We recruited exceptionally well I we the past four years? How many misses have the buckeyes had on defense? How many have left the program? How many did DBs did we lose who eitehr we're committed or commitd somewhere else. Not one single corner had an INT this past year. I don't see too top draft picks in this bunch. Remember the Clark kid that decommit d and went to Utah? Progexted as a first round draft pick.

The skill positions are definitely stacked. But please, let's not talk about the defense being stacked after they laid an egg 3 times this year. Why are we so excited about having ransom and cahmbers back? Neither one played great in those three games. Neither one made game changing plays when needed. And let's not even talk about the fact that not one single corner had an INT this most year. So many times yj DBs had a deer in the headlight look and either committed a PI or watched As the receiver caught the ball! As the big ten gets better, I am quite concerned about this defense.
Guess you didn't see the last three games?
I for one am not a Ransom fan. If he is so good back there, why did the defense give up all those points and yards against MAryland, Michigan and Georgia? I think we have more talented and bigger guys that can play back there.
Hoe many of thsoe guys are either sitting or transfer? Mitchell is one and proctor too. And we had to move a RB to LB. Why? Go back and look at the OSU Alabama game. Check out the LBs and DBs and tell me this team is physically the same. Sawyer was a non factor in the bowl game. We have better coaches.
So a year starting and not showing he deserves to start is what teams that win titles do? Throw him out there again and expect a different result? He's just not talented enough. That's the bottom line. Nothing against the kid but come on. He made too many mistakes. It's time to move on.
I agree,if he doesn't start, he's gone. I'll bet my $500k condo he's better than Chambers. Chambers is a nice player but lest face, he wouldn't start at a school like Georgia, Alabama, penn State or Texas. He's just not big enough. He struggled against big backs and good OLs. Let's face it, our defense lostbthose games. Can't keep throwing the same guys out there and expect a different result.
Buckeyes need to find someone to start besides ransom and Chambers. They are decent players but not big tim football players. I don't recall chambers name being mentioned all game. These two guys just aren't big enough to play at any big time school.
I personally don't think ransom is a big time school safety. He would not start at any of the big time schoola. He's not big enough nor good enough back there. If he starts next year, this team will again suffer for it. I hope knowes playsnthe best players and I hope buckeyes have someone better or this defense will no be better.
Buckeyes lack the talent on the defensive side of the ball. Yes they may be 4 stars but they usually are a lot smaller then what you see at the big SEC sxhools. And we lack depth too. We lost Clark tomutah and he's projedted as a forstbrounder. Who on the back end do buckeyes have today on the roster that will be a first rounder? Can't continue to miss on talented DBs and expect any coach to win atitle with them. Imo ransom can not be the starter. I'm also would like a bigger stringer guy instead of chambers. Can't really his name being called once during the game. Chambers wouldn't start at any big time school, why should he start at Ohio state, a school that wants to win titles?
Here's the number that was important in the playoff game, 1. Yes 1! We needed 1 stop and didn't get it. That's the statistic that was important, 1.
We need talent, top talent! Talent trumps everything. That what this defense lacks. If you think having the undersized chambers back is a win, then we won't be much better on defense. Michigan nded up playing a Fr at croner and the guy delivered. Why? Maybe bc he has talent.
Few thoughts. Chambers is a nice player but not a big time LB. Ask yourself if he'd start at Georgia, Alabama, LSU penn state or Michigan? Most people would say no. Then ask yourself if he'd get drafted to play LB in the NFL. He struggled against big backs. He's just not big enough nor strong enough. Again, nice player but not a guy the buckeyes should have as a starting LB.
Let's just cut to the chase. They abckend lacks the talent needed to win a title. Due to coaching changes , recruiting Misses and transfers, this group will never see an NFL roster. Go back to the 2014 team and look at the differences between the players on that team with this team. Good players make coaches good. Great talented players make coaches great!
With that, it's beyond me why Day has not had success in the portal. And the recruiting Misses will still haunt this team as we missed on more top talent. And how THe Ohio State University is outbid is a joke!!!
