Has Holtmann ever watched his own team play on TV? I ask, because I can't sit through yet another lackluster performance with no adjustments, terrible decisions and sloppy play. I'd rather get a root canal.

How can someone who is supposed to be a decent coach keep putting up the same mediocre product year after year? He keeps recruiting better players that never develop.

I've moved on. I hope OSU does the same.

Stroud's consistent accuracy is like no other Buckeye QB before him. If I recall, the majority of his interceptions were initially tipped by his receivers, or if they broke the wrong way on a route. He rarely made any bad decisions.

I only wish we had seen more of Peach Bowl Stroud with that "put the team on my back" attitude. It was amazing to watch. I can't wait to see him in the NFL.

Fields was always that way because he had to do it all on his own in high school. Sometimes he tried to do too much on his own and that led to some negative plays. He's an exciting, powerful, 2-way QB and I wish him success.

I remember Shawn Springs tripping against Michigan in 1996 with the same result. Knowles is a genius if the play works and an idiot if it doesn't. In my opinion, the defense did play a lot better than what they showed against Michigan. Georgia's Brock Bowers was held to 64 yards and 0 TDs. As far as O-line performance, who predicted Jalen Carter would have 1 tackle?

It really did come down to a handful of plays that made the difference. Now begins the long wait until the 2023 season and what it has in store for us.

I have been consistent in my recognition of Stroud as the most accurate passer in OSU history. This was on full display in the Peach Bowl, where a number of his passes were drops (including 2 by Harrison before the play he got targeted  defended against). Stroud just doesn't throw the ball into bad positions very often. Most of his interceptions all season long were tipped by either his receivers or the defensive line. The O-line gave him a lot of time to throw, and his legs were equally effective at keeping plays and drives alive. I've been looking for post-game scouting analysis beyond his QB rating. I am certain he opened a lot of eyes with his exceptional play against a very good team.

I agree that I wish Day had allowed full use of all of the weapons on this year's team. For whatever reason, and especially against Michigan, we tried using unproven players in order to be unexpected. Georgia knew full well what we were going to do and they had no ability to stop it. Let that be the biggest lesson we learn from the 2022 season.

I will miss Stroud as I have no expectation he returns for another season. I also have a lot of faith in Next Man Up and the talent we have waiting in the wings. I look forward to watching him on Sundays and wish him the success he deserves.

The GIF with Stover in the end zone was not a case of him dropping the ball. It was Exhibit A of excellent defensive coverage making a play on the ball and knocking it out of his hands instead of crashing into him and getting flagged for pass interference.

Not targeting MHJ more in the red zone is inexcusable.

I saw that Gus Johnson will argue that McCarthy deserves to be in the Heisman conversation. I disagree. McCarthy is average at best in throwing the ball, and perhaps above average in running the ball.

The reason I feel our poor secondary lost us the game is because any competent (or even halfway-competent) CB/DB/S should have turned those into interceptions instead of big completions. We have the ball, they don't score. It also allowed McCarthy to build some confidence. Did you notice how tight Michigan's coverage was on our receivers? Yes, there were a few drops of well-thrown balls from Stroud, but a fair amount of them were incompletions because the coverage men made excellent plays. The rest of the defense was more than adequate (30% better, at least...)

Yes, the bad penalties (holding, false start, etc.) didn't help, nor did the STUPID penalties by Stover or Scott Jr., but those by themselves didn't lose the game for us.

Yes, the boneheaded play calling hurt us. Bubble screens and RB pitches to the outside didn't work, same as it's been all season. I'd be surprised if Hayden stays since we somehow thought the 5th? string LB/RB was a better option. (Not to take anything away from Trayanum's solid performance)

I still think Stroud is the best passer OSU has ever had, but you never saw him fired up or willing to give everything to come out with a win. There were more than a few times with 10-20 yards of wide-open turf in front of him and he chose not to run. Definitely lacking in leadership compared to others we've had with less arm talent. In the end though, he will be remembered as not reaching his goals.

I'm most interested to see how Day plans to fix this.

JJ McCarthy’s stock is up? I guess so with the W, but dammit, Malik Hooker could have renewed his plates at the DMV and still been able to intercept his floating, underthrown balls. Secondary was garbage and hasn’t improved in a few years. Knowles deserves criticism for trusting them so much. They lost us the game more than anything else.

Comment 27 Nov 2022

Fix. The. Damn. Secondary. (no improvement in years)

Change Puff back into Tough.

Sacrifice everything for the team to win instead of playing not to lose. (Stroud not running with 20 yards of open turf in front of him) (Day's inexcusable play calling and predictability)

Penalties = lack of focus and discipline

Comment 06 Nov 2022

Many of William's stuffed runs were when the play was stretched laterally. Most of his successful runs were zone reads up the middle.

I wonder how much of the game plan was ultra-conservative, given that we were expected to just show up and win. The team seemed really lethargic and lacked focus. Lots of dropped passes, missed tackles, missed blocking assignments, etc.

I know it's human nature to do as little as possible sometimes, but it's concerning when you see the same things not being corrected.

Winter is forecast to arrive in mid-November this year. The lack of a power run game could kill our chances if we cannot throw the ball again.

The ND defense was excellent. They blanketed our receivers and tackled them immediately. They really didn't give a lot to work with. Despite that, Stroud did a fantastic job of taking what was given, throwing the ball to places where only our receivers could catch it, and not making crucial mistakes. That speaks to how much he has developed since last year.

Great win against a worthy top 5 opponent - not at all like Oregon's obvious overranking.

With an improved defense to practice against and correct his mistakes before the season starts, my prediction is that CJ Stroud will set the all-time season QB Pass Completion Percentage Record that is currently held by Mac Jones in 2020 at 77.4%

The way he picked apart Utah in the Rose Bowl was a good indicator of what he is capable of. Give him an improved OL to allow him time to throw (and receivers to get open).

Dare I say 80% might be approachable?

Comment 13 Aug 2022

Larry Johnson is clearly an elite DL coach, but the results of the past couple of years have been disappointing because of the overall defensive scheme where we really didn't blitz much, and just weren't aggressive in any meaningful way.

I absolutely love Knowles' philosophy of shock and awe to create confusion and disruption. I think the on-field results will be striking in comparison.

I expect many more sacks, TFLs, interceptions and fumbles than in recent history.

I think we win our next National Championship this year.

I think we lose fewer top recruits to other teams going forward and become the new gold standard.

I can't wait for the season to start!

Comment 11 Aug 2022

This warms my heart.

The fact that the defense will be much better this year (it was already obvious in the simplified Spring Game) will pay huge dividends in the development of the offense and their ability to take what opposing defenses are giving up. The fact that Stroud showed so much development last year bodes extremely well given a full off-season of development and making mistakes in practice instead of on the field.

2022 will be a fantastic season, capped by another National Championship!

That will fuel continued recruiting success, which will breed more titles.

It's a VERY good time to be a Buckeye fan!

Comment 29 Jul 2022

Is an 80% completion rate good? I think he might exceed that if the OL gets nasty and the running game gets more consistent. A balanced offense will allow Stroud to distribute the ball to any of our playmakers at will. Cover 1 guy and there are 2 or 3 more open. I'm thinking 5000 yards and 50 TDs with single-digit interceptions.

Day will get his first National Championship this year. First of many!
