NIL happened and fans instantly became experts on how to handle it, while the coaches that actually have to handle it on a daily basis, barely understand it. OSU is surviving this pretty well so far and one day soon I’m confident they’ll be using it to their advantage.
I like seeing our own guys develop into good players. I’m glad cutler came on board to add to the competition at a couple spots. I think I’d rather see zen get a chance to play but if they bring another one to compete then so be it.
And in other news, Ohio weather is a tad unpredictable
Deion lost with a stacked team at a lower level. How’s he going to do more with less at Colorado? He’ll get some top DB’s for obvious reasons. Not impossible but nothing close to being a safe bet either.
For Davis it’s a battle of early playing time at ttun (their qb room is full of ?) and being developed but may have to stand in line an extra year or 2 at OSU. If not him then day will find another one.
I’m questioning it
Putting the best player at each individual spot may not be the best combination of players when looking at depth and how they work together. They will mix and match til it makes sense.
If you have to take away our best then take away their best or you’re just stacking the deck. Hey let’s take away the d line commits for A&M and see what their class looks like…..what’s the point
I agree. The cowboys use Micah parsons in a Jack role and he’s excelling. Hicks has that potential if used right I think. Sawyer is bigger and more limited but he’s definitely a nice fit at D end.
That’s what we say about other teams but if that was osu rankings it would be the cliff talk no doubt.
That’s my thinking. They want competition at every spot one way or another.
Potential to improve. Positional versatility. Experience. Willing to compete. Added bonus is he was a ttun fan but is now all buckeye! Love it!
He chose multiple schools based on higher amounts. He got what he gave: false promises
I think the coaches look at each spot and determine if there’s TWO guys on the roster ready to compete. If not then they look to the portal to find a second guy. I think James is fully ready to compete at center but they’d have to move jones there to have 2 guys. Now they can keep jones at guard and feel good while having 2 guys at center and feel good. Wypler leaving was unexpected I think. I think they are comfortable at right tackle with fryar and others. I think Michalski is ready to compete at left tackle but might be uneasy about who the 2nd guy is so that’s why they offered 4 portal tackles but none wanted to compete.
Short term gains for long term clusterfuckery. Let them enjoy this little run because that’s all it is.
So you think OSU would have lost to TCU?
Not that I simply dismiss your worries but there is a counterpoint. Saban is about to hire a new DC. Everyone at sec network says that he’ll hire a young guy with potential or a former assistant coach that’s been under him before, because any DC will just be running sabans defense and calling sabans plays. Saban gets the credit when they win and the DC gets the blame when they lose. He still keeps control regardless. His OC hires are experienced former OC’s or HC’s that will do their own thing with less control from saban because they only want that job if they get most of the control. I say all of this to point out that day couldn’t control Wilson if he gave him the keys to the offense because he had experience being in charge so he kept him at arms length. Day can let hartline put his stamp on the offense while still knowing at any time he can simply take more control if necessary. Day is doing it the saban way but it’s from an offensive perspective rather than a defensive one.
A team needing multiple guys to come in and start isn’t a good sign that your development is going well. Harbaugh is a coach that is essentially on a year to year basis so he wants to win quick because he might be in the NFL the next year. That’s why their recruiting sucks and they hit the portal hard. That’s not a goal to strive for. He’s building a bomb that will explode for the next coach.
Frye is seeing a lack of experience in the room. They bring in experience that will compete for starts. Simple as that.
Buckeye fans love Kevin Wilson and give him a ton of credit for his influence on the offense. You probably got downvoted because like too many fans, you created a competition where one didn’t need to be. It’s not day vs Wilson or hartline vs Wilson. It’s not one way is the right way and the other way is the wrong way. It’s the natural path of football coaches and their tree’s for one to move on while another is moving up and so on. Of course there will be differences but we won’t know what or why exactly because right now, we don’t know how much credit goes to each of these coaches for what we’ve seen so far. Did hartline have some input or no input? We don’t know. Did Wilson have 50%, 75% or 100% input? We don’t know. Will Frye have more input as run game coordinator or not? We don’t know. We all have guesses but none of us truly know. Btw, Wilson hired Steve spurrier jr. to call plays for him at Tulsa. Will he get the credit or will it go to Wilson? We don’t know that either.
My level of worry when it comes to Ryan day finding a quarterback is equal to snoop dogg or willie Nelson worrying about running out of smoke. We don’t know who it will be but you can be sure that it will be a good one.
Even with 3 safety spots they still have more young exciting options than spots. Imagine if there was only 2 spots. Linebacker is in good hands now with eich/chambers so I could see Knowles finding more rotation in those spots atleast early on to keep them fresh later, plus we have some young talent itching to get out there in hicks, etc. hartline will be fine in his new role but I expect to see a much bigger impact on defense in year 2.
Only buckeye fans could find a downside to having a heisman level qb.
Welcome newest buck!
