Think it’s going to be the blue bloods or Michigan state. They were the overwhelming favorites before his big rise. Be the biggest get of holtmanns tenure at OSU though. Certainly would go from one of the smallest teams in the Big 10 to arguably the biggest next year with etzler, key, okpara, parks and booker all above 6’8. Be a nice change to dominate the boards for once.

Thought so as well but this story brings some heightened hope that OSU can secure his talent.

Beg to differ. We are right in the thick of it and will be right to the end. I more than like our chances.

Diebler and Holtmann are on a mission to get this kid. Should be all buckeye when it is said and done.

Unrelated to Booker, but does anyone more plugged into BB recruiting than me know why we never seemed to have much of a chance with Chris Livingston? Guy grew up in Akron his entire life but we never really seemed to be in it?

HS

Kentucky got him. It isn't like we lost him to Indiana or something. We aren't going to get many top guys that are considering Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, etc. Nike money runs deep.

HS

Yeah I don't think Livingston was ever going to come to OSU anyways.

When it comes to talented Ohio kids leaving the state, this is well down the list for me (with Luke Kennard being at the top)

He wasn't coming here. Never had a lot of interest. Plus One and done guy who can create chemistry issues. No loss IMO

Probably will be a composite top 20 player and the best prospect out of high school that Holtmann would have landed if he can do it.

HS

Hope we get him but first we need to start going deeper in the dance to have a chance at more of the top recruits. Maybe this year can start a slow build to that position.

HS
Bucks19's picture

Actually can be the opposite. You sell the players on "taking us to the promised land. Be THAT guy".

I agree we need to start advancing further in March, but it seems inaccurate to say it has had a major negative impact on recruiting given we have the #1 class in the Big 10 and #6 in the country this upcoming season.

I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.

Good stuff! Thanks

top 60 guys, in Ohio, out of Ohio are toatlly must gets for Holtmann, he did pretty good for 2022, so this should not be too daunting a task, even with Mr. K and Duke after him(oh, forgot, they have a new coach, lol)

HS
BuckeyeBen7.7's picture

A daunting task? No. An easy get? No. A MUST get? Also no.

He’s a Midwest kid, but he’s not from Ohio. His stock is rising fast, with a great chance of lots of the big boys getting involved. This is not to say that Holtmann and staff can’t get it. But it’s not going to be easy, and to put him in the must get category is setting yourself up for disappointment.

He's from Indiana.

Seemed an inclusive comment...in Ohio, out of Ohio...as I was aware he was from out of state...and The fact that our 2022 class was all out of state except for Hardman came to mind as well. Could be lost in translation, perhaps...I live in the middleeast, so I wake up speaking Hebrew and sometimes my english phrasing gets lost in translation...but, hey, thanks for correcting(?) my 'murican.

Several teams have new coaches besides Duke. Villanova, Louisville, Florida, Maryland, LSU, Georgia, Kansas State, Seton Hall, South Carolina, Missouri and Xavier.

Definitely would love Royal and Booker to be in the 2023 class. If we could get Scotty Middleton too...that would be a damn good class.

For all the bitching we've done regarding centers during the Holtmann era, having Okpara and Booker would be more than enough to shut all of us up

I think that you underestimate the Eleven Warriors commentariat…

HS
BuckeyeBen7.7's picture

The 2023 would have Key (6’8”), Okpara (6’11”), Parks (6’10”), Etzler (6’9”), and Booker (6’10”). We’d have one of the largest front courts in the Big Ten.

HS
Buckeye_bob's picture

Etzler is listed at 6' 8" maybe

HS
Bucks19's picture

Until we make an elite 8 run, the bitching and moaning will never quit. Then if we lose in the elite 8, there will be bitching about why we can't go the the Final Four. That is just how it works on here.

Notice he brought up the size of the Schott... while many fans byatch about it  the recruits wow at it...gives then the NBA feel ...

Kid looks like a project to me! He is thinner that Alonzo Gaffney who was rated higher than him.

HS
Osufan19's picture

Gaffney wanted to be a small forward and the coaches tried to play him in the post. This guy is a post all the way. Decent comparison but different IMHO

Osu fan

HS
BuckeyeBen7.7's picture

It also sounds like Gaffney was a bit of an entitled head case, which never helps.

HS
Bucks19's picture

Well Bob....you are 100% wrong. Kid does need to put on weight but is NOT a project. Not even close.

HS
Buckeye_bob's picture

Soooo is The Kid does need to put on weight, as I said he is Thin!  and he is in High School rated lower than Gaffney but he is not a project? Looks like I was at least 50% right? Huh? So you know him or watched him play a lot? What are you basing the comment that he is not a project on?

HS
Bucks19's picture

He is not a project BASED on I have seen him IN PERSON a number of times.

Thin? Yes. Project? Nope.  He has skills WELL BEYOND Gaffney. Don't care what Gaffney's ranking was.

HS

Love how Xavier Booker is a worker. Sounds like he plays 7 days a week 365 days a year with no problem. Never understand how our players have nagging injuries all the time. Seth Towns, Meechie, Kyle Young, Sueing...I want guys like Booker who can play.

HS
Buckeye_bob's picture

How do you know he won't get injured? I mean you guys are nuts! You know the kid isn't a project, you know he is going to go through his entire college career and not be injured, what gave you such a hard on for him? He is rated at 61 that means he has work to do and might play meaningful minutes his first year. Can you see him defending guys who are 6' 10 - 255 in the Big Ten? I'll bet he can't defend Zed right now!

HS
OSU069's picture

You know he’s been moving way up the ratings right? Like he’s number 2 overall in the new rivals rankings and will absolutely be higher than Gaffney.

HS
Bucks19's picture

No sht Sherlock, errr I mean Bob......He can't defend Key right now. Neither can 95% of HS seniors to be. That is called growth and maturity. You are really trying too hard to cut him down.
