First game - 1978. So that starts with Woody and then all the way through Coaches Bruce and Cooper and Tressel and Fickell and Meyer and now it's a new Day. Go Buckeyes.

I quit caring / paying attention ten plus years ago when the Lighty and Diebler team moved on. That’s the last bunch that played hard and played sound. Now I just accept that we are a football school. I don’t have the bandwidth in my advancing years to worry about everything. Football and Cleveland Guardians is enough. I gave up watching basketball and almost all the NFL and every other college football except the Buckeyes. It’s been much better these last ten or more years.

Wasn’t there a seven year quarterback from Rutgers we could get. Noah Vedral, isn’t that his name? I just wonder why you would transfer somewhere and it’s likely you will never play. The impact on the team is so insignificant I can’t believe I am posting about it. I need some new hobbies.

#12 has shown he has some great skills. He is human and has had some goofs too. I like having guys who have a high top end rather than guys who are safe and ordinary. Safe and ordinary gets us to 9-3, we need some risk and reward guys to get to 12-0.

He was a backup. Other than the character in his name I can’t remember any big play he ever made. Another guy will get the highly coveted single digit jersey number and JJB will be forgotten in 48 hours. Oh and now he will actually have to go to class according to his head coach. Perhaps this comment is a bit harsh with some snarky in it. But I have been working where I am for 20 years now. People come, people go, the next week you go and do your job with the people that are there and the people who left you soon forget them. Caden Curry will take his number and play better. In keeping with the name I say bonjour.

I am going to choose NOT to hang my basketball hat on 1960-1962. We laugh our asses off at ttun because their last undisputed national championship was in 1948. Pointing to 1960 and thumping our chest is equally pointless. And does it FEEL like we have the 12th best basketball program of all time? Whatever that means I'm not feeling it.

I will stand by my point that we are a football school. Because we are.

Dear Chief, Well there is a reason not to be excellent at both - because we are a football school. I will wait silently over here humming the Final Jeopardy theme while you identify the schools that are great at football and basketball. Like a unicorn or a dodo, you can't find one. And strike that, it's not about just being great. It's about the narrative around your school. Kentucky and Duke and North Carolina and Kansas are basketball schools. Nobody disputes that - they have earned it over a generation or more. Alabama and Georgia and Clemson and Ohio State are football schools. Do all of these schools have good to great teams in other sports on a regular or semi-regular basis - yes, sort of. Does anybody in the sports universe sit around and wonder how the Alabama basketball team is going to do next year. Not one. Is everybody wondering what Saban is going to do after missing the CFP this season - yeah, millions do. And why do they do that? Because Alabama is a football school, and so is the Ohio State University.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. I am excited for #35 to return. He plays hard. However, there are two five-star linebackers named Hicks and Powers, and others named Carrico and Melton, who have to wait another year for meaningful playing time in a 4-2-5 defense when both starters are experienced, effective, and coming back. If either of those guys or others I might not be thinking of decide to hit the portal, the naysayers will be out in droves. But it's just physics - action and reaction. When any player who COULD leave doesn't LEAVE then the reactions down the roster could be impactful. We'll see but I will take the cup full today.

If Hicks or Powers or Carrico or Melton now leave because they have to wait another year the vultures will be out about Day and recruiting and the portal. Only 11 guys play at a time. When guys who COULD leave DON’T leave then youngsters might take a second look at whether this is the right place to be. Excited about #35 but every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

I was a student when Coach Miller was the coach. My brother was staff at the university and part-time student. Jimmy Crum called for Eldon to be let go on his news broadcast. Weaselly little sawed off old fucker - wasn’t his place to editorialize regardless of his feelings. Don’t make yourself the news.

When they had a news conference my brother went down to the arena and went in. Some low level guy said this is for press only - my brother was a full sized guy and told him to stick it up his ass. Then he yelled at Jimmy Crum and said “ this is my university and my coach and a horse’s ass like you wouldn’t even have a job in this town without Ohio State.” Then he turned around and stomped out.

Jimmy Crum can still go fuck himself even if he’s dead.

I solved my basketball worries. After that last good Matta team with Lighty and Diebler that played hard and sound basketball, I just accepted that we are a football school and if basketball is good, that’s nice, and if not well then I read a book or watch a movie and get ready for spring training baseball. It’s one of the better life decisions I made in the last decade. Do you think they really care at Kentucky or Kansas that their football teams started 5-0 and ended 7-6. They don’t care because those are BASKETBALL schools. We don’t need to care about Holtmann because we are a FOOTBALL school.

Lots of great games and effort from #7. Wish we had a few more Wins but we never had a horrible game where the team just crapped. Second half against ttun was bad but they are a good team. I still rate the losses to Sparty and Clemson and Iowa and Purdue from 2015 to 2018 as worse. I despise ttun but they have the most wins ever and the biggest stadium- they should be battling us every year. I would still take 17-4 this century over ttun rather than the flip of that.

In regards to the legacy of Stroud- the quarterback room for the Buckeyes is the place to be. We will get another quarterback ready for 2023.

I am going back to previous comments about basketball and just change the responses to numbers - because the issues are the same, instead of having to type over and over I will just assign a number to "injuries blah blah, second half collapses blah blah. we're working through it blah blah."  Folks, doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. We're already there this season and we will hear the same excuses for the next 60 days, with just enough good games thrown in to tease us. Oh well, we're a football school.

Ttun had highest yards per play ever. Then Georgia had higher yards per play. Every coach talks turnovers and penalties and big plays. We were not hurt by turnovers against Georgia, nor by penalties, but were gashed for big plays. And we lost. Knowing what to do and not to do is not the same as doing it and not doing it. We need to do better and have something unexpected. I never saw it.

That touchdown he scored in the Georgia game got swallowed up in the loss. I don’t even know what to call that play  -  does “ middle wheel route “ capture it? Straight up the middle, a good catch, then yards after the catch and a spin move to the end zone. I was jumping off my couch and screaming so loud I sent two of my three cats sprinting out of the room - the other cat knows to go hide in the back of the closet when it’s a Buckeyes game because I jump and yell- a lot. Okay, back to Xavier- he is a great effort team player and when you stack up his results he is an important member of the team. Glad to see him back.
