I don't think enough attention is being brought to the recruiting negatives for OSU....or the negatives of trying to compete for a NC.

I don't think the West coast schools will poach ALL of our talent or even a substantial amount. But I do think we should be prepared to lose battles for Ohio kids that we normally won. Living with an NIL contract in sunny california may be hard to pass up for a young man. Other schools like PSU, scUM, Purdue, Sparty, etc. will have a similar problem. Having said that, on balance, I think it will be a net positive for us.

With a strong USC, we may lose a couple of conference titles and lose a shot at being in the playoffs (with or without expansion). Under the current system we are most likely out. With an expanded playoff system, that's less of a concern.

I'm up for the challenge and I think this will be great for the program in the long run.

The Earle Bruce Columbus coaching tree, which includes future OSU head coaches Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer, as well as Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, Dom Capers, Glenn Mason, Gary Blackney and Mark Dantonio is now jeopardized

That is the most interesting point.

Perhaps Woody stays on and hires those coaches anyway.  Further suppose that those coaches develop the same skills under Woody as they  did under Bruce. If not....well that's potentially a LOT of football history being thrown away.

I never understood our fascination with playing in the snow and/or cold. Our fanbase hasn' gotten over the loss to Sparty in the rainstorm and yet we want to do the same to Bama? Even if we won the matchup, none would ever respect us. There would be a giant * next to the game....just as we put on that L to Sparty. Some of our fans point to light rain against scUM this year as a reason for our loss (despite the fact that OSU let a mediocre offense with a mediocre HB run all over their D). I see no reason to want a victory with an *.

Gene is right to lobby for Indy.

Smith on the Michigan loss: "Our expectation is every year to win that game. So how do we respond?" Smith says he wanted to help Day fix things in the program following the Michigan loss, and that making changes on defense was a top priority.

It's nice to have an AD, and Board of Trustees, willing to win.

Smith says there haven't been discussions about having a formal class for student-athletes about NIL

Big mistake. This needs to be here yesterday. At the very least, add a few sessions to real life weds. That and a basic finance course.

I enjoy this series. It brings up painful memories but I like playing the what if game.

I'm not sure I agree with the outcome. Certainly a 30+ point deficit is a HUGE barrier in any argument. However, I think the Buckeyes put an end to their momentum if Iowa is forced to punt. At worst, we run the clock out and prevent another Iowa score at half. Bosa was ejected with 3:12 left in the 2nd qtr. JT also threw an interception on the next possession. 14 points down at half...vs. a tie.

If Zwick is still our starting QB to end the year, and doesn't lose to Troy by the 2006 years, I'm not sure we beat scUM in either year. Smith was a huge part of those victories. I don't think Zwick could pull off some of the theatrics by Troy in those games.

I'm sad to see him go. He's been a overall positive addition to our staff despite these last two years.

He's even taught me a lesson in humility and being a team player. The man was demoted publicly and did the best he could to see the team succeed. Not once did he complain publicly. Instead, he displayed true leadership.

I learned that this team lacked leadership in the locker room. If all it took for the defense to play well was a speech from McCall then I'm looking forward to seeing a fixed defense next season....provided that we find a strong leader next year. I have to imagine that the team understands that as well and will try to duplicate "the McCall effect".
