Lmao, user name checks out.
Yep, and the idiots will still say "Hurrr Ohio State QBs always fail in the NFL, Hurrr"
Gee, I wonder why that is?
If CJ falls to #9 and JSN falls to #31, I will eat a shoe.
This is looking so similar to the end of the Matta era. The obvious difference is that Matta made deep tournament runs and won multiple Big Ten titles. Holtmann's only accomplishments are wasting elite talents like Branham, Liddel and Washington, and losing a Big Ten tournament championship game. After 6 years, that's nowhere close to good enough.
Unless this team wins ten games in a row, there is ZERO chance at a tournament berth. What's our best win? Rutgers? A blown double digit lead against UNC? Holtmann isn't the guy and it's time to move on. Six years in and we've never even gotten within shouting distance of a Sweet 16 or a B1G title. This should not be acceptable at Ohio State, especially given Holtmann's alleged recruiting prowess.
6 years and what do we have to show for it? Fucking depressing.
Really, really ugly? We already lost to Minnesota and Nebraska, the two worst teams in the B1G, on our 5 game L streak. "Really ugly" came and went last week lol. This is entering "absolute train wreck" territory.
Fire Chris Holtmann into the damn sun. This is getting beyond ridiculous.
At least we are making our free throws, I guess?
5-25 shooting. LMAO what the actual hell.
*I* need a shot and a cigarette. At least then this would be mildly enjoyable. This is brutal.
This has to be our worst team in 10 years, right?
We are shooting 22% from the field right now. 22%. Holy hell.
At least we won't have to worry about getting clowned in the tournament this year?
Right, but the clear hole in that argument is that they've won 3 (might even be 4, not sure) titles during that same timeframe. I'd be satisfied with winning 1 out of 4 or even 5 opportunities, but we've literally won one title since 2013 when presented nine good to outstanding opportunities to win a national championship. I'm happy that we're winning a lot of game, but that is a pretty abysmal conversion rate and just speaks to our inability to take that final step when it counts.
You're not wrong, we do have it pretty good compared to the Michigan States, Tennessees and Oregons of the world. That said, we aren't really peers of those schools and are instead in the top 5 or so all-time. The part that frustrates me is the number of times that we've been THIS CLOSE to a title, but just couldn't close the deal. Either we've got an elite offense and a horrible defense (2013, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022) or an elite defense but horrible offense (2015, 2016). The one year we had both elite units was 2019 and that was of course the year we got railroaded by horrible SEC officials. But I'd also argue that we shouldn't have been in position to get screwed by them, given our repeated red zone failures against Clemson. Think about that: we've had 9 good opportunities (3 or 4 of which were EXTREMELY GOOD) to win championships since 2013 and we've literally gotten it done one time. Sure, it's great that we're in that conversation every year, but a 1-8 record (figuratively speaking) is abysmal. If we'd have won even one more title in that stretch, it totally changes the conversation. We simply haven't been able to close the deal for one reason or another and that's why it gets so frustrating.
So great to see us finally take that "step forward" under Holtmann!
So what you're saying is that, aside from coaching and playing, we're in pretty good shape? :P
It's a shame that CJ's legacy is "defined" by massive failures on defense for his two years as a starter. I'll go to my grave saying that he didn't cost us either of the Michigan games. Had he received more support around him, he'd undoubtedly be one of the best ever. Talent wise, sure, he's incredible and I love how he represented Ohio State. But when the dust settles, he'll probably be remembered in a similar way as someone like Dan Marino: a staggering talent who put up incredible stats but who never won a championship (or even a rough equivalent at Ohio State, beating TTUN).
I am firmly in the "prove it" camp until Knowles and the D shows otherwise. I'm tired of defensive failures costing us championships.
No tournament this year. Unacceptable given all the "Holtmann is such a great recruiter" stuff we've been hearing for the last couple years. Time for Chris to go. Hate to say it, but the direction of the program is not good and he hasn't accomplished enough in six years to warrant staying on.
Just look at the difference between Rutgers and Ohio State player's engagement and body language. The players seem checked out and uninterested. And who can blame them?
Holtmann drew up the "good plays" again, I see.
Just so done with this season and this staff.
Damn, Key just can't finish today.
