Dee Miller was legit. Had more yards than Boston that year. Also had Lumpkin as TE. Impressive stats indeed for Mr. Boston.

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
The targeting call was definitely shit, but the overturning of the scoop and score is still the most egregious call I can ever remember seeing. Especially when you see some of the plays ruled "catches" that occurred during the regular season in the SEC. Clemson got virtually every judgment call in that game also, though the officials on the field weren't obvious about it. The only penalties that I remember being called against Clemson were procedural.
There just should not be any doubt about the integrity of the playoffs, and allowing conferences involved to officiate leaves open the possibility of malfeasance. Heck, even if it's not intentional, everyone loves their own horse. Bias can appear without intent. It's a no-brainer and shouldn't be allowed.
It is just baffling that conferences with participants are allowed to referee games for other conferences' teams. How does no one involved in the CFP see the conflict of interest here? I will go to my death bed convinced the SEC chose LSU's opponent for the 2019 title game.
They should ask FCS refs to officiate.
Yeah, mediocre may be too much credit.
I really don't understand why everyone is so high on it. I didn't get a chance to go before it became popular, maybe it was better back in the day.
Yep. It's about 1/3 the distance from Athens to Atlanta as Columbus to Indianapolis. Just a tick over an hours drive.
Don't forget getting mediocre food at The Varsity!
All I know is UM shouldn't be allowed to have nice things. Boooo UM!
I take back any sentiment I ever might have had that it would be fun for them to be good when we play them. I want them to lose every game. Always and forever.
Nope. I understand it's been a staple of the offense for a few years, but good coaches adjust their schemas to adapt to their personnel. Our receivers and TEs this year are decidedly not as good at blocking. That was readily apparent by mid season. Also, opponents just attacked it relentlessly, not wanting to get beat on the easy, quick play.
So, so, so disappointing.
We all should have seen this coming. When someone tells you who they are, believe them. The repeated stubborn insistence on running outside zone / stretch and WR screens regardless of the lack of success combined with very little opponent based game planning was a big, bold, bright red flag all season long.
Recipe for success right there.....
Not sure I want a receive who spells his name with Trash.
This man needs a minimum of 10-12 targets every game he is at OSU.
Disagree about the talent level differential. OSU issued a play by play beat down the entire first half. It was entirely mindset and discipline (OSU weak and lacking, UM strong and regimented) that kept UM in the game and made doubters of OSU players in the second half. The real issue here appears to be that Day has assumed toughness to be a largely physical thing and has largely not instilled mental fortitude in his players to overcome when things don't go their way.
100%. They gave us numbers in the box all game, but we repeatedly went back to the east west plays. Infuriating. Could have blown that team out. Instead, we lost in the most embarrassing fashion possible. That was objectively the worst 1/2 of football I have ever witnessed from an OSU team.
OSU dominates pillar to post.
After the game, Day says "When you're born on third, you just have to steal home".
One thing you are missing here is that with the extra conference game, just by default, 1/2 the teams in the conference get an assured L. For the SEC, this is mostly replaced by a non P5 or FCS school. Yes, all B1G teams don't schedule schedule a tough opponent, but they also aren't almost all scheduling at least one free win every year. This helps to increase the general opinion of the conference because, whether we like it or not, what people really pay attention to is W/L record until you start really scrutinizing the top teams.
Also, there would be a lot more Georgia vs. Alabama or Georgia vs. LSU type games. UGA didn't play any of the top 3 teams in the West this year. The frequency that the top teams in the SEC West and East play each other is laughable.
The ACC does this also. The issue for them is they are mostly so bad that they can't take advantage of it like the SEC does with their top end teams. The ACC having 7 bids to the B1G's 6 is very telling to me.
SEC and ACC have figured it out.
Conferences with 8 game schedules (FYI, these also play the most non P5 and FCS games):
ACC - Playoff appearances - 7
SEC - Playoff appearances - 10
Total - 17
Conferences with 9 game schedules:
B1G - Playoff appearances - 6
Big XII - Playoff appearances - 4
Pac 12 - Playoff appearances - 2
Total - 12
Other appearances - ND (2) & Cincinnati
This is only going to continue to bolster appearances for the ACC and SEC. The B1G needs to go back to 8 games if they want the same number of participants as the SEC.
You think Day has forgiven Locksley for the Chase Young suspension? I see another beatdown coming.
I don't know.... zero yards per carry still sounds like a lot.
This game was my wife's introduction to Buckeye football. She had never watched a game, and being from Georgia, had zero interest in OSU. She's now a die hard fan.
I'd like to add that to my collection also! Nice!
... I would be a much richer man.
I'll draft the letter for us to Ryan Day, Ron. We've solved it! ;-)
IMO, there's certainly a place for the OZ/stretch plays, but it doesn't look like it should be the foundation of our run game.
