I am still high on Kourt Williams, if he can overcome his injury situation.  He was kind of the forgotten man on the team this year in my opinion.  He had a breakout game in the Rose Bowl similar to Tommy Eichenberg , but did not get the chance to parlay it into a great 2022 season.

This is all reflective of the rules changes that promote scoring to the extent that you need an offence that can score 40+ points to win a playoff game.  There really isn't a great way to do that without a top notch passing attack... as UM has found out.    I, like Oldebucke, miss the old 17-10 type games where a touchdown was actually meaningful, and in some cases devastating.   Now teams debate whether to let the opposition score a TD so they can get the ball back. Can you imagine letting UM score a TD during the 10 year war?   For those who weren't there the scores of the 10 year war were: 24-12, 20-9, 10-7, 14-11, 10-10, 12-10, 21-14, 22-0, 14-6, 14-3.... Yeah, yeah, that was ancient history, but I liked the game better then!

Out of those metros I would rank the probability of a team as:

San Antonio- but of course Jerra would object

Portland- but where would they play?  An ownership group would probably have to spring for their own stadium

Sacramento- Close to the Bay area, that just lost a team

Austin- closer to Dallas than even San Antonio and Jerra

Orlando- Jacksonville is already struggling and Tampa Bay is not exactly Green Bay or Dallas as far as fan support

St. Louis- Has lost 2 teams and the city hates the NFL right now

Inland Empire- No real identity as a region, would essentially be LA's third team

To me it more likely would be San Diego, the league may feel they "owe" them a franchise, but given the direction the NFL is trying to go, it would not shock me if it was Mexico City or maybe even 4 European franchises to create a Euro division- London A, London B, Frankfurt and Munich.

I mean Columbus borders 5 franchises' territories, and has a large contingent of fans of 3 of them.  The longest drive is a toss up between Detroit and Pittsburgh and that is only just over 3 hours,   KC, for example is over an 8 hour drive from any other NFL city and has no significant group of fans of another franchise in town.   Honestly, even if Ohio State was located in say, Akron, Columbus is not very well positioned to have an NFL team just due to where it is located in relation to other NFL teams.

In that era it was insanely more difficult to throw the ball than it is now.  Offensive linemen had to have their hands in contact with their body when blocking, DB's could contact receivers all the way down the field until the ball was in the air.  Offensive holding was a 15 yard penalty, Ineligible receiver downfield and intentional grounding were 15 yards AND LOSS OF DOWN.    Add to this that there really had not been the creative energy expended on creating a dangerous pass attack by the top coaches in the game at that point, and you get the type of stats that a Rex Kern put up making him third in the Heisman voting.

I don't know, NHL coaches get fired at the drop of a hat, and Ohio State has really only fired 3 basketball coaches in the past 60 years. I mean in 2019 the Blues fired their coach and went on to win the Stanley Cup.  I would say just structurally that Larsen is more on the hot seat, along with the fact that I fully expect, based on the typical Holtmann year, that the team revives, makes the tournament and then loses in the first round, giving Ohio State a very tough decision.  If Ohio State somehow continues its poor play to the point of not getting a NCAA bid then I think Holtmann is gone.

No, but he shouldn't be made head coach of the school that his father screwed out of a big 10 title by an unprecedented on court mugging, that if it happened today, would probably result in the school being suspended from Big10 play for at least 1 year, if not given the death penalty.

This may be true, but I just hate watching a team that does nothing but chuck 3's all day.   It makes the outcome of the game based more on luck than skill.  Unless you have a Stephan Curry or someone similar, you are going to lose one just based on chance even if you accomplish what you want to do otherwise.  I guess if that is the only way you have a chance then..OK, it will be like the old Rick Pitno Providence teams in the 80's, but you will lose on the night you are not hitting your shots.

I feel like we now need to see major progress, like a trip to the Elite 8 at a minimum, for Holtmann to save his job.   If we do the normal thing after our normal crappy January (agian!), i.e.  get hot at the end, make the tourney as a mid seed and lose in the first or second round he needs to be gone, as that is all he is ever going to do.

Holtmann's teams are also brutal to watch, making many unforced mistakes and seemingly every time we get a lead it is more that the other team is messing up rather than we are dominating, and the lead always seems to evaporate like water on hot concrete on a sunny day.

Those losses against KY in 2011 and in the Final Four against Kansas in 2012 are getting more and more frustrating over the years as we slip into basketball mediocrity.

If you were paying attention at the beginning of the whole season cancellation saga, Warren was successful in accomplishing his main goal, which didn't have anything to do with college sports.    When I try to find the original article that documented this fact, lo and behold it is not findable with the assistance of any major search engine.   So at this point, he is ready to move on to his next role, knowing he took care of his assignment in his last role.

We have to make sure there is one more season with us being one play away from winning the national title.   To be honest it lends more credence to the actual possibility we are being screwed out of it. At the real risk of sounding like a bitter PSU or UM fan, what are the odds that one school is always one play or one call away from winning it all, is it bad luck or something else?

If JSN falls to the Chiefs, people are going to get as tired of the Chiefs as they currently are of the Patriots.  Good thing for the rest of the league that the Chiefs have some strange aversion to drafting players from Ohio State.

I remember the old East West shrine game for Ohio high school all stars played in early December in the shoe, in fact it was my first visit to the shoe!   I spent most of the game walking around the stadium exploring rather than watching the game!   This must have been about 1974 or 1975....

I have come around on it. After being dismayed for a few days, after returning to work on Tuesday, most of the fans of other teams remark about either how good a game it was, or what an unlucky kick outcome we had, basically saying we outplayed them and deserved to win.  In as much as possible it seems amazingly, for once we are getting "credit" in the eyes of people for a winning performance even in a loss, which is not the same as a win itself, but not the disaster that it seemed at the time

In one of Woody's early books he mentioned that he was concerned that Jim Parker who weighed 255 might be too heavy to effectively play, as Woody was skeptical that anyone that weighed over 240 had enough stamina to play a full game.  Now with all the breaks they have when it takes 4 hours to play a game, I think I have enough stamina to play today's game.  Now size, strength and speed...yeah no...

I would love to see a good old fashioned 17-10 game that lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes that had a couple of goal line stands.  Those of us that can remember the 1972 UM game that we won 14-11 did not go away from that game thinking, "Wow what a boring game".

I was thinking, what was the cheapest rot gut that could plausibly be called bourbon could you use to drown your sorrows after such a dissappointing game and save the good stuff for a victory over UM or in the playoffs.
