He has been terrible for the NCAA. A leadership void at a time when college athletics are sorely in need of some.

It was a bit of a surprise when he left UW, but I don't get the impression that anyone out here was very sorry to see him go. Sounds like all of his past employers could say the same.

It's no different than being the president of a major corporation; still have to answer to the CEO, the board, maybe govt regulators, investment bankers, etc.... There's always someone, unless you're king.

For the same reason that different guys generally do the punting and place-kicking. Different skill sets.

Buckeye trivia; Vic Janowicz did the punting and place kicking, in addition to being the premier RB. He once punted 21 times in a game for 685 yards, a record that, god forbid, will never be broken. Oh, and he won the Heisman Trophy along the way.

I'm a bit concerned with his recruiting. Not much to show for his first year. I realize that most recruiting involves a multi-year commitment to developing relationships, so we'll have to wait and see how he does, but he can't have another year like this one, or he's not the guy.

You could be right, I don't follow the ACC, and haven't paid much attention to him since he got the job, but he was the odds-on favorite the last time around. The presidents and BOT's are by nature a conservative bunch, so whomever we hire has to be someone with vision, and exceptional communication skills, neither of which were in KW's wheelhouse.

While it's certainly true that the presidents make all of the decisions, it's the Commish's job to be the face of the conference, and to communicate their decisions clearly and effectively. This is where Warren was an abject failure. He was almost totally invisible during those early days and, when he did show up to speak, he looked like a deer in the headlights. He was clearly not ready for the big (or B1G) league. I hope the B1G does much better this time around.

IDK, Hartline may be qualified for OC, but we don't really know. He can recruit and coach WR's as good as anyone has ever done it anywhere, anytime. But, we have fallen for the great position coach, great recruiter, obviously-will-make-a-great-coordinator fallacy more than once. See: Coombs, Kerry (and Warriner, Ed; Beck, Tim, etc, etc.)   In my ideal world, he keeps doing his thing with WR's and we go get a proven, big-time OC (like we thought we were getting with Knowles.... jury is still out on that, we'll see.)

I don't care nearly enough about soccer to read the article, so I appreciate your synopsis. One of the 'school' families that I see regularly at seemingly every function, is really into soccer (they're European, go figure.)  Their daughter plays year-round, and I gather it does cost a small fortune for coaches fees, club fees, whatever. On top of that, they're seem to be constantly traveling for a multi-day tournament somewhere, usually in another state, that at least involves much driving, hotels, and food, if not airfare. The expense involved for that level of participation would indeed limit the pool of potential players.

While we're on the cost-of-access subject, IMG Academy costs somewhere in the 70-85K range. Where does all of that $$ come from? I've always wondered.
