Definitely Hartline.  As much as 11W forum members think nobody should “learn on the job” at Ohio State Hartline will be and deserves to be the guy calling plays.

I agree the safeties were a liability all season and last night.  The question is why?  If Ransom and Hickman are really NFL ready and McCallister was a 1st team all conference last year for the other OSU it suggests the problem is not talent (which is what I was responding to).  The talent is there but the guys aren't making plays, are in the wrong spot, or the scheme is bad.  It appears that our DB's are constantly chasing the other teams' receivers on longer routes and Never turn to look for the ball.  And even when there is safety help they don't seem to be there.

Recruiting misses suggest the talent is t there.  I disagree.
The corners actually played pretty well last night after a subpar season.  This could be related to learning new scheme/technique, injury or talent issue.  Ransom and Hickman are supposedly NFL ready and Mccallister was all conference in the Big 12 last year in Knowles’ defense.  So no talent issues with the safeties.  Having said that McCallister did not play well last night or against Xichigan.  There’s your backfield.
Tommy is basically an all American and Steele gets lost occasionally still but makes up for it with athleticism.
Then there is the defensive line rotation.  To me this is the problem.  We actually go too deep here.  Best players can’t get into the rhythm of the game.  Pass rush was much better this year but the interior line failed in the run game all year and last night.  NFL teams do little rotation so your studs should be able to go most of the game.

HIPAA is wildly misunderstood by just about everybody.  HIPAA only applies to medical providers who are billing insurance companies for providing medical services.  The insurance company has some requirements as well.  A football coach is not a medical provider and has no requirement under HIPAA to protect anybody's personal medical information.  The Ohio State University may have a separate policy that requires non-HIPAA trained people to treat such information as confidential but it does not fall under HIPAA.  But in sports basic injury reports are very normal and Ryan Day tends to go overboard to say as little as possible.  Transparency would be better for all.

People need to cool there heels on Haden a bit.  He filled in very nicely against a horrible defense and looked great.  All we have is a snapshot.  There is not a large enough body of work to really know and we have been comparing him to 2 guys that are severely banged up.

How does saying Cj is soft and doesn’t play like a warrior mean McCord or Brown should play?  The posts I’ve read discussing who should play between those 2 were related to next year or non-playoff bowl game.  We all know CJ is the guy but he needs take what he is given on the ground and stop throwing off his back foot when there is pressure.

IF we get in I want Xichigan right away.  Double or nothing as I used to say as a kid.  Redemption time or we find out that Ryan Day in fact can't beat them in which case he has to go.  I do not want to wait 12 months for this game to happen again.

Go Utah!

Ohio State has been ranked higher than TCU all season.  The Buckeyes lose to now #2 Xichigan.  TCU loses a week later to Kansas St.  Why is there even a debate here.  Ohio State jumps TCU if they lose regardless of the score.  Ohio State has better wins and the committee has thought so all along.  Forget the score of last weeks game.  The committee is fully aware of Georgia beating Alabama after losing to them by a similar score as The Game.  If USC loses they have 2 losses.  The conversation of keeping them ahead of the Buckeyes would last about 2 seconds.

Coomb's best recruiting at UC may be from the transfer portal.  Those former 4/5 start kids that don't start as freshmen and enter the portal looking for immediate playing time.  UC has now made the playoffs, are headed to the Big 12 and have a track record of putting guys in the NFL.

Yet he continued to get the ball while Miyan Williams got 2-3 carries per game.  I think Henderson will be fine but somebody sure does not want Miyan to get many carries.  I just hope he sticks it out and keeps playing hard vs. transferring somewhere to be a feature back.

Don't put lack of reps on Coombs.  The position coaches determine who plays.  DC is responsible for the game plan, play calling and adjustments.  DC does not make independent decisions of who is on the field.

I think there is more to it than pass protection.  I haven't seen Miyan miss very many blocks and he was trying to block downfield on several of the long plays last night.  He was going 100% on every play.   Maybe he has ball security issues in practice.  We will never know what's really going on there.  I know this, you need a run game and we have a 1-2 punch that doesn't get used effectively.

Gutsy performance by the defense in the second half.  Stroud and JSN are absolute studs.  Stover was somewhat inconsistent but also made some very nice plays.  I saw enough good from him to believe that he is a linebacker.  Thought Miyan Williams would get more carries there for a minute.  At least the few carries he got lit a fire under Henderson.  The linebackers played the run much better in the 2nd half but boy they need some work understanding where to be in the pass game.  It will be interesting to see how many coaching changes take place in the next few days/weeks.

Wilson and Olave not playing will hurt but the others not near as much.  I think the O line is better with Matthew Jones playing guard and we already know Munford is a great tackle.  On the D line Garrett being out hurts but honestly I think there is too much rotation on the line and I am excited to see the freshmen play more minutes.  I'm excited to see Stover play LB also but I have a feeling that all of the talk about him being ready to play is smokescreen and he may not play at all.  And can we please give the ball to Miyan Williams more than 3 times today.
