Smith needs to terminate Holtmann now. Cut your losses and put in Diebler as interim head coach. Buckeyes have nothing to lose at this point you still have to pay Holtmann his five years left on his contract (three year extension was a three million dollar epic failure by Gene Smith) but Holtmann gets less money this season after this termination. Buckeyes are the worst team in this conference.
@NWOBuckeye It all depends on what the OSU athletic department and the boosters are willing to spend on a top tier coach. Holtmann makes anywhere from 3.5 million to 4 million a year and what his current buyout is. An elite top tier basketball coach is going to draw anywhere from 7 to 10 million a year when I mean elite top tier I am talking an Izzo, Self, Wright. They aren't going to get these guys but they need to make sure their buyouts are pretty reasonable. You might try to convince Jay Wright and Chris Beard you could get at a reasonable rate. OSU has enough shrinks at that school he could get the appropriate counseling 7 days a week for his alcoholoism and anger issues. They could offer Sean Miller, everyone is buying players in this new NIL era so it's not a big deal now.
@Tcm1968 Holtmann deserves criticism for his lack of success. You are just mad the apologists can no longer defend Holtmann's poor coaching with their lame excuses over the years.
Holtmann could have won this game with 18 seconds left to spare with one timeout left at the end of regulation to call one last final play. He didn't use the timeout and the team choked in the end. Why do you have Sueing take three shots when he is seventh on the team shooting percentage at 27.9%. Key has a higher 3 point percentage at 30% which isn't great either.
New word for today Holtmann "Tip Drill" They don't know how to do in games
It depends on how you define "worst coach." Is "worst coach" defined as a slightly above record with no conference titles, Big Ten championships, lack of NCAA Tournament success like Holtmann or a coach who can at least win a conference title, some NCAA Tournament success and has had a very dismal seasons like Randy Ayers.
There have been so many bad B10 officials over the last 30years. Ed Hightower, TV Teddy Valentine, Bo Boroski, Jim Burr, John and Tim Higgins, Carstensen (Mr. Wisconsin), Sciorotto is an up and comer being a crappy ref and the list goes on an on for crappy refs in this conference.
Ayers was a bad coach and he had Williams players for the first few years but at least he reached a Sweet Sixteen and almost an Elite Eight during his tenure as coach. Holtmann will never get to a Sweet Sixteen as a coach here. The only reason he went to the Sweet Sixteen at Butler was due to the higher seeds losing and he played no competition to get there. Jim O'Brien went to the Final Four his second year with Randy's team with James "Scoonie" Penn.
