fan's staff) do not devote enough time to osu hoops to be called a "sunshine pumper" or a hater.

Timmy Hall- I will always defend Timmy Hall. He may be more positive than you or others care for but he talks more osu hoops/college hoops than Morning Juice, Beau, Rothman/Ice, Common Man and T-Bone do combined. The dude loves college hoops. He graduated from Kansas, makes road trips to sweet college arenas, and has a college hoops podcast called Mad About Hoops. He is knowlegeable and enthusiastic about osu hoops on a Columbus, Ohio radio station. We should cherish. The dude also came out and played hoops with my friends and myself on the 1st day of March Madness this year despite never meeting me (I dm'd him on Twitter). I'll take no Timmy Hall slander on here. Ha, ha.

I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.

HS
TheShookster's picture

Lol see that's a totally fair response.

Timmy seems like a good dude, so does Beau...I just think they praise Holtmann way more than he deserves. Jardy...yeahhhh I think we're on the same page there.

Doug is for sure even more negative than me and doesn't always have good takes (Stephen Means definitely doesn't know what hes talking about half the time) I just find Doug cathartic sometimes...like the voice of the frustrated fan!

As far as 11W goes its free and they actually seem to enjoy covering the basketball program, sometimes there's just not much to talk about unfortunately - but like you I crave the basketball info 24/7 and I just don't really think there's ever going to be a site that exists for us unless we create it. And I can admit that a few of the guys that work here are my good friends so I'm not gonna let "Buckeye" Bob slander them just like you won't accept my Timmy Hall slander haha

I just think they praise Holtmann way more than he deserves.

Seems to me that that Holtmann is judged on these forums strictly for Wins and Losses, and specifically that he his team(s) did not win a championship or get to Sweet 16, etc.

TOSU, OTOH, evaluates him (and his staff) on a number of other criteria. Those criteria seem to have little to absolutely no value to many of the 11W staff and posters here.

So it's hard to give much value to those who criticize those sportswriters who are, IMO, less harsh in their OSU hoops reporting.

My bitch with all of them is if it's on Twitter or another site they use it and that is the extent of their coverage, they do very little actual phone ringing or go get inside info or even try to. To put it another way very little effort in anything that they post! Then when they find something that they think will get hits they post 50 articles about it from about 7 different angles using the same info they post the original story from. Opinions of sports writers is not earth shattering news or story worthy. Get real content! I hate Pod Casts unless you get the actual subject (Holtman) or (Ryan Day) to give some input, not a public video with the writers input!

These stress fractures of today and the last decade are mostly a product of playing competitive basketball 11 months out of the year and not resting the bones. Most of these kids grow so fast that their bones become flawed from the pounding, If i were a trainer at a high school where Parks goes to school or his doctor I would tell him no jumping until HS Practice starts, only shooting one on nobody and make sure it gets healed. I have read a lot of what pediatricians have written on the subject and most of the time when it recurs it is because the kid is allowed to play when the bone is not healed fully, Diop finally took a season off and he had to have a rod inserted the damage was so bad.

HS

Stress fractures took me out of the military. Far more then 1 in each knee though. Agree 100% - the only real way to heal them properly is rest. Need some movement for blood flow, but low and no impact only.

Everything that happens-good and bad-should motivate you to be persistent. ~JT

Stress fracture in the knee. Very dangerous for a young man still developing. He should be advised to take a lot of time off and monitored to follow those instructions. It could go very badly for him if he rushes it and the Buckeyes will have another injury prone player. Sure hope not.

I have faith Parks can be a decent player for us in the future with Jack Owens coaching him

I think it was on Roth and Ice last week they asked Holtmann how Sueing is doing and it sounds like he's still a couple weeks away from being able to practice so yeah - I feel you guys. The injury shit is getting ridiculous.

I don't feel like doing the research on whether injuries are an Ohio State problem or a college basketball in general problem. Regardless of the right answer, when you construct a roster as poorly as Holtmann and the staff did last year, losing a guy like Sueing who could get you 10 and 5 a game hurts way more than it should. Whenever EJ or Malaki (or god forbid both) were on the bench, our offense just flat out didn't work. Our entire offense was just Malaki and EJ hitting contested jumpers, just think about how good those two were...13th ranked offense in KenPom!!! Just thinking about the awful team our staff built around EJ and Malaki makes me so damn mad - but looking ahead to this year our offense should be able to work fine no matter who's on the court and hey our defense literally could not get any worse so I still feel like I'm not crazy in thinking that this years roster is actually good and there's no reason for us to not contend for a B1G title or make the S16.