Also chambers is just too small to play against big SEC backs. This team lacks the physical talent in many positions.
Get Great players and we'll have a great coach!
It I am not mistaken Ricks won a starting job late in the season. But for every bust there are successes. TCU bright in a corner that is the best on the team. Michigans starting center was great. And they ahve seven transfers coming in. There are many good players out there. The bottom line is that we don't have the depth nor the talent at the back end to compete. Th DBs are soft and have gotten beat all year. Here's an interesting fact, nomcorner had an Int this year! I'm betting not too many teams have had their corners without an INT!
If we're depending on just CJ to bring it then what you're saying is we have to outscore them? Let's not forget some of my points I made. The fact that this team is not physical up front. The WRa aren't great blockers and a WR didn't get on the field if they didn't buy in to blocking. Our run game is horrible against physical defenses. I watch a lot of college football and marvel at how some QBs lay it all on the line. I don't see that in CJ. By that I mean he hasn't been willing to put his body on the line and pick up tough needed yards. And he has made some very poor decisions and has gotten away with with most of them. He throws a great ball and has great touch. But he doesn't have the IT factor.
Everyone not named Hartline must be put on notice. Missed on big time recruits on just about every position except WR. Michigan signed 7 from the portal. What are they doing different? We're way behind on Nil deals! And someone please tell me when was the last time The Ohio State University didn't sign a RB in a class? Day better light a fire under some coaches asses, not only on the recruiting trail but also on the coaching aspect of things too!
I watched a reply of the Alabama oau game in 2015. Here's the difference between the two.
The toughness at QB. Cardell was an animal and fearless.
The tough ess on the OL was better
The NFL talent on the 2015 team all around is better.
The WRs willingness to block was better on the 2015 team.
The physicallity of the defense was better.
The 2015 DBs were bigger and stronger.
Zeke was a beast of which this team doesn't have.
This year's team has very talented WRs. That's probably the only position better than the 2015 team.
I hope being agressive doesn't mean stupid throws into tight coverage. CJ has had a history of making porr decisions and not getting out of the pocket quick enough and pickup some yards. He doesn't seem to have a great pocket presence. He sits back there waiting and waiting for someone to get open. And many times he makes I'll advised throws. He has gotten away with them before the Michigan game.
Eithwr way, the DB room has been decimated by transfers, de commits and misses. We can all agree it is the weakest position on the team. All of thise misteps have hurt the team. And not getting any transfers in hurt the depth. They lack physicality and talent. Day should have brought a couple DBs in and the hell with who getsvtheir feelings hurt.
We basically had to outscore them and we didn't. Day lacks creativity and loses track of the flow of the game. Maybe it's bc he is on the field calling plays. And as far as creativity goes, they knew we would get Johnson the ball if he was in. We knew they knew we would get Johnson the ball. Why didn't we use him as decoy on that swing pass? There were 3 Michigan defenders over there. Fake the throw to the left then do something to the right!!!
Agree. Thosw two running plays reminded me of the ones we gave up against Oregon. There was absolutely no one on that side of the ball. On The pass plays, players just messed up. And I still can't believe that our DBs continue to not see the ball or make a okay on the ball. Why?
I hope CJ doesn't interrupt aggressive with being careless and making poor decisions. I too think he could have run the ball more. Maybe make a decision earlier to get out. He seems to lack that ability to know when to get out of the pocket quickly and run. If the buckeyes don't ring up big numbers on offense, we may have to depend on the defensive backfield. Yeah that scares me!
The difference in those teams and this team, is those teams actually had more talent. I just can't believe no one talks about the elephant in the room, the play of the DBs. Those other teams also thrived in WRs blocking. Have to say This group is one of the worst at it. During Urban's years, if you didn't block, you didn't get on the field. And we had some pretty good running backs too. Talent can usually overcome lots of issues. This game scares me a lot.
Our DBs have been a disappointment since day one. Read an interesting stat today, not one single corner has an interception this year. I'm not talking about safeties, I'm talking about corners. If we can't match up back there, it's going to be a long day. The only hope is too outscore them. Which we didn't do against Michigan.
