The biggest issue with Schwartz's scheme is he needs a good to elite defensive front in order to make it work (and he had that in Philly during their SB year with guys like Fletcher Cox, Derek Barnett, and Brandon Graham up front). Outside of Garrett right now the Browns don't have that (especially with Clowney almost certainly being gone and their DTs not being good). Their strength in the defense is the secondary (specifically at corner).

Grew up watching the John Cooper Buckeyes so needless to say all of these recent wins over scUM have been quite refreshing.

If he plays like he did at RT in his one start there against IU last season we're going to be in good shape there as long as he stays healthy. LT is where the major question marks are right now.
LA metropolitan area is just over 12 million people and supports two teams.
Support is loosely defined. I don't know if you've been to LA recently but very few people there actually support the Chargers (and many of those that do were SD transplants who followed the team to LA). There was never any good reason for the Chargers to go to LA other than Dean Spanos throwing a major bitch fit about the city of San Diego refusing to build him a new stadium. Also the idea of adding a third team in LA was a joke more than anything. The NFL has a ridiculous obsession with the LA market (despite many people there not really giving a damn about NFL football). They've never given much of a damn about the Ohio markets (not since the Move anyways). They would've been perfectly fine with Cleveland not having a team at all after the Move. The Browns were only brought back as part of the settlement for the city of Cleveland's lawsuit against the NFL and Art Modell.
LJ is at a point in his career where if his age is starting to affect his ability to coach effectively then he needs to hang it up (though Ohio State will never force him to do that against his will obviously). And I'd argue to a certain extent it is. Player development on the D-line has not been as good here since Chase Young left. Harrison never developed into the player he was hyped to be when we recruited him and the D-line the last couple of years has had a bad tendency to get pushed around at the los against better teams (and they haven't done a great job of recruiting the interior D-line). It's a far cry now from where it was during the Bosa and Chase Young eras.
And now that deal has evidently "fallen through" and he looking to sue Florida.
That deal fell through because Florida was dishonest with him about it. As far as I'm concerned the more that kind of stuff happens with the southern schools the better. It means that even their NIL pool has limitations. The best thing we can hope for if Ohio State is too stubborn to adapt to NIL is for other schools to bungle their upfront NIL promises to recruits so badly like Florida did that the NCAA has no choice but to get involved and start actually regulating that.
IIRC didn't Justin Zwick play for them for awhile after his career at Ohio State ended? I seem to remember he had a brief spell in the Arena League after college.
Columbus Destroyers has a nice ring to it (even though that's been used before by the Arena League team that was in Columbus for awhile).
Nope. Ohio State is by far the biggest football attraction in town and has a major cult following that's arguably bigger and more passionate than many NFL fanbases. No pro team would be able to compete with that. Not to mention there are already two NFL teams in Ohio and I HIGHLY doubt the NFL has any interest in placing a third in a smaller market like Columbus when they can just place a third team in LA or give cities like San Diego, Orlando, Toronto, or St. Louis a team. The NFL never wanted the Browns to return to Cleveland (hence them crippling the Browns' expansion draft out of spite when they returned in '99) and they weren't happy with Paul Brown starting up the Bengals in Cincinnati either. I can't imagine any scenario where they'd be interested in placing a team in Columbus. Ohio in general is a completely expendable market to them (despite the game essentially being invented here and the first ever NFL game being played in Dayton).
If the likes of Iowa and Northwestern have better NIL than we do every single fucking person involved with this program needs to answer for that and explain it. That's completely unacceptable for a program like Ohio State with all the resources they have at their disposal. If they truly value how much revenue this program brings into athletics (which they absolutely do) they'll get their damn shit together in regards to NIL. Stop trying to be fucking compliant with the NCAA when nobody else is. It's not benefiting OSU in any way. I get not liking the idea of paying $10 million in cash up front to a HS junior or senior who has yet to play a down of college ball for you (especially if that hyped player turns out to be the next D.J. Uiagalelei). Trust me, I don't care much for that either but that's the reality of recruiting now. If programs like NW and Iowa (which are content with being mid-major level and have been for years) are more willing to play ball with that than Ohio State is (with all the resources at their disposal) that's completely unacceptable.
I love LJ but everyone knows that he's nearing retirement. He's 70+ years old. You really think he has that much coaching left in him? Given all the recent failures we've had recruiting the D-line I think to a certain degree his uncertain longevity here is impacting that and the fact is we can't let it continue to impact us if we ever want to see the defense improve.
Steelers Browns is also a hate matchup
The Steelers/Browns rivalry was ruined by the Move. It's been completely one-sided and a shell of itself since then. The Steelers don't even view the Browns as their rivals anymore nowadays, just an annual doormat that they have to play twice a year.
Not as long as Jimmy Haslam owns the team, that's for sure.
Maybe actually make a fucking Super Bowl before making a dumbass comment like this. Or better yet start by winning the division. Or start by NOT paying $230 million fully guaranteed to a serial sex offender.
Considering McCord has an extra year in the system if Brown overtakes him for the job by spring I think definitely is a sign of good things to come for Devin.
I would be much more worried if we were opening the season at Notre Dame. Thankfully that's not the case.
Bosa's incident showcased how little control Brandon Staley has over that locker room (seeing Bosa chuck his helmet only for Staley to hand it back to him so he could chuck it yet again says it all). If the Chargers continue on with him as their HC next year they're in trouble.
He could always mark it as such (it's not that hard).
If they end up choosing him as the starter that's a problem and doesn't bode well for next season. The other guys will have had to spectacularly flame out for that to happen.
Because right now they only have two scholarship QBs on the team (since Kienholz is not here yet) and they need the depth. He's not going to be a factor in the QB competition. That will be strictly between Brown and McCord.
More like the next Chugunov. Cardale had far more upside as a player than this kid does.
This might be the dumbest comment I've ever seen. Why are people here actually dense enough to think that we're bringing this guy here to start? Good God. He's here for depth and depth only. He falls into the Chris Chugunov mold of veteran presence in the QB room with starting experience.
Not true. We had four in 2021 as well (Stroud, McCord, Miller, and Ewers).
We've lost 5 scholarship guys to the portal (Teradja Mitchell, Jantzen Dunn, Jaylen Johnson, JK Johnson, and Javontae Jean-Baptiste), we have a number of guys declaring for the draft and/or graduating/moving on (Stroud, Cage, Vincent, ZH, Hickman, McCalister, JSN, Rossi, Paris, Dawand, Wypler, Babb), and a number of other guys whose futures here are very up in the air (Josh Proctor, Tyler Friday, Jaden McKenzie, Palaie Gaoteote, potentially Gee Scott, Jayden Ballard, and Evan Pryor). Not to mention we have 23 recruits coming in with the 2023 class and if McCord loses the QB competition he's likely headed for the portal as well. I don't think being over the scholarship limit is going to be much of an issue.
Right now we only have two scholarship QBs on the team until Kienholz arrives (and he won't be here until the summer). Day has always preferred to have four.
