The best college coaches are making around $10m a year.  Please excuse me if I'm not sympathetic to how many hours they work a week. Assistant coaches are earning over $1m per year.

It's no different than a high stress job on Wall Street and many other professions.  You can retire early if you wish.  Make this kind of money, set for life.  Also, in many careers you'll work excessive hours, and never see this level of compensation.

No one's feeling sorry for the CFB coach.  Woe is me, they have to work a lot.

No one should have foolish pride. Go to UM and hand the ball off 40 times a game or go to OSU and pass 40 times a game and get drafted in the 1st round. Easy choice if you are a qb, but we shall see.

Could care less about draft picks.  Beating that team is more important than draft picks. John Cooper was a king at getting guys drafted, but couldn't beat that team to save his life.

BEAT TTUN!!

Jim is in hot water RN lol

He's not.  He told his AD and the NCAA to kiss his ass.  With the full support of the University President. (see article below).

Amazing how much goodwill winning that last game in November can buy you.

Problem is Holtmann is not a great recruiter.  Basketball recruiting at Ohio State is a tough sell. Come to Ohio State where you’ll always be in the football teams shadow.  Also, most NIL money is going towards the football team.  Given how tough it is, our fan’s expectations are very high.  We’re not a basketball school and never will be.  Thad Matta  was the best recruiter we’ve ever seen.  We’ll probably never have that level of a recruiter again. Thad was the exception.

I'm not trying to be overly critical and nit-pick everything Ryan does.  With losing 3-starters on the OL, would've been nice to land a kid in the portal who's a for sure starter.   A kid who can come into the program and take a starting spot on day 1.

This kid will compete for spot. I guess the added competition will make the room better.

A&M's #1 class that was paid for was all Freshman this year.  Give it another year or two.

Oregon's 2022 recruiting class was ranked #13. Their 2023 class was #12.  Their classes aren't even top 5.  Obviously their not spending too much at this point.

I fully expect the defense to play well against inferior teams. .  But can they make stops and get off the field against Michigan?  Can they do it in the biggest game? I have serious doubts.  Harbaugh will scheme Day/Knowles up once again.  Have them falling over their feet.

'm not seeing too much of a difference. OSU will still be a top 5 destination. We have our own NIL collectives. There is always the chance of a last minute flip for or against. I'd rather not have the guy chasing the money. Give me a 3-4 star with a chip on his shoulder

All the 5-stars, i.e. best recruits in the nation will want cash for commitment.  If you want to win a natty, 5-stars are essential.  So what do we do here?  Even high rated 4 stars will want cash.  if we're going to build classes on lower rated 4-stars and 3-stars, then we need to be okay not competing for natty's.

When in Rome...

By all accounts the Brotherhood is real and very much family. If that's really what he's looking for, this bodes well for the Bucks.

Don't be naive and kid yourself.  He's looking for bags of NIL cash. Gone are the days of commitments based on the brotherhood.  Or players committing because they grew up fans of a school.  Whoever is the highest bidder, that's where he'll end up.

He's a good coach.  He's flipped the rivalry and is smacking Ryan Day around every chance he gets.

I remember when Harbaugh was at Stanford, he'd give Pete Carrol's uber talented USC teams loaded with 5-star recruits fits.  He'd beat them often with inferior talent.  Then he took a team to the super bowl.  Yeah, he has experience and is a good coach.  As much as it pains me to admit this.

Downvote the truth away!   Go for it!

Good.

Go Buckeyes.

Why on earth would this be good?  Harbaugh is a better coach than Ryan Day.   He's proven that.  He has far more experience and it shows.  The guys been a winner everywhere he's been. Harbaugh has flipped the rivalry now.  We were the kings of the B1G for many years, not any more.  Nothing good about him staying.   He'll continue to smack Day for as long as he's there.

Ugh, it pains me to give Harbaugh/Michigan compliments.  Puke.  But it's true.

Sorry but if Ohio State is your “dream” school you would have committed on the spot. Don’t buy it.

In this new era of NIL, there little incentive to commit on the spot.   Recruits are going with the highest bidder.  Certainly they'll entertain all offers.  A commitment is now a business decision, not an emotional one.  A school may be a "dream school", but if they don't pony up the cash it's not happening.

I've said this many times.  We have a first time head coach learning on the job. Mistakes will be part of the learning process.

I'm not trying to bad mouth Ryan.  There will be growing pains for anyone learning to do a job for the first time.

It sucks for CJ.  We had some of the worst defenses we've ever had on CJ's watch.  The losses weren't his fault. Having said that, I do think CJ is a soft kid.  He's not inherently a tough.  It's clear he didn't want to take hits.  He's a self preservation type of guy.   Unfortunately because of the losses to Michigan he won't have much of a legacy here.

In all honesty, Lathan's not very good.  The Michigan and Georgia games were atrocious.   Just because he's returning I'm hoping he's not a guaranteed starter.  The secondary was really bad, and Lathan's a big part of that.

Comment 15 Jan 2023

Whatever CJ decides, it's a bit narcissist of him to take this long to decide.  Make a decision and move on.  No need to be a drama queen and drag this out.   He's already made up his mind.

I hate losing to UM also. but losing to UM is irrelevant. We could have won the natty last year with that team

If you think losing to UM is irrelevant you literally know nothing about Ohio State football.  Yeah, the greatest rivalry in all of sport is irrelevant.  Should be nominated for dumbest post of the year.

Personally, I think we're chasing 5-stars all over the country, most of whom, we have zero chance at.  I'd like to see us take more 3-star Ohio kids.  Those diamond in the rough Ohio kids Tressel was a master at identifying.  There's some dogs in those 3-star Ohio kids.  Just need to find the right one's.   They're  not prima donna's who will demand bags of cash for a commitment. Just tough gritty Ohio boys who grew up loving Ohio State.  More of these kids please!

Just save your "how are we ever going to win a natty argument". We need to beat Michigan first.  We can't even do that.

Hopefully the defense doesn't leak like a sieve next year.  Oh, and that's Ryan Day's defense.
