osu recruits at an extremely high level every year. if you dont compete and work hard, there's an entire crop of freshman the coaches recruited to come and take your spot. 

20-30 years ago, you goto class, practice, work your way up the depth chart, and the coaches favored upperclassmen and the freshmen either redshirted or had to "pay their dues"

but with the transfer portal in play and with freshmen entering college these days ready to go out of the gates, the number of transfers leaving osu will usually be greater than incoming. plus other schools want our talent and will be poaching our players and selling them on playing time and NIL

Add in NIL payments AND claim conference superiority and getting to play in relatively great weather conditions week in/week out, there’s not much of a reason why a stud LBer from GA would come north to osu instead of staying south.
