Probably the most important player on the roster next year other than the quarterbacks, in the sense that his success or failure will decide the season

I’m more concerned about Michigan and Penn State. If we lose to Notre Dame, I will be incredibly disappointed. We’re a top 3 program in the nation. Exactly the type of matchup Notre Dame basically hasn’t been able to win for the last 25 years. They finally found a good quarterback, but their receiver corps is mehhhhh
It’s just frustrating that we’ve seen this o line predicament imminently coming for 2 years now, and yet here we are with no sure answers
Curious to hear what the real reason behind Raiola leaving us at the altar for Georgia is by the plugged in insiders. Has Birm spoken about this yet?
A starting safety is better than a second string corner. JK had potential, but nobody was pencilling him in to start next season. This is a worthy trade off
I think the winner of Brown/McCord will be awesome. All our skill talent returns. Most of the defense returns. The only thing I simply can’t rationalize being good is offensive tackle. How in the hell are we supposed to replace Paris and Dawand? I simply don’t see any answers there
Some of these mega donors are billionaires. Spending a million here or there for a few choice 5 stars is not as unsustainable as you might think
Those programs would have imploded anyways, not because of NIL. Fisher and Cristobal are terrible offensive coaches
I guess it doesn’t matter, but I’m curious if this is an opt out situation or the injury is still preventing him from playing at a high level
I don’t buy the cultural issues argument at all. Georgia seems to be doing just fine. The reality is current recruits have options that current upperclassmen didn’t have a couple years ago. Thats just life, and they’ll have to accept it. And it’s not like our current players aren’t getting paid. Nearly every starter last summer was given a brand new car, and god only knows how much else. I don’t think it’s going to destroy the locker room to give money to Damon Wilson and Sampson Okunlola
OSU better change it’s NIL stance then. It’s not against the rules. There’s nothing immoral about it. It doesn’t make us righteous or special to be different than how the SEC operates. It’s just stubborn, because we could pay as much as anyone
I wouldn’t drag him for opting out because that’s immature, but I wouldn’t sit here and praise him for his great business decision either. It is absolutely unprecedented for a player to opt out of playing in the playoffs. He would be the first. If he is actually leaning towards not playing, I don’t see why we couldn’t give him an extra NIL package to convince him to play 1-2 games
We’ve had some devastating decommits in recent years. Bijan, Clark Phillips, Jordan Battle, the two elite corners from last year, and so on. I’m feeling kinda meh on this one. I’m sure he’s a fine player, but we aren’t losing a 5 star either
Maybe in terms of legacy Troy (and possibly Stroud in a couple months from now) will have the best legacy argument, but in a vacuum I absolutely think Justin Fields is the most talented quarterback Ohio State has ever had. If I had to pick a Buckeye quarterback to go play Georgia tomorrow, I without hesitation would pick Fields
Not great news on the Notre Dame 247 board today. Tom Loy expects Keeley to go to Alabama still. Loy is a very good insider when making picks for any school other than Notre Dame
Where do you guys think this class will ultimately finish? My guess is we pass LSU and ND, and finish 3rd behind Alabama and Georgia
If we we up not getting the Bama 5 stars, I’d rather they stay put than go to Georgia. I hate Georgia more than Bama
I think losing to Michigan would be a horrible blow in the sense we would lose a golden opportunity to seriously compete for a Championship with such a talented roster, but I don’t think it hurts recruiting all that much. Certainly won’t help with a key guy or two down the stretch like Wilson and Downs, but things won’t fall apart and we won’t stop becoming a perennial top 5 recruiting program because of a one loss season
At some point sooner or later OSU will have to deal with NIL personnel issues too. But at some point the players are gonna have to learn to get over there being a pay disparity on each team too. Because these highly ranked guys are basically going to NFL training academies, and players don’t all get paid the same in the NFL either.
Not sure if there’s a way to view comment history, but I’ve been sounding the alarm on tackle recruiting for a few months now
This take is just as much about his recruiting too
Think we can start rolling back all the preemptive praise Justin Frye has been getting. Can’t recruit a single blue chip offensive lineman outside the state of Ohio off the field, and can’t coach his 5 star guys to get a push on 3rd and 1 on the field
Anna Hickey on Clemson247 thinks it will be OSU for McDonald
Maybe you’re just talking about the most realistic guys, but Sampson Okunlola would be the most important remaining get and it’s not even a tiny bit close
Jumbo’s in year 5, so no reason to reserve judgement on that program. It’s not like they’re losing multiple first rounders to the draft every year
