It's a function of having the right personnel, but also having the coach make the right call in the moment. Coach Knowles is clearly better than Coombs, but he needs someone in his ear to tell him to cool it sometimes. Sometimes, it is ok to play a bend, don't break style. We will see what happens in the offseason.

Talking Stuff Updates (Sorry if Keith beats me!)

-Per Birm, OSU needs to take off the gloves as it relates to NIL, especially if NCAA won't enforce the rules

-Ryan Day and Pantoni are reluctant because of how NIL can affect the locker room, but it's impacting recruiting so much that they will have to play the game

-Per Birm, the Damon Wilson recruitment would have been done months ago in the old world of college football and he would have been at Ohio State, but NIL singlehandedly changed that

-Both Birm and AE say that it's normal to lose a 5-star to Georgia or Bama, but it cannot lose guys who are basically enrolled to schools like Auburn or the U making late pushes

-Lesser programs are emboldened by the NIL business and throwing money at recruits because they know that OSU isn't playing the same NIL game that Georgia and Bama are

-Per Birm, OSU in wait and see mode with Lincoln Kienholz, who seems pretty torn

-Birm expects to add a back-up QB in the portal at some point

-Birm says that we're in a really tough spot with RB right now, but with the room as is, we can probably make it through this cycle if everyone stays

-AE says that we will most likely take two RBs in 2024

-No concern about any of the WRs at this point in the cycle, with signing day two weeks away

-With the Wilson coaching change, gonna watch Jelani Thurman and Auburn, especially if Auburn decides to deploy their NIL war chest on Jelani Thurman

-Per Birm, it doesn't look great for any of the three big DEs

-For Damon Wilson, it sounds like they were able to win Damon's dad over in Georgia on his last visit, but Ryan Day is doing an in-home with him later

-For Damon Wilson, the NIL amount that Georgia has allotted for him is out of this world

-MU might be influenced by where DJ goes, and there might be a conversation had in Columbus about bringing him in, but he would have to be ok with being a back-up and not the day 1 starter

-Things looks very good with Josh Mickens

-Arion Carter will most likely stay in the south, sadly

-Birm thinks, like the other Rivals insiders, that Tommy E. and Steele Chambers will be back next season

-AE thinks it's crazy how Tackett Curtiss can watch the USC defense and still be committed to play for Alex Grinch

-Probably gonna stick with just Arvell Reese at LB

-Per Birm, Miami is throwing the NIL bag at Jermaine Matthews and he is scheduled to take a visit there

-AE doesn't think Miami isn't a threat right now, but it's a situation to watch

-AE strongly hinting that Jermaine Matthews has already scheduled his classes at Ohio State

-Birm doesn't think Matthews will make the trip, but a lot can change between now and signing day

-Birm notes the pursuit of Fentrell Cypress in the portal as an indication that Ohio State is trying to have its bases covered

-As it relates to Kayin Lee, a couple of schools are preparing a NIL push for him

-The currently committed safeties are locked in

-As it relates to Caleb Downs, we might get a pleasant surprise on signing day, but it's by no means a done deal

-Downs isn't an idiot and knows that Alabama's coaching staff won't be the same after signing day

-Birm and AE aren't optimistic, but don't count out OSU yet on Caleb Downs

I will say this: I do not envy being a college coach right now. It seems like the world of CFB is going insane and it would be impossible to keep up.

Has Birm or anybody else given a reason as to why OSU can't hang onto CB commits? We have at least one of these every cycle and it's strange. I recognize that we still have CSH and Jermaine Matthews, but this is kind of strange.

The Thin Red Line is one that I have owned for years but never put on. Gonna have to knock it out one of the these days. PTA is a hot or cold director for me. I loved The Master and really enjoyed Boogie Nights and Inherent Vice, but I didn't quite connect with There Will Be Blood. I did watch it when I was younger and it probably will be much better upon a review. Thank goodness for the winter break coming up and I can catch up on some movies!

I got my degree in film studies from Ohio State, so this thread was absolutely made for me lol. That new #1 is very strange, I have never heard of it. I can only list my five favorite films. That's such a hard task in the first place but here we go.

GoodFellas (Martin Scorsese, 1990)

Zodiac (David Fincher, 2007)

The Social Network (David Fincher, 2010)

Mulholland Drive (David Lynch, 2001)

The Godfather Part II (Francis Ford Coppola, 1974)

What sucks is that there are so many that could fill that number five spot...and this doesn't even begin to touch all of the amazing foreign films that I have seen, especially from Japan.
